AiBU to think it's a good idea to sleep in child's cotbed?

...child won't sleep anywhere but our bed...& hasn't ever in his life. he is now massive at 8 months so I'm thinking of just giving up on sleep "training" and letting him have my spot in our lovely double bed & squeezing self into his massive, eternally vacant cotbed that is currently clogging up our bedroom.

I think if I put my knees up high enough and borrow a blankie I might just about get a nights sleep before potentially falling through the bottom of it...

I'm often partially in the cot bed as it's generally the only available space in the room. It is up against my bed though so I'm not climbing in or anything. Poor thing sits there all night lonely and abandoned

All is not lost. The first time my son ever slept in a cot was at 14 months when he had an overnight stay in hospital. He now sleeps in his own bed most nights and has done since 15 months. He would still prefer our bed but I'm surprised at how well he's adapted.

This ia why I went straight to co sleeping with DC3 DC1 was the best baby ever didn't want to be cuddled, DC2 wouldn't let go of me and I took no chances with DC3!

Is the cot bed in your bedroom? If not you could move close to your bed so you can 'hold' his hand? DC3 moved into her own room when she was just over one with no issues we won't talk about DC2

I believe they can hold up to 300lbs....yes been there done that

Hell no, at least get yourself a good single bed with a memory foam lol. I had a huge prob with DS wanting to be in my bed (he's 10 now so thats a distant memory) I just used to persist moving him into his own bed in the middle of the night, a hour after he fell asleep, half a hour after he fell asleep... to his own bed for good. Sounds easy now and it wasn't but the key is persistence. He isn't going to want to be in your bed when he's a tween... that's a fact lol

Have done a few times. I climb in with DD when she can't sleep. At 2.1 years old she is small enough for me to bend round her (leaving my arse hanging out). I usually get out when she is asleep but have fallen asleep too sometimes. We have a spare double bed but I don't want to encourage co-sleeping every night.

Check the design of the slats first, unless you're the weight of a six year old many will eventually break. (use to sit on ours, slats bowed, didnt notice, then broke)

I would put the mattress on the floor, then you can overspill a bit.

Btw something we did with DD who had a similar design to be in our bed was to take one side off her cotbed and put it next to our bed at the same height so she was next to us but not actually in our bed. Really important to make sure theres no gap she could roll in (cant remember how we plugged it) but worked really well with her.

Our no.3 loved cuddling and designated me the role of blanket/soother/cuddly toy very early on.Despite never sharing a bed with our other two, dc3 has been impossible to shift!

We caved in eventually and my husband took the side off a normal cot from IKEA (their cheapest one) and with the mattress on the highest setting, it's the same height as our mattress. It's barely squeezed in next to my side of the bed.

He still shares my pillow but I can angle his legs towards the cot which helps a bit. He's 2.5 now and showing no signs of moving out.

I have spent many a night in a cot bed. Usually with a child though. While DH had a king size bed to himself.
