To ask how you use a fork?

Slight disagreement in Kakuna towers this evening. One of us is using our fork as a shovel, the other spearing food. It's jacket potato and salad.

Which one of us is a feral animal? How do you fork?

"Always spear. Never shovel. Can't stand bad table manners!!"

Even for things like rice or peas?

I was never brought up to only use the back of the fork.

I once went out for a curry with someone who ate a biriani with a knife and fork - using the knife to push the rice onto the back of her fork. She looked somewhat ridiculous. I have never seen anyone else eat a meal that doesn't require a knife to cut food like this.

Nickname... yes, for everything. I would eat the curry in the same way your friend did. My husband and his family shovel and it always looks wrong to me.

Shovelling and elbows out... makes me shudder and I'm not even posh!

Back of the fork is correct etiquette but I think shovel for some foods has be come acceptable just like elbows are OK on the table now. I'm a hybrid but at a naice do I would attempt to eat correctly even though eating peas would take 20 minutes...

As long as you have your mouth closed I don't care
