To think we deserve a recession?

ladyjadey · 05/08/2016 00:34

Although it will hurt my family, my wage and DPs wage, I kind of think we deserve to be punished for being 'the stupid brits' who voted for brexit. I voted remain and sincerely wish we had, but now we are leaving I think we deserve what we get. In future people might think twice.....

crossroads, the people who didn't vote are assumed to agree to go with the majority, therefore agree with brexit. If they had an opinion, they'd have voted. Using the ones who didn't vote as if they are some kind of silent, non voting victims is silly. They had just as much chance as anyone.

ladyjadey · 05/08/2016 11:37

Jammie dodgers duly consumed.

I am not wishing for a recession but from where I'm sitting it looks like we are heading that way. I don't wish hardship on anyone. I will undoubtedly suffer along with everyone else, perhaps not as badly as some that's fair to say. I do think a lot of people need to wake up and smell the coffee though, the grass looks the same colour to me. I feel sorry that I have children to bring up in this world. I too cried when I heard the leave vote.

No high horse Just and hear what you're saying. I just still happen to believe that Brexit is the final nail. We may have been limping before, but we're completely lame now.

Castiron I don't imagine a master plan were needed for Remain because we weren't completely broken before - unlike now. Sure it needed reform. It didn't need us to throw the baby out with the bath water. I'm all for attempting to work together, but it would be helpful to have a steer from any Leave supporters who did actually have some kind of vision beyond the referendum.

LittleLionMansMummy · 05/08/2016 12:09

Oh and there's no need to be glib about plagues etc Castiron. Beyond the economy I'd say the 57% rise is hate crime is more than enough to be going on with for now.

Bogeyface · 05/08/2016 12:28

Peregrina But that was the lie she was sold, that scroungers would be clamped down on "But not you, you're not a scrounger because you have a job" except that the working poor, the ill, the disabled etc were all lumped together under the "Scrounger" banner and treated accordingly. After doing that it was inevitable that those who suffered were not going to support DC in anything, and I think that that was a major reason for the result. People werent voting to leave the EU, they were voting against DC. The rights and wrongs of that is a different issue, but I am certain that it played a big part.

Peregrina · 05/08/2016 12:35

Yes, I agree. He pulled off a surprise election win, and the feeling was he would do so again, so a vote against him was to give him a bloody nose. Well, it did that alright, in that it's wrecked his reputation, but the country itself has got hurt in the fight.

WellErrr · 05/08/2016 12:37

Well at least you have proved that not all "remainers" are intelligent

Britain is too awful for cultured and sexually skilful Remain voters like me

By Some Tiresome Fucker

OVER the past few weeks I have come to realise that although my friends and I are amazing, Britain is not. For people like me – educated, tall, a skilful yet tender lover – the reality of this country is now too horrible to bear, like a non-ironic Wetherspoon breakfast.

After the thick-necked masses, with their love of rollercoasters and bucket-based chicken meals, voted to sever ties with Europe, my own relationship was irreparably damaged. Although my partner Helena also voted Remain, the situation left us both traumatised and resulted in my fingering her cousin at Womad, probably because of stress.

Now I feel I have little choice but to leave this barbaric cultural wasteland for Canada, which has 93 native varieties of granola, or perhaps Glasgow which is technically still part of the UK but with a thriving indie scene and friendly working class people. Both open-minded places that aren’t jealous of bearded, attractive people or hung up on petty notions of sexual fidelity.

Over the past months, while riding my skateboard on the pavement to my shared creative media workspace, I’ve noticed people muttering ‘prick’ or ‘fucking twat’ behind my back – just typical of the small island mentality of people who go to Asda and read crime thrillers on holiday.

Although you might think little has changed in the past month or so, perhaps that’s because your life has always been fairly shit. I go to theatres, restaurants and cutting edge art exhibitions, so I probably know more than you.

Sorry to leave, Britain, but it’s time to go somewhere less horrible, where people don’t read books just for the story and handsome men can spend £400 on quality knitwear without getting snide comments in the pub.

