Aibu to ask what books you love, that others hate!

Inspired by another thread, are there any books that you have really enjoyed but that others hate?

I saw We need to talk about Kevin mentioned several times relating to people who can't stand it, whereas it's one of my favourite books of all time!

i like '1984' and 'brave new world' both dark and a bit depressing but strangely coming true in many respects.

Love 'Kevin' as well OP

Opposite way round for me but I hated 'Us' by David Nicholls yet others rave about it.

No idea why, I found it impossible to give even a tiny toss about any of the characters.

I really enjoyed the Twilight Saga books as harmless and enjoyable trash, but can no longer admit to it after people have been very forceful with thier opinions after the (admittedly awful) movies came out!

Witch, I loved the movies! .

I loved 'The Slap.' Everyone else loathes it!

I really enjoyed life after life, but a lot of people didn'the enjoy it.
On the other hand I hated the goldfinch and have only seen rave reviews.

On the other hand I absolutely detested 'a little life' with every fibre of my body. It was like limping a dreary marathon of misery. I had to keep going though.

Love Atonement, but everyone in my bookclub hated it/misread it so therefore missed a key plot point.

Other way around but I loathed Chocolat and Peaches for Monsieur le Cure. People at my book group loved them but I thought they were wet, predictable and pithy.

I also loved Kevin, and On Chesil Beach, which is likewise getting a slagging on the other thread!

I loved Life After Life. Passed it on to my parents who hated it

Liked Beyond Black.
Adored Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies.

I loved kevin, life after life and also a god in ruins which i think you need to read in conjunction with life after life as they are the same characters but from a different angle. My favourite is the lovely bones.

A Suitable Boy - love it and have read 3 times.

Gave up on Captain Corelli - tried twice and failed both times. I normally dislike books that are raved about by other. I managed to finish The Kite Runner as I kept thinking it would get better, but it didn't. I have also failed with most of the classics. Trawled through Pride and Prejudice and wondered what all the fuss was abouy.

I don't read tosh but can't seem to get on with the stuff that everyone else likes.

Brace yourselves... I a 36 year old woman with a serious job, LOVED the Hunger Games trilogy. I cried on the tube when Katniss volunteered to be Prim's tribute (not pregnant at the time). It was shit and I loved it.

So I can gripe about 'Kevin, Beyond Black, Concrete Island (in fact all Pynchon) and HHhH as much as I like, I can whinge about the interminable misery of the Grapes of Wrath, and the implausibility of Jane Eyre... pay no attention to my taste in books, it's obviously skewed.

I quite like Twilight too. Got me back into reading and we're books I read a lot when pregnant.

Wolf Hall, even with all the 'he, Cromwell' weirdness.

I read twilight & hunger games too as DD1 getting into reading them so had 'censoring' as an excuse. Admittedly loved hunger games.

Cannot emphasise what a brilliant book I am Pilgrim was. Have recommended it to everyone and no, don't know the author lol

I couldn't be arsed with Girl on the train. Plodded along and annoyed me yet everyone raves and now it's going to be a film.

I'm aware my taste may be shite

I hated Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro. Pretentious drivel. Most people seem to love it.

Loved Brooklyn by Colm Toibin but most people I know didn't like it.

I also like We Need To Talk About Kevin. Thought it was very clever.
