To ask what your essential every day make-up products are

I've never done anything with my eyebrows (except pluck/wax) until Monday this week when I decided to try a tinted eyebrow gel. I 've been using it every day since and can't believe the difference it makes (my eyebrows are very light). I feel I've been missing out for years! My daily make up routine is very basic and consists of moisturiser, light foundation, mascara and a bit of blusher. So, I want to know, what other products have I been 'missing out on'? Grin

Primer (usually Borjois)
Bare Minerals foundation
Benefit tinted eye brow gel
Mascara
Blusher
Highlighter
Lipstick (nude shade during the day, something bolder for a night out)

RuggerHug · 04/08/2016 22:21

Urban decay brow box and far too much eyeliner for not being in the 80s Grin

mixety · 04/08/2016 22:36

On good skin days / not-doing-much days I'll just wear mascara and tinted lip balm.

Most days for work I wear:

Bare minerals powder foundation, number 7 stick concealer on blemishes, blusher (any), Hema waterproof dark brown eyeliner under the eyes, mascara, fill in my eyebrows, and a max factor 24hr lip stain.

If I'm going out I might add eyeshadow and gel eyeliner on my kids.

Have never got into highlighting/contouring etc.

I'd love to have the confidence to not wear make up for work. But I am extremely pale and sometimes prone to spots, which look so red on my pale skin! My eyelashes and brows are very blonde, and lips v pale too. I just feel much better with a bit of basic make up on.

SalemSaberhagen · 04/08/2016 22:40

I know it's a typo mixety, but this made me laugh

If I'm going out I might add eyeshadow and gel eyeliner on my kids

mixety · 04/08/2016 22:47

All my kids are forced to wear gel eyeliner in their assigned colour Wink

Gwenci · 04/08/2016 22:57

When I read your title OP I came on to say 'you won't believe what a different eyebrow pencil makes!!!' so I was pleased to see that was your point! I didn't find out how amazing it is until it was used on me for my wedding day. Sigh. All those missed years!

Not a product but a top tip - gently!!! heat your eyelash curlers with your hair dryer before curling your lashes. Makes them super curled and more likely to stay that way.

And primer. Love a primer.

GloveBug · 05/08/2016 01:02

Wow U2 that's a big list! Wobbly it's Benefit brow gel.
Thanks all for your suggestions - think I'll be off to the shops tomorrow Grin

Definitely going to get a primer and lipstick. Going to check out the tube mascara too. Where can you buy it? I don't think I've ever seen it before. Would like to try eye liner but I don't really know how to apply it Blush

Eyebrow powder and a Mac slanted brush to fill I my very sparse eyebrows.
Mascara (max factor usually)
Revlon colourstay foundation
Rimmel hide the blemish
Maybelline colour tattoo eyeshadow in bad to the bronze and nyx eyeshadow in smokey mountain
Bronzer (not fussed which one as long as it's not glittery
Sleek blush palette in Lace
Mac mehr lipstick or just a plain lip salve

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 05/08/2016 01:37

OP, try the Maybelline Master Precise eyeliner pen - it's so easy to work with I could do it without a mirror (almost).

GloveBug · 05/08/2016 01:40

Thanks Venellope Smile

Can I ask, why do people wear so much make up? Why do people say they won't leave the house without it, for example? I come from a background where we just don't. I do wear mascara for work, maybe a bit of lumpy, but I am not fussed and can go weeks without wearing ny. When I moved to England I even turned to my husband and said I guess I had better learn how to apply make up then! The younger girls at work wear loads, even eyelashes and I dint get it as they are much prettier without. And would have much healthier skin without it! And less spots!

DailyFaily · 05/08/2016 02:02

My staples are Clarins tinted moisturiser, benetint on my cheeks and mascara. It's all pretty light and i'm pale as a ghost without anything. I've recently started using the benefit eyebrow things (my eyebrows are vastly over plucked) - not sure I've completely got the hang yet, my seven year old asked why my eye brows were so big the other day (with a slight look of fear on his face!)