Anyway my dad has agreed to lend me the money for a warehouse apartment in Vancouver so let’s all go there and have amazing sex until the world realises how we are right about everything.

Bogeyface · 05/08/2016 12:45

Thats the trouble, we got shot down by "friendly fire" in this.

That said, I do think that with the right attitude we can come out of this better than we were before. But currently there is a defeatist attitude of "It will all go to hell", well it will if we are so determined that it will!

It is what it is, and the only way we can go is forward so we need to work hard to make the best of it.

PerspicaciaTick · 05/08/2016 12:51

A recession isn't a moral judgement on anyone's choices.
However I don't think anyone should be surprised that there is a recession. We teach our children that actions have consequences and it seems that some adults are also learning that lesson at the moment.
But we really need to be looking forward and working to get out of the mess we are in, not bemoaning the choices that led us here.

Zame · 05/08/2016 13:00

I kind of know what you're thinking op, kind of.
I'm poor and voted remain. I think leaving the eu will be a very bad thing for the uk and especially for those on a low income. I would love it if the negatives only affected the people who voted to leave as I'm so angry at being forced out of the EU by them but hey ho.
I'm not going to do as a lot of brexiters keep saying and forget which way we voted and all pull together whatever the fuck that means. But I hope that I'm proven wrong and it all ends up rosy.

Justanotherlurker · 05/08/2016 13:00

I read that the other day Surfer, was it Dailymash.

I got forwarded this today as well

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 05/08/2016 13:09

I definitely don't want there to be a recession. Was one of the reasons I voted Remain. But it seems inevitable now. Pesky 'experts' with their correct predictions.

haybott · 05/08/2016 13:21

But currently there is a defeatist attitude of "It will all go to hell", well it will if we are so determined that it will!

This seems to suggest that the economic problems are caused by defeatist attitude.

In my workplace the problems are being caused by foreign investors withdrawing their contracts and by foreign students not wanting to come here because of fee/visa uncertainty and racism, not by defeatist attitudes from staff.

That said, I do think that with the right attitude we can come out of this better than we were before.

I would be genuinely interested in how this is meant to work in the science sector of the economy i.e. what better would be and how we could get there.

crossroads3 · 05/08/2016 13:29

Tried to tell my husband that some of this stuff is already happening (see delayed Nissan investment in Sunderland) and he told me it was made up.

Sad
Toxicity · 05/08/2016 13:39

OP, I have read a lot of stupid stuff on her but your posts take the biscuit!

Toxicity · 05/08/2016 13:39

*here

fakenamefornow · 05/08/2016 13:39

It strikes me that there's a magic bullet for our economic troubles as well. This is a recession entirely of our own making.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 05/08/2016 14:01

Everyone close your eyes and shout 'I believe in Nissan staying in Sunderland, I do, I do, I do' yeah?

ladyjadey · 05/08/2016 14:01

I think, quite honestly that we as a nation have proven ourselves to be stupid. Feed me all the biscuits you like, I will munch! I'm currently in France and every opportunity a Frenchman gets we are told that we have made a very bad decision and no good will come of it. If we have made a shit sandwich then I think we deserve to eat it.

Sounds like France is fun what with French men coming up to you telling you that you are stupid and posting on here.

Enjoy your hols.

panegyricS1 · 05/08/2016 14:41

I was in France three weeks ago and no one mentioned Brexit. You must be in a particularly "political" region, with all these people clamouring to discuss it with you.

Just enjoy your holiday, OP. Stop fretting.

Metalguru · 05/08/2016 16:23

Watched the brexit gogglebox special during the week. One woman was pleased we voted out largely because we'll be able to but bendy bananas and cucumbers again

You sound every bit as stupid as my neighbour who watched Benefit Street and then told me that single mums were having babies because they got so much in benefits

Op don't be so bloody stupid. I voted remain but I'm sick to death of all the handwringing from people who genuinely seem to want everything to go to shit, the quicker the better to prove how right and clever they were to vote remain.
