It's been a while since I was buying gifts for a wedding so seeking views please! Friend of mine is being best man later this year and is unsure what would would be reasonable to spend on a gift for the couple. It's a fairly traditional affair with a pretty established couple. No mad stag do in ibiza planned that I'm aware of....Friend is just retired so not rolling in it and will have hotel, travelling and other ancillary wedding costs I assume. I thought £50 would be very generous....views?

I usually spend £20 as evening guest £30 as all day guest and would prob do £50 as a bridesmaid etc.

Realistically it is all variable but those amounts reflect what I can afford to and am comfortable spending based on how close I am to the couple.as bridesmaid a few weeks back I put £10 in a collection and bought a £10 board game but then I also am spending hours editing her wedding video for nothing which is worth far more than £50 in my time.

£50 is fine, £100 is fine, £5 is fine, just a card is fine.

Whatever someone can afford is fine.

We're getting married in December and DP's best man is still a student (DP just graduated). Apparently our gift from all the ushers is the tackiest ugliest gravy boats they can find Grin but we wouldn't expect anything from the best man or any of the ushers or anyone else for that matter.

In fact if the best man can keep DP calm the night before the wedding he'll have been more than worth his weight in gold Grin

i spent £50 on a wedding present once, the couple split up within six months, i was hoping to get a refund because everyone said it wouldn't last that long and the pressies were returned. Grin

I'm a bridesmaid for my best friend next week and the gift I've got for the bride and groom has cost me £60, that's a lot of money for me especially considering the wedding is 7 hours away from home so I've had to pay for travelling and a hotel room for 4 nights, if I didn't have the additional costs and the wedding was close to home I might have spent £100

There has been the odd wedding when we have given that much (as a couple) but there have been any more occasions where weve given ( or more usually spent) less.

Please don't take MN as "representative " of the whole population though. The income bracket on here is very skewed.
