Baby gift

A very close mate bought my son a lovely "welcome to the world"'gift. I took it back to the shop (without gift receipt) to change it for a bigger size as my Ds is massive and it doesn't fit. Turns out the gift is currently worth 79p as it was 2015 stock and I can't get a bigger size as its long been discontinued. Aibu to feel a bit put out about this? It's a very good mate, we were bridesmaids at each other's weddings are both godmothers to each other's first children see loads of each other etc etc....I'm not being ungrateful but it just seems a bit tight, just wondered whether others would feel the same!!

I would assume she'd paid full price for it the second she found out you were pregnant. As she was so excited about your pregnancy.

Thinking the worst is your problem and doesn't reflect her gift or intention Sad

Well it does if you know the personHmm I know my BF is a tight arse, which is perfectly reflected in her gifts and intentions. I'm sure OP knows her friend too

A gift is a gift. I'd be delighted that I got something nice and my friend didn't have to spend much to give it to me.

Honestly, your priorities are all wrong.

I have three very close friends announce pregnancies and one of them is expecting twins. None are finding out the sex of the babies.

I had planned to buy a handful of boy/girl/unisex stuff that I see and love pretty much safe in the knowledge that there will be at least one of each gender out of that bunch. One of the babies isn't due til Feb 2017. More than likely whatever I buy will have been reduced by then but if I love it I'm not taking the chance of it selling out by then.

I'd be offended if you were happy with a gift and of you later discovered it was now reduced felt slighted by it.

This whole episode says more about you than her.

as soon as my best friend told me she was 6 weeks pregnant i started buying small gifts so chances are if she tried to return any of it after the baby was born it would have been discontinued or at least reduced in price

a gift is a gift regarless of the cost

Ds has just opened his present from his uncle. It is what we gave to his cousin 2 years ago. Ds is 3 years older than his cousin and I know it's the same one as I can see the imprint of the pen set ( which was the more expensive bit of the present too) I gave with it.
I think it probably goes back to cousin's younger brother, who is 6years younger Tha ds and about the right age for it.
