First of all I'm quite a calm person, it's takes a lot to rattle me

so I was driving today, not much traffic on the roads, a nice smooth ride until I was stopped at traffic lights, indicating my intention to turn left, I went forward, then this fucker cyclist decides to try and play chicken just as I was taking the turn, I stupidly of course had to stop, I then beeped at the cunt cyclist to show I have saved his lifeHmmwho then gave me the finger!!!Angry

So my AIBU is can I run the fucker cyclist over next time, as I think it will serve a lesson to all who think it's my fucking job to look out for idiots who take risks like that??

Motorists are responsible for over 3/4 of all collisions involving cyclists. I became a better driver after I'd take up cycling. I don't get the hate for cyclists tbh. Shitty drivers are much more dangerous and if every cyclist gave up and drove instead there'd be even more cars on the road.

Capricorn76 · 10/08/2016 19:25

Also from your OP it really isn't clear who was at fault. Maybe you failed to see the cyclist/they were in a blindspot? Maybe you indicated late?

If a child ran out in front of your car would you be on here calling them a fucker and talk about running them over? You sound like an aggresive, angry driver tbh.

CatNip2 · 10/08/2016 19:27

I agree many cyclists don't follow the rules of the road. Red traffic lights? No problem, mount the kerb and nip through. Traffic jam? No problem overtake on the on the inside.

Cyclists should be fined for ignoring the Highway Code and should have insurance for all the accidents they cause.

Drivers also don't follow the rules of the road, for many including not having insurance. Nobody goes very well at enforcing the basic rules including not drink driving, not driving on a mobile phone etc.

The sooner autonomous cars become the norm the better.

Waltermittythesequel · 10/08/2016 19:33

These threads always go the same way, with posters stomping their feet about how dangerous some drivers are, like it's relevant to the OP.

Sounds like he was a prick. But apparently bicycle helmets come with wings and a halo these days...

Lulioli · 10/08/2016 19:35

I hate those Lycra nazis with the fucking cameras on their heads!! What's that all about?? They tend to be the ones who drive thru red lights, undertake and break just about every Highway Code. It's so frustrating!!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/08/2016 19:35

YANBU but some people seem to think cyclists can do no wrong and it's always the evil motorists fault.

SpeakNoWords · 10/08/2016 19:36

The cyclist was obviously wrong, but I really don't understand all the rage and the violent urges about it.

caroldecker · 10/08/2016 19:36

So the cyclist was in the left hand straight on lane, was in front of you and went straight on.
You were turning left into the cyclist and it is his fault?

One of you was a stupid fucker, and not the cyclist

Unicornsarelovely · 10/08/2016 19:38

Well, Walter as I've already said - I'm biased because my DH was smashed into while he was cycling and won't walk without crutches again. He wasn't doing anything stupid, but the level of hate as shown on this thread makes cyclists generally the enemy and it becomes less safe for everyone not in a car.

The cyclist was stupid. The op's attitude is appalling.

Unicornsarelovely · 10/08/2016 19:39

The cameras on the cyclist are very useful for the police to prosecute dangerous drivers and for cyclists in obtaining compensation for life changing injuries.

SpeakNoWords · 10/08/2016 19:39

carol the cyclist came up from behind the OP, he wasn't already in front of her.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/08/2016 19:40

I always remember a cyclist that got killed by a lorry because she came up the inside of lorry turning left at the lights. You would have to be completely stupid to ride up the inside of someone indicating left.

Needabiscuit · 10/08/2016 19:40

I said I saved his life in jest!!

And comparing a child to an adult who is fully aware of road safely is a every bad example

OP posts:
Waltermittythesequel · 10/08/2016 19:55

This thread is proof positive that people will find any means possible to excuse cyclists from fault. And that's a dangerous attitude.

Needabiscuit · 10/08/2016 19:56

Unicorn sorry to hear what happened to your husband and daughter, there are some very awful drivers that think they own the road, there are also other road users who take risks

He was behind me when I took off and I obviously wasn't going fast as I was three cars deep at the lights

I'm not an angry person, I was ranting at the situation, I don't need anger management, just frustrated at what happened today

OP posts:
snowgirl1 · 10/08/2016 20:00

Maybe he stuck his finger up at you in jest.

PunkrockerGirl · 10/08/2016 20:03

Yanbu. Although you are very brave to post on here. For future reference OP, dickhead wanker cyclists can do no wrong on mn. It will always be your fault, however much the stupid fuckers disregard the rules of the road Wink

Unicornsarelovely · 10/08/2016 20:03

It is also dangerous that most drivers think they are above average drivers. No one will ever admit that they're a bit shit or not concentrating.

That leads to a false sense of security that accidents don't happen to me and it's all other people. That isn't the case for anyone so everyone using the roads has to be careful and assume other people are not concentrating. Stupidity is not a good reason to joke about killing someone.

caroldecker · 10/08/2016 20:06

If he was behind you, then you wouldn't have hit him - he must have been in front/alongside you when you started to turn or you couldn't have hit him. Therefore his right of way.
Whether he was sensible considering the Op's desire to kill him is a different matter.

specialsubject · 10/08/2016 20:08

sounds like the cyclist took a big risk by undertaking. However the OP broke the highway code by using the horn as she said she did.

BUT some drivers don't realise how fast cyclists can accelerate. The woman who nearly killed my partner was one of them - BTW he was already on the roundabout and she pulled out on him.

aggression has no place on the road.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 10/08/2016 20:10

It's not his right of way if he's undertaking traffic Carol - it's dangerous and illegal to do so.

SpeakNoWords · 10/08/2016 20:16

I don't understand the aggression towards cyclists in general. I see plenty of stupid and dangerous driving from car drivers and motor cyclists, as well as from cyclists. They're all just people, and some people make bad decisions and don't stick to the rules.

Whereisthesnow · 10/08/2016 20:16

I don't know if anyone has said this but there is no such thing as road tax
I cycle a lot. Generally on quiet country roads. To be honest some of the driving is so bloody awful you have to be aggressive and stand up to yourself on a little bike versus a huge car.
