Castor, as in the boy's name.

My friend thinks it's pronounced like CasTOR

I think it's pronounced like CastER and that Caster,castor and Kaster are homophones.

I'm happy to be told I'm wrong and am being unreasonable but it's boggling my brain.

I'm having a baby in a couple of days had girls names sorted because that's what I was expecting turns out its a boy and Castor is on a very small short list

Castor= caster to me

If it's going to bother you then pick a more mainstream name as your friend won't be the last to pronounce it differently.

CastER. Castor oil is CastOR though (depending on region!) so how it's pronounced generally might depend on where you live. However, Castor Troy in Face/Off is def CastER.

I'm already confused, I found my socks in my handbag earlier!

I read it as Caster but now I look at it, I would pronounce it as Castor Oil. I have never heard of a human with this name before though.

Castor makes me picture a castor on the bottom of a wheely chair. Or caster sugar.

Fergus is nicer, I think. It depends on how it goes with surnames/middle names I suppose.

Honestly, I think you'll get constant mispronunciations, if that bothers you. 'Castor' looks like 'CAH-stuh' to me.

Castor and Pollux are names from mythology/astronomy. I wouldn't use them. It is a bit like saying that Methuselah is a name. It is a name of course, but not one standardly used in Britain. (Waits to be contradicted by someone who knows 3 of them).
