To potentially make DH very ill?

I realise there is a similar themed thread here, must be food hygiene day.

Anyway, I cooked a chicken on Thursday afternoon. Switched the oven off when it was ready and left it in there (one of those cook in the bag ALDI special bad boys).

We went away for the weekend and I totally forgot about it until now.

AIBU to test it on DH to see if it's edible? DH things it probably is, so is sort of consenting. He's also left his bastarding socks on the floor next to the laundry basket again, for me to collect and wash presumably. As such, I feel his life is expendable at the moment.

No don't let him eat it! He will spend tonight in the toilet with terrible diorrea, stinking the place out and vomitting everywhere.

You don't need that.

Sleepybunny · 31/07/2016 21:12

He's cut open the bag and sniffed. Says it smells fine. I can't tell because it's got garlic or seasoning of some sort on it, but it doesn't have a smell of death about or anything.
DH is still adamant it's edible, he's seriously going to have a bit in a sandwich! I thought it was a bit gross, but the replies are worrying me now.

Just put it in the bin before he's silly enough to try eating it.

You could end up with a lot worse than socks on the floor if he eats it.

OnionKnight · 31/07/2016 21:13

It's going to be coming back out via both ends.

Your DH is an idiot.

Sillybillybonker · 31/07/2016 21:14

You are both crazy.

Sleepybunny · 31/07/2016 21:15

FYI I have a non sleeping grumpy teething baby and a toddler who thinks 4am is an acceptable time to undress and run around the house naked. Hence 3 day fermented chicken in a bag.

Hahaha reminds me of Homer Simpson and his 10-foot sandwich.

EarthboundMisfit · 31/07/2016 21:16

Oh wow, no. Bin it.

Cguk81 · 31/07/2016 21:20

Oh no, I definitely wouldn't eat it and I'm usually pretty relaxed about that kind of thing. Straight in the bin.

flanjabelle · 31/07/2016 21:20

Oh holy fuck no. Stop him! Jesus you have married an idiot.

snowgirl29 · 31/07/2016 21:20

Eeek. Left out over an entire weekend? No way. He'll be throwing his insides up.

A deserving clip round the ear for leaving his bastarding socks near the washing basket is definitely justified though. Wink

Energumene · 31/07/2016 21:21

It's a common misconception that all food borne nasties are killed during cooking. But there are some that defy that and can thus multiply after cooking is over, especially when left in a warm, moist environment, such as a roasting bag at room temperature in summer.

He might get away with eating a little bit if he is a)lucky and b)has a superhuman immune system, but I have evil stalker exes I wouldn't feed that chicken to.

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 31/07/2016 21:22

I'm finding this car-crash fascinating. Will leave when he starts to puke though.

Sleepybunny · 31/07/2016 21:22

He's eaten it.

Not place marking

Gabilan · 31/07/2016 21:22

According to Livestrong.com:

You can't tell whether chicken leftovers have dangerous bacterial growth by looking at, smelling or tasting them. Salmonella and other bacteria that cause food poisoning are called pathogenic bacteria, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Bacteria that affect the taste, smell or appearance of food are called spoilage bacteria. For example, if your chicken leftovers develop a bad odor, they probably have spoilage bacteria. Spoilage bacteria probably won't make you sick, but undetectable pathogenic bacteria can make you very sick

So smelling it to check won't work. And they were saying 3 days refrigerated, not 3 days in summer heat.

ShockShock

grumpysquash3 · 31/07/2016 21:22

Your DH has a point. If it was cooked (properly) in the bag and the bag not opened, it probably is sterile. No bacteria can get it to spoil the meat.
I would eat it. I would feed it to your DH :)

ample · 31/07/2016 21:23

I wouldn't. I wouldn't' pick up the socks either.

grumpysquash3 · 31/07/2016 21:23

No bacteria can get in

SoupDragon · 31/07/2016 21:24

Do you have a dog or cat you could show it to? We used to show suspect meat at our cat. If it ate it we figured it was safe for people.

My dog eats cat sick, cat shit and licks his arse. I don't trust his judgement.

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 31/07/2016 21:24

But what about the bacteria already in there?

lovelilies · 31/07/2016 21:24

Crikey. I hope he has guts of steel and doesn't actually get really ill Confused

Gabilan · 31/07/2016 21:24

I have an ex I would feed it to. I don't like him much.

icanteven · 31/07/2016 21:24

We'll certainly have an update in the morning, one way or another!

But more importantly, leave the damn socks. You're not a maid.