WanderingNotLost · 05/08/2016 02:03

Everyday make-up consists of:

Aveeno moisturiser
Benefit pore-fessional primer (fab stuff and lasts bloody ages!)
Rimmel eyeliner
Barry M dazzle dust eyeshadow
Rimmel eyebrow pencil
Benefit Gimme Brow gel
Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation (amazing)
Bourjois bronzer (in summer)
Bourjois blusher
Collection 2000 concealer (really good and so cheap!)
Max Factor false lash effect fusion mascara
Carmex tinted lip balm- can't leave the house without it

Going out- pretty much the same, but with Benefit Coralista blusher, Benefit High Beam highlighter, MAC lip liner and Chanel Rouge lipstick. Finish off with a light mist of Urban Decay fixing spray

Make-up tip- rub some pressed powder on the side of your index finger and then rub onto your eyelashes. Leave a minute or so and then apply mascara. It makes your lashes look so much thicker, and your mascara won't clump up Grin

Another tip- pop your mascara in your bra for a couple of minutes before you apply. It will warm the formula up and make it go on much more smoothly Grin

Bobochic · 05/08/2016 02:16

I wear less and less make-up as the years go by, but tinted eyebrow gel and dyed eyelashes are a must. I mostly wear a brown/gold cream eyeshadow and some mascara, and always use bronzing powder, lip liner and lipstick.

CakeNinja · 05/08/2016 02:25

Nothing!
Most days not even moisturiser - maybe once a week.
I have a normal face with dark brows which I pluck once a month maybe to keep tidy but I never got into makeup ever.
Lots of my friends wear it, some of them too much IMO (not that I would ever ever say anything) but I would like to be able to put some one and feel different in the evenings if I'm going out. The reality is, I have no idea where to start, my face looks like a normal human face generally so I don't feel like I need to start now, but if I didn't need to buy a minimum of 10 different products to achieve 'the basics', I wouldn't be averse to wearing makeup now!

coolaschmoola · 05/08/2016 02:59

Work:

Benefit Hello Flawless powder
Bourjois eye shadow
Avon eyeliner pen thingy
Benefit They're Real mascara

Bourjois lip goop.

avamiah · 05/08/2016 03:32

TheCatAteMyHomework · 05/08/2016 04:58

Jesus wept

SalemSaberhagen · 05/08/2016 06:53

Why do you say that, thecat?

WaitrosePigeon · 05/08/2016 06:57

Bare Minerals.

RestlessTraveller · 05/08/2016 07:07

The thing is women who wear make-up usually don't care whether other women wear it or not. Women who don't wear make-up tend to always have an opinion on those that do.

soyvanillalatte · 05/08/2016 07:09

glovebug that's the one I have! Excellent. The only problem is it doesn't come with instructions.

I have bits of makeup but it doesn't mean I wear a lot. I'm sure it's the same for a lot of us. I just wear a light amount of what I do have but do like to wear sheer foundation, some concealer , blush, mascara and lipstick as the basics. I wear it because I am in my 50s and need a bit of evening out and colour.

Bettydownthehall · 05/08/2016 07:15

I have fair hair and penciled on my eye brows every day.

Now I have them threaded and tinted and can't believe how much better they look. So neat and much thicker. Honestly the best thing I have done beauty wise.

Cheesymonster · 05/08/2016 07:20

Maybelline matte and poreless foundation
Maybelline fit me concealer
Benefit loose powder
Max factor cream eyeshadow
L'Oreal brow powder
Soap and glory liquid liner
Rimmel lash accelerator mascara
bourjois blusher
Lip balm or if I remember, Mac patisserie lipstick

Written down it looks a lot. It doesn't take long and I don't top up during the day. If I was in a rush I would just slap on garnier BB cream, mascara and fill in brows and leave it at that.
