To ask what your essential every day make-up products are

I've never done anything with my eyebrows (except pluck/wax) until Monday this week when I decided to try a tinted eyebrow gel. I 've been using it every day since and can't believe the difference it makes (my eyebrows are very light). I feel I've been missing out for years! My daily make up routine is very basic and consists of moisturiser, light foundation, mascara and a bit of blusher. So, I want to know, what other products have I been 'missing out on'? Grin

scarednoob just out of interest what skin tone are you? I'm v pale, swore by benetint for years and then I swear they changed their formula - I ended up with cheeks that looked less orgasmically flushed and more like Bob Fleming of Fast Show fame

Concealer and a high coverage foundation (like the Vichy dermablend stuff). I have always had bad skin so covered my whole face with foundation but have recently been using a BB cream or really light foundation all over just to even up my skin tone then concentrated the heavier stuff where I need it (chin, round my nose, spots, and under eyes) which makes me look like I'm not wearing any make up!

Also mascara and agree that a bit of time on eyebrows makes so much difference

Apologies if you thought I was being sneers, I wasn't meaning to. It was a genuine question, as I explained, in my background we don't, generally, so I was wondering why. If it was a personal thing, or a society thing? I was curious, not sneery. It was part of a wider musing regarding societies expectations of women and the perceived look a woman needs to achievers order to be considered attractive. By themselves, or others.

Tabsicle · 05/08/2016 11:09

Moisturizer + foundation.
Blusher.
Lip liner.
Lipstick
Lip gloss
Eyeshadow - normally two shades.
Eyeliner
Mascara

Cheesymonster · 05/08/2016 11:22

If anyone wants to try Benefit Gimme Brow you can get a free one with Glamour magazine this month

hellsbellsmelons · 05/08/2016 11:29

Nothing.
CBA!
But I do go and get my HD brows every 6 weeks.

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/08/2016 12:17

Didn't think I was being "sneery" but do have to point out that some who do wear makeup do look down on those that don't. I have had my fair share over the years of PA comments etc

Thing that put me off wearing makeup was as a child I would frequent a particular department store that had the highly made up women trying to sell perfume and makeup at the front of the store. You had to walk through them to get to anywhere you wanted to go and they had a certain smell. It was disgusting. If I get too close to someone who is wearing a lot of makeup I sometimes smell the same smell. Anyone know what I am talking about? It is a really acrid gone off type of smell

SaucyJack · 05/08/2016 12:23

Bourjois Air Mat foundation.
Maybelline Volum'Express Lift-Up mascara.

scarednoob · 05/08/2016 12:34

2many Hahahaha that made me laugh! I am also pastier than a pasty on pasty drugs, but haven't noticed that, what a shame. Have you tried the lollipop pink colour instead??

Tiggywinkler · 05/08/2016 12:39

Jin - why not start your own thread? You should get a response then without hijacking another conversation. Smile

I use Garnier BB cream, a tiny bit of Bobbi Brown blusher, a swipe of (whatever was on offer in Boots) mascara, and Vaseline on my lips.

I've been cursed blessed with humongous dark eyebrows that don't need filling in, once they've been threaded into submission!

GloveBug · 05/08/2016 13:15

Cheesymonster Shock Shock I wish I'd known that before I bought Gimme Brow earlier this week. Might go and get another one though Smile

I need someone to teach me how to do makeup. I'm in my mid-30s now and my skin is not what it used to be. I am a total newbie though. This thread seems as good a place as any to ask - is it worth getting an appointment at a makeup counter and asking them to show me how to do a basic everyday face? Is that even how it works? I'm rubbish with this sort of thing...

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/08/2016 13:21

Oooh I love a make up thread Grin.

Nivea Aftershave balm ; as a Primer
Guerlain Parure foundation [best I've ever used] or Nars tinted moisturiser.
Hourglass Ambient Powder.
Chantecaille Bronzer.
Bobbi Brown concealer, eyeliner and mascara.

I've just bought a NYX eyebrow pencil from Boots which I've found is as good as my old Anastasia one.

I don't tend to wear lipstick on a daily basis.

Sonders · 05/08/2016 13:58

I have 2 options depending on how much time I have in the morning!

Every day:
Benefit Stay Don't Stray (eye primer)
Urban Decay Naked 2 Basic (mini one) for brows and eyes
Benefit They're Real mascara
Various lipsticks
Mac translucent loose powder

If I hit snooze less I add the following:
Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser
Mac concealer
Bobbi Brown blush in Uber beige
Topshop Glow highlighter (this stuff is amazing)

I need advice though, my tinted moisturiser is running out and I can't really afford a new one right now - would anyone recommend one from one of the cheaper brands?

RubbleBubble00 · 05/08/2016 14:02

Ube lazy now

Just boots 7 cc cream and some solid blush

Cheesymonster · 05/08/2016 14:38

backwardpossum you could also watch some YouTube videos for some basic makeup tips. Lisa Eldridgeis really good.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/08/2016 14:46

I've just had a horrible burny reaction to something, I'm hoping it's not the Nivea post shave balm as it's a minor miracle , I'm hoping it's the cheap face wash I risked!

StarkintheSouth · 05/08/2016 14:52

Kiehls moisturiser, Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser then Illamasqua creme pigment under the eyes for the hideous bags. Nars blusher then curled lashes with Lancome Hypnose mascara. That's basic every day and takes five minutes. If it's a special occasion I use Nars primer and a Laura Mercier finishing powder plus shadows and lippie from various.
Got my routine down to a fine art now!

Shakirawannabe · 05/08/2016 14:56

MAC concealer was my gold find

KittensWithWeapons · 05/08/2016 14:57

Ooh, I love a good make-up thread. For me it's YSL Touché Éclat primer, Dior Diorskin Forever foundation, Mac Warm Neutrals eyeshadow palette, Urban Decay Brow Box, Mac Faux lipstick, Diorshow Blackout mascara, and whatever kohl eyeliner I happen to pick up. Sounds like a lot but it literally takes me 10 minutes to do my make-up. Oh, and good brushes. Good brushes are vital! They make it so much easier.

backwardpossom · 05/08/2016 15:20

Thanks Cheesy - I see you can book a Boots No7 one online (saves me a trek to the city, we have a big Boots in town that does them)... I think I'll do that first :)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/08/2016 15:32

I loved my no 7 color foundation but it lasts about 30 mind on my skin Sad

Bookcat · 05/08/2016 16:26

Johnsons wipes for sensitive skin
E45 cream
Elizabeth Arden lip balm (amazing!)

Quite like having my make up done but don't wear it very often at all.

MermaidTears · 05/08/2016 22:49

My eyebrows are tattooed on so don't need doing. everyday makeup Clinique black honey lipstick/gloss, MAC mascara, Benefit blush!

GloveBug · 07/08/2016 11:48

Managed to find a copy of Glamour magazine yesterday (after looking in 4 different shops). The Gimme Brow is a third of the size of the one you buy in the shops but still at £2 that's a bargain (£18.50 for full size). They only seem to be giving away 2 out of the 3 shades though. The tube mascara from Amazon also arrived yesterday and I'm loving it Smile
Thanks all for the suggestions and tips
