Not all of them. But another thread reminded me of something that happened to me when I was young and naïve (pretty much c+p from thread - those who read both aren't having déjà vu!):

In my early twenties I got chatting to and then bought a(n assumed) homeless man a drink in a pub.
My friend took a shine to him and invited him back to his flag where the three of us had an impromptu party - drink, drugs etc. he partook in both.
Woke up on the sofa the next day and our new friend had gone. So had all excess alcohol, plastic bags which had trace amounts of drugs in etc. The flat was actually comparatively tidy.
Went home, two days later went to withdraw some money from the cash point - card gone. Went bank - account empty.

The police had CCTV of him at the cash point down the road that morning, but because he must have seen my PIN when I bought him the drink there was no official crime committed according to the bank, I should have been more careful. Which I agree with.

My passcode on my phone was the same as my card at the time (I knooow) so I've always assumed he saw/kind of saw my PIN and then when I yelled my passcode to my friend who was wanting to change a song he had a lightbulb moment.

People are arseholes sometimes despite your best intentions.

Discuss.

Good on him for robbing you blind because you were naive and trusting?!

Yes, as you can read OP people can indeed act like assholes.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 13/08/2016 12:24

I have had the opposite experience in that I did a lot of stupid things when I was younger (none of which I will ever mention on mn) and I came out of all of them completely unscathed. I'm either off the scale lucky or, on the whole, most people are ok.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/08/2016 12:27

Abyssinian was that directed at me? If so it's a bit dim to not be able to see difference between seeing bigger picture and applauding criminal actions, to see the least.

Not surprised on MN these days though.

Deathandtaxes it appears you can't read. Try again.

Erm okay... I have never watched Friends would sooner stick pins in my eyes so forgive me for not getting the reference

MeAndMy3LovelyBoys · 13/08/2016 12:36

Wow there's some right victim blaming going on on this thread!

Atenco · 13/08/2016 12:36

Good on him for robbing you blind because you were naive and trusting?!

Yuck
However the homeless are made up by all kinds of people, including some people whose families and friends want nothing more to do with them because they are just users.

I live in a place where people, in general, get very low wages and yet will chase after you with your wallet that you left behind in the shop. That is what amazes me

MarcelineTheVampire · 13/08/2016 13:17

OP I think you are getting an unnecessary hammering here- whilst yes you were naive and a little bit silly, which I am sure you are aware of, it doesn't mean that someone should steal from you.

I'll always remember when I was in college on a trip to London giving a homeless man my sandwiches and promptly having them thrown at my back and him shouting 'I don't like tuna fucking sandwiches'...some people are just arseholes.

Are you being rude and arsey.

Yes. Hth

deathandtaxes123 · 13/08/2016 15:50

rosie

I can read quite well thank you and, as it stands, I still have my bank card and cash in the bank.

Please learn your lesson.

I fear you won't though.

RosieWithTheGoodHair · 13/08/2016 16:47

Death can you though? Because this happened years ago. Keep up sweetie.

rosie you do seem to have a problem with going over board with alcohol. Best to address that before it spirals.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 13/08/2016 17:12

Yeah otherwise you may end up posting photos of your arse on MN..

Oh wait, that ship has sailed

Bluechip · 13/08/2016 17:15

What's your AIBU? Of course some people who steal from others are arseholes. HTH.

MarcelineTheVampire · 13/08/2016 17:25

Blimey, you're all being a bit harsh.

I thought your arse was lovely Rosie.

Willyorwonte · 13/08/2016 17:34

I really get the hump when people end with "discuss" therefore I won't, "discuss".
Yabu on all accounts

ReginaBlitz · 13/08/2016 17:36

Yes people are arseholes. But in this case it serves you fucking right for inviting randoms back to do something illegal.

deathandtaxes123 · 13/08/2016 23:04

Oh man rosie

Get help.

deathandtaxes123 · 13/08/2016 23:06

I kinda just feel a bit sorry for you.

WeekendAway · 13/08/2016 23:12

Well you sound like a bit of a twat taking random strangers home to get wasted on drink and drugs so I don't have much sympathy really. It could have been worse, you could have been raped or murdered.

I am surprised the police and the bank didn't see it as a crime though. He stole your card and withdrew your money without permission. The fact that he managed to see/find your PIN doesn't make it any less of a crime, surely? Confused

hownottofuckup · 13/08/2016 23:19

As he had the pin it might be difficult to prove she didn't give it to him? Still a crime from police point of view as bank card/drinks stolen but not the banks unless she's vulnerable. Although as this happened a while ago I wouldn't be surprised at all if the police "batted it".

Anyway, I don't think it's fair to say all people in his situation would do the same, I'm sure some wouldn't. But, I would agree that there a suprising amount of cunts in the world.
