To think we deserve a recession?

Although it will hurt my family, my wage and DPs wage, I kind of think we deserve to be punished for being 'the stupid brits' who voted for brexit. I voted remain and sincerely wish we had, but now we are leaving I think we deserve what we get. In future people might think twice.....

I think, quite honestly that we as a nation have proven ourselves to be stupid

With an OP like yours you can speak for yourself there, pet.

I'm currently in France and every opportunity a Frenchman gets we are told that we have made a very bad decision and no good will come of it.

Yes, that's really happening Hmm Grin

The French women are still cool with us though, right?

By defeatist attitude I mean that if everyone is going to blame Brexit for everything then where will it stop? Do we just sit back and watch the country fall to pieces saying "Well its all the Brexit voters fault" or do we try and support politicians and parties that will get out there and try to create a new place in the world for the UK?

It has happened! All the hand wringing in the world wont change that. Instead of tilting at windmills, accept reality and do the best you can with it.

I agree that it is not constructive to blame Brexit when the evidence is not clear that Brexit caused the issue. On the other hand, it is also not reasonable to put heads in sand and claim that all economic issues were either going to happen anyway or are happening because of poor attitudes.

It has happened!

But actually the point is that Brexit has not happened yet and no decision has yet been made about our future relationship with the EU. The referendum campaign was dominated by lies and untruths. I would like to see a more honest discussion of the options for our relationship with the EU, instead of pretence that we can have our cake and eat it.

BTW the reality for me is that my area of expertise is likely to be leaving the country (me with it). I've definitely "accepted that reality and am doing the best I can with it". I don't have to like it, though.

Ah, France.

No massive right wing movement there, is there?

I'm sure they know better than us :)

And France, where there's such racial tolerance, no youth unemployment and the EU has brought them such massive economic progress and stability.

FWIW I have a French and German colleague - (both working in their home countries) who have told me we are doing the right thing and they wish their country would do the same.
