To think Rio has been shocking

pleasemothermay1 · 13/08/2016 09:21

There is hardly any one in the seats even the foot ball and brizallians love foot ball

The pools are green no one can say why I hear a rugby athlete got injured they got lost on route to the hospital in abulance 😳

There are issues with transport

The ioc have said this has been one of the most diffcult games in a long time

Even the opening was very poor I no they didn't have much money so why not just do a carnival instead they tried to copy ours though the ages sort of thing but not very well play to your strengths I think some samba and carival theam would have been awesome.

Also some govermnet staff have not been paid I fear that it's unlikely the para games will be much better
Contrast to London were there wasn't a ticket going begging even for the para games

I think it's all well and good allowing emerging countries to have this but they must be able to afford it and also show that the tickets will be pitched at a price of the avarge wage

amd also that the cost of the games is not at the expense of paying your govermnet staff there will be no legacy at least we have had the good sense to sell some of our ventunes I don't think there is any vunue sitting empty

They are saying that Rio is cursed. There have been so many injuries this year. A french gymnast snapped his shin doing the vault, a weightlifter dislocated his elbow, one male cyclist broke both clavicals, another broke his arm and a female cyclist fractured her back in three places. One of the Judo medalists got arrested for breaking into a hotel and getting into a fight after chasing a women who stole his phone, several of the athletes, journalists and spectators have been robbed, the head of security was supposedly robbed at knife point after the opening ceremony before the thief was shot by police.

squoosh · 14/08/2016 23:04

Cursed my hole.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 14/08/2016 23:17

It's a real shame that there are so many empty seats. For many people the cost is simply out of their reach.

It's getting better as time goes on. London was the exception it was amazingly well organised though the first few days there were some empty seats

I think given the issues Brazil is having they are doing ok and getting better as time goes on

Team GB doing fantastically

EnquiringMingeWantsToKnow · 14/08/2016 23:18

It's a city with a fairly high crime rate. If you send thousands of people there then some of them will be robbed, and if they're all taking part in challenging physical disciplines then some of them will be injured.

There were stories about the Curse of London 2012 after 18 Olympians suffered violent deaths after the games. But so many people competed in London that you'd actually expect 28 randomly selected people of those ages to die in the four subsequent years.

Lweji · 14/08/2016 23:24

Oh, FGS, op.
You really have an axe to grind here.
Are you Argentinian or something?

Everyone knows London was way better. Get over it.

2kids2dogsnosense · 14/08/2016 23:25

Thank you Luna.

Don't know which I'd prefer personally (not that I'm likely to win one unless they make nagging a competitive sport).

Flowers fade, but a Thing has to be dusted . . .

DesolateWaist · 14/08/2016 23:37

They are saying that Rio is cursed. There have been so many injuries this year.

I heard that it was the first modern Olympics that were cursed really.
Everyone who took part or saw them is now dead. Everyone.

Lweji · 14/08/2016 23:43

Just shocking Desolate.
I bet the same will happen to the second Olympics in Athens. Just wait long enough.

DesolateWaist · 14/08/2016 23:44

It's like the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb. Where are they all now? Dead, that's where.

backinthebox · 14/08/2016 23:45

I've just got back and had the most amazing time. I asked some of the local people I met what they thought of it, and they were all fairly positive about the Games ( although I had a bit of a language barrier to overcome in a lot of cases!)

I think it's really only possible to pass judgement on whether something has been good or not if you have actually experienced it. The OP is going on nothing more than gut feeling and speculation.

Lweji · 15/08/2016 00:03

Where are they all now? Dead, that's where.

Unless they are mummies, posting on MN.

I think we should be supporting our athletes who are doing an amazing job - who cares about the organisation. If I had worked and trained for years to get to the pinnacle of my sport I wouldn't worry about how many people are watching in the stadium - the whole world is watching in their own home.
In the rugby 7's 90 percent of the population watched and cheered on Fiji - not looked for something to critisise. As a nation we constantly look for the negative - look for the positive instead - celebrate these amazing people for their achievements and don't demeans it by criticising the event, it really doesn't serve any purpose.

sniggy01 · 15/08/2016 01:11

Nothing shocking about Andy murrays win - historic 2 time gold medal winner - go team GB !!!!

SapphireStrange · 15/08/2016 09:29

even for the para games

YABU just for that.

pleasemothermay1 · 15/08/2016 09:35

poster Ghanagirl Sun 14-Aug-16 21:36:54

I am English nor white so try again with the accusations of racism

OP posts:
LunaLoveg00d · 15/08/2016 09:48

People who are not white can be racist you know.

pleasemothermay1 · 15/08/2016 09:50

You are obviously really racist, and also although you seem really up yourself for being English

The poster made the assumption I was white and English I am nither

That's it

OP posts:
pleasemothermay1 · 15/08/2016 09:51

If people want to make the leap that I am a rasict because I feel it's shocking the games were empty most of the bloody time then what ever gets you through the day 🙄

OP posts:
purplevase4 · 15/08/2016 09:52

I do sometimes think there should just be a permanent olympics site rather than rebuilding everything every 4 years. Maybe let the Germans do it. They'd be least likely to screw it up

Actually I think we'd be the least likely to mess up. Have you heard about their new Berlin airport? Whereas we've actually got it together with things like Crossrail now.

Anyway I think it's been great. As someone said, when Brazil were awarded the Games they were going to be 5th largest economy in the world. Now they're 34th (not 74th) - a heck of a drop. They've made a good job in a hard situation.

And Team GB has done us proud.

LunaLoveg00d · 15/08/2016 09:53

You are not coming across well here at all. You are sneering and making statements about how and why the Olympics are funded or organised when you clearly have no understanding of how it actually works. You are ignoring posters who do seem to know more about it. You appear to be in the "everything's shit" camp with other people who just like to criticise for the sake of it. SO negative.

SimonsGhost · 15/08/2016 09:56

If I were you, I'd stop reading the Sun and just enjoy the games! All this moaning in the face of such herculean efforts - by both the athletes and their teams and families, not to mention the organisers - is just a great big fat downer. And during in a one-in-four-years chance to step out of our hum drum lives and marvel at human endeavour.

Charley50 · 15/08/2016 09:59

I think people should stop picking on the OP's spelling and grammar. It's mean.
