i need a hearing aid and my heel hurts, aibu to feel bloody old today?

Went for a hearing test in the hospital today, I have hearing loss in the upper register. So the consultant informed me, apparently I "can't hear women talking" (unless it's Mariella Fostrop" presumably)

I have also been having heel pain for the last week or so. Plantar fasciitis I think. So I have been limping around town feeling like Mrs Brady old lady with me shopping bags and feeling very sorry for myself.

So no offence meant to older people but i am 42 and I don't feel ready for rocking a hearing aid but I need to duck it up and put my big girl pants on I suppose. Bah.

I only have myself to blame for the hearing loss, too many gigs and all nighters in the 90's are to blame!

Know exactly how you feel. I'm only 33 but I wear maskers on both ears - they're not hearing aids, they're for tinnitus, but they look just like them. I also wear glasses and have been told not to use my contact lenses anymore because apparently my corneas are "oxygen starved". I feel like a bloody old lady. It sucks. At least when our friends start aging we'll be old hands

I am sorry chipped. I know that logically but my emotional response is still catching up. Being deaf all your life or from childhood is not what I am thinking about it is the aging/ dulling of the senses that happens anyway and is a reminder of our mortality that i am coming to terms with. I have hastened that process by blasting my eardrums at gigs and I have to accept that. I am also hobbling around due to the heel pain so yes I am feeling my age and more today.

I am right at the beginning of the process, give me 6 months I shall be rocking my aid with pride in the prime of my life.

27 now and I don't think twice about it. I even forget I've got it sometimes

Yes if you are noticing a difference need a check up is probably necessary. Do you not get reminders for regular tests as a matter of course like? I was thinking it was like wearing specs you need retesting and updated prescriptions on a regular basis.

No. Not since secondary school. Because my hearing stabilised and had no change, I no longer had to come in. Just need to make an appointment with my audiologist if I want a check up

I am always pretending to hear what people are saying. Pauldacre so there is a lot of nodding and agreeing it is quite isolating really. I am ok in quieter situations but in a noisy pub I just cannot keep up ... So if I am wearing a visible aid it might make things easier in situations where the aid won't help much but people being aware I might need them yo slow down/ speak clearly will iyswim?

Ooh, I'm just finding put I have hearing issues too. In both ears. I've had my hearing test and now have my consultant appointment next week. When they went through the list of things that could have caused my loss (sensorineural), I could tick all the boxes - the medications, the illnesses, exposure to loud noises...

Also, my hair is falling put and what's left is greying, and today I have found what looks to be a varicose vein in my calf.

Oh dear zebra - I have varicose veins too, I think the first one popped out to say hi in my 30's but I spent most of my thirties on my feet chasing after or carrying around my exceptionally large unwieldy children so I blame them. They turn hair grey as well the little buggers.

I was told that my middle ear was perfect by the consultant, so that was nice.

I'm 52 and have so acquired so many aches and pains in the last 12 months I feel much older. I have to roll out of bed in the morning and it takes me a good 10 minutes to get going.
DH is 54 and is hard of hearing but in denial and refuses to go for a hearing test. I'm convinced it is due to vanity as he doesn't want hearing aids. His DF has worn them for many years, but DH can't remember when he first got them but he's had them for a long as I've known him - so definitely early 60's. I am fed up of having to re-answer questions DH has just been asked as he has given a completely nonsensical reply . I just wish he'd get hearing aids and stop avoiding the issue because he'll feel old. (our DD has had hearing aids since shortly after birth so not sure why he associates them with getting old).

I have two hearing aids (had first one 15 years ago when I was 47), tinnitus in both ears too 😟
Add to that sliver hair, dental bridges, glasses / contact lens and a gammy ankle at 62 I'm heading for the scrap heap 😀

Just googled sensorineural hearing loss and clearly that is what is affecting me as well. Noise trauma.

I need glasses more and more and my knees make alarming creaking sounds. YANBU OP

It is life really a terminal disease, I could deny it or accept and embrace it - I am aiming for the latter. Pass the gin.

Don't have hearing problems but can't see very well close up anymore. I'm 54. I do have reading glasses but am always forgetting to take them out with me. Yesterday when out shopping I had to keep saying to my 14 year old DD, "how much is that?", "what does that say?"

I have also taken to stretching my legs and feet before I get out of bed in the mornings or I can barely walk. I also see my mother looking back at me in the mirror every day.

I seem to have lost one of my aids. I'm going to have to grovel to audiology. again. But really, if you need an aid, just wear it. You'll hear the birds singing and all!!

I have about six pairs of reading glasses, can I join?
I'm also training into a gnarly-jointed, wrinkly old fart.
