People are always posting about their/dh's etc mysterious hobbies on aibu, am I the only one who always wonders what they are? I seem to picture really exciting things when it's probably just train spotting or something (which I'm sure is exciting for some people!).

OP posts:
TwoLittleBlooms · 10/08/2016 23:03

GeekMama, just curious but what is LARPing? And table top role playing? (I'm sure it is really obvious but just can't figure it out!)

Mine is astronomy (which I'm starting a degree in soon - so mega excited!) and sudoku and reading physics books/journals. I also like sewing but that comes and goes - I go through phases where the kids get loads made (clothes, blankets etc) and then machine will gather dust until my next sewing splurge (usually when there is a fancy dress costume needed for school at last minute!).

wobblywonderwoman · 10/08/2016 23:03

I used to love upcycling furniture but have three pieces finished and no room for more.

I do a little gardening- but not much really.

RattataPidgeyRattataPidgey · 10/08/2016 23:03

Gaming and watching other people game. When I'm less stressed: running. Constantly, whether I want to or not: battling with my iPad keyboard to make sure it's in English and not correcting what I type to utterly stupid things.

MillicentKing · 10/08/2016 23:06

Mine is running, except I am injured at the moment so now I swim and do strength classes. Love it!

TaraCarter · 10/08/2016 23:08

I can't understand all this "blah blah blah can't say any more or it will out me" shite. Unless the hobby is dressing up as Goebbels for Diwali, I can't imagine that many people would care who you are.

Actually, I once pretty much identified someone on MN, who I have never met in RL, from a mention of a (very common) hobby.

ShelaghTurner · 10/08/2016 23:11

My hobby is being left the fuck alone to write or to read. DH'a hobbies are bell ringing and presenting a show on a small local radio station where he pretends he has listeners.

Aikido, Shotokai karate and Jujitsu.

Only started martial arts 2 years ago and hadn't done any exercise since PE at school! It's surprisingly addictive.

DH hobbies, as per previous poster - TV and beer Grin

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 10/08/2016 23:28

Great to see so many fellow runners!

I also love urbexing. Urban exploration.

And geocaching.... Another family hobby

Kittykatmacbill · 10/08/2016 23:31

Dh hobbies are gaming and taking professional exams and writing dull journal articles.

Together pre children hiking and pub quizzes, now fantisising about going out for brunch
Mine pre children running, yoga and random crafting, now battling the laundry mountain and not ever quite finishing novels.

Stevefromstevenage · 10/08/2016 23:33

Mine are cycling, running and circuits. I absolute hate running, with every fibre of my being, but it is by far the most sociable so I cannot give it up. I love cycling but I do it alone so I get a bit lonely and the circuit class is between the two sociallywise but the feel good boost afterwards is fantastic.

manicinsomniac · 10/08/2016 23:34

Dancing - tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, commercial
Amateur Dramatics
Musical Theatre Choir
Gymnastics
Hiking
Reading

MapMyMum · 10/08/2016 23:36

Mine is sleeping or at least trying to. Oh and avoiding housework

PurpleWithRed · 10/08/2016 23:38

In a tense exchange recently I accused dh of needing a hobby (tense exchange revolved around my disappearance yet again to do one of my hobbies). He sniffly said his hobby was keeping the house clean and tidy. Not a joke - he gets a lot of satisfaction from knowing the carpets are hoovered and the work tops are clean enough to host open heart surgery in an emergency. Quite handy really.

Marmalade85 · 10/08/2016 23:39

Watching Netflix and mumsnet which I think is more common than people admit to.

Otherwise it's cycling, golf, iron man, jumping out of planes, crossfit, triathlons etc

MadameJosephine · 11/08/2016 00:24

Kateallison16 · 11/08/2016 00:41

Crikey shall I just list off my hobbies?

Jewellery making, blogging, reading, writing (working on a novel)
I run an etsy store selling stickers for women who use planners, I use planners, cardmaking, crochet, scrapbooking, painting, photoshop design...
I used to make hair extensions and reborn dolls too but havent for a while (will add pics if anyone wants to be nosey)

There are more. I am enjoying home DIY at the moment and also thinking about trying some fabric work or attending a pottery class.

I am 24 and always been very quick to learn new things, that is why I have so many I think.

Kateallison16 · 11/08/2016 00:44

Oh and I left out a few!
Baking, geocaching, pokemon go, I collect mini make ups ... I dont know why I just like it.
I also am known to game from time to time too.

I hope to add traveling to the list next year.

MistressDeeCee · 11/08/2016 00:54

My hobby is dance, I do that twice weekly. I was a dancer in my younger years and I still deliver workshops from time to time on an outreach basis - I work from home in terms of the organising/admin of it all

OH's hobby is music, he's in a band

I do also like downtime hobbies tho Im not so good with always "doing" - I can read fiction for hours if Im left to it whilst pretending to be working

I would love to learn to sew, and create fabulous outfits all in the colour and material I want,

toffeeboffin · 11/08/2016 01:06

Bloody hell you're all flipping marvellous aren't you Grin Like the Famous Five.

Used to like cooking but then it became humdrum and routine.

Most nights I'm too knackered for a hobby and just pass out in front of the TV or MN

I do like walking, cycling, spinning, reading and cooking when I have the time and energy.

HicDraconis · 11/08/2016 01:12

Karate, tramping / hiking, knitting, baking, reading, playing Pokemon Go :)

DH's hobbies are karate, tramping, hunting, Xbox-zombie-blowing-up games.

Boys hobbies are karate, computer games and reading.

LARPing is Live Action Role Playing - I used to do a fair bit when I was younger, but it was more of a Uni thing.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 11/08/2016 01:13

I can't understand all this "blah blah blah can't say any more or it will out me" shite

Yes, because they are literally the only person on the internet who goes jogging. Jogging you say? Must be Jane Smith of 15 Acacia Avenue, Surbiton. Tennis? That's Linda Sidebottom from Neath.

What I find even more irritating is the (like x, but not x). My daughter plays on a sports team (like basketball, bit not basketball) and we live in a city (like Leeds, but not Leeds) and I was late to practice on Wednesday as my car (like an Astra, but not an Astra) broke down in a busy road. Should we still offer to pay this week's subs?

Stevefromstevenage · 11/08/2016 01:25

Jane Smith of 15 Acacia Avenue, Surbiton

Fuck I knew if I mentioned running it would put me Grin

Stevefromstevenage · 11/08/2016 01:25

Out me even
