To potentially make DH very ill?

I realise there is a similar themed thread here, must be food hygiene day.

Anyway, I cooked a chicken on Thursday afternoon. Switched the oven off when it was ready and left it in there (one of those cook in the bag ALDI special bad boys).

We went away for the weekend and I totally forgot about it until now.

AIBU to test it on DH to see if it's edible? DH things it probably is, so is sort of consenting. He's also left his bastarding socks on the floor next to the laundry basket again, for me to collect and wash presumably. As such, I feel his life is expendable at the moment.

I wouldn't feed it to my dog. And he eats raw pig testicles......

LotisBlue · 02/08/2016 08:45

Do you have more than one bathroom in the house? If so I'd make your dh use a separate one to the rest of the family.

emotionsecho · 02/08/2016 10:39

My dh had food poisoning when we were on holiday, it wasn't fun but the odd conversation he had with the doctor when he was delirious was.

lljkk · 02/08/2016 12:01

I'm glad he's pretty much fine, OP. :)

Absofrigginlootly · 02/08/2016 13:13

So have you thrown out the contents of the fridge and bleached it down?!

Your DH might only suffer mild symptoms but your young DC might not be so lucky - their immune systems are not so robust. Hence why I said he must not feed hen or change nappies until 48 hours after his last episode of diarrhoea.

He should also stay away from work until 48 hours afterwards too. Oh well, let's just hope he has surgical levels of hand hygiene and doesn't pass it onto a work colleague with a compromised immune system/sick child at home/etc etc.... people are so selfish

Absofrigginlootly · 02/08/2016 13:19

also more convinced than ever this isn't real after your last reply

BananaThePoet · 02/08/2016 13:41

The symptoms of food poisoning usually begin within one to two days of eating contaminated food, although they may start at any point between a few hours and several weeks later.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/Food-poisoning/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Several weeks later. Not out of the woods yet.

tiggerkid · 02/08/2016 14:10

I'd be inclined to bin it rather than ask someone to try it. Bin his socks as well while you are at it :)

Sleepybunny · 02/08/2016 14:48

Why should I be bleaching down the fridge!? He put the damn thing in there rather than binning when he was tidying up after his sandwich.

OP posts:
bobbinpop · 02/08/2016 15:36

I think the fridge needs to be cleaned to remove the bacteria and avoid cross-contamination of other (especially ones eaten raw) foods. Your OH can't do it if he has suspected food poisoning, as he can't handle food/clean as he may spread infection too.

TaraCarter · 02/08/2016 16:09

A) Your husband has had diarrhoea within the last 48 hours, so he can't do it.
B) Your husband is out and this is an urgent job if you want to prepare bacteria-free meals for the kids before he gets back.
C) If your husband could do it, it would still require someone to do the cleaning properly, i.e. someone who agrees it's necessary. This excludes your husband. To be fair, you're not coming across as fully committed to the role either, but you're the best candidate on the day, and it's a time-sensitive role.

TimeforaNNChange · 02/08/2016 16:16

Why should I be bleaching down the fridge!? He put the damn thing in there rather than binning when he was tidying up after his sandwich.

And this is why I don't eat cakes/buffet/dishes donated to charity events at schools, fetes, or fundraising evenings.
Very few people know, grasp the significance, or understand the value, of basic food safety procedures.

Doublemint · 02/08/2016 16:42

Bleach the shit out of everything op! Or just saved time and douse your DP with the stuff.
This thread is brilliant

Absofrigginlootly · 02/08/2016 17:17

Why should I be bleaching down the fridge!?

Because I don't think the cleaning fairies are going to do it for you and at least one of you should now act like a responsible parent Hmm Confused

BerylStreep · 02/08/2016 17:47

This is annoying me. Yes I am being unreasonable but I feel the op is trying to make her DH sound like a bit of a buffoon when actually he sounds like a complete dick.

Do you think the OP might be married to BoJo?

Sleepybunny · 02/08/2016 19:12

Ok point taken and fridge cleaned. He's in the house though! Touching stuff, obviously!

Lazy shit is delighted MN have essentially got him off with doing the cleaning.

BurningBridges · 02/08/2016 19:17

I asked earlier in the thread why this was funny and I am still waiting to get an explanation. OP why did you post about it? Can I assume you were sharing a joke or a story about what wanker your DH is? Someone said a few posts back about it not being the poor OP's fault and we should be cross with her - um, how would it be if it was full scale food poisoning and he'd gone to hospital and expected the NHS to sort out his stupidity?

2kids2dogsnosense · 02/08/2016 19:40

Anything iffy in this house i offer to the cat - if he won't touch it, nor do we.

on the other hand, if he's left his bastarding socks . . . but no - you'd be the one cleaning up the poo and puke while you were waiting for the ambulance. Not worth it.

2kids2dogsnosense · 02/08/2016 19:42

Hang on Sleepybunny - did you say he was tidying up after his sammich? He can't be all bad, then . . .

PickAChew · 02/08/2016 19:43

I can't understand why op didn't simply cringe and chuck the damned thing straight in the dust bin, on first discovery, tbh. I'd have chucked it in with nappies, for good measure.

I also don't understand why people leave things on the oven "to cool down". My oven stays hot forhours, never mind anythingin it.

Timetogrowup2016 · 02/08/2016 20:36

I'm relaxed on food hygiene rules but god no to this.

Overnight yes.
In the fridge for three days yes.
This no no no no no

Sleepybunny · 02/08/2016 21:01

Sincerest apologies Burningbridges that you have not received a full explanation as to why the subject matter is not funny.
I posted about this interesting topic, purely because I wanted to. I was BFing and had time to kill. Isn't the Internet a marvellous thing, where we're free to swap ideas and opinions in this way. Truly a wonder.

OP posts:
Doublemint · 02/08/2016 22:04

I think it is quite interesting, learning a few new things about bacteria and bug types. Also about how sterile things are or are not.

But what I'm finding the most interesting is the emerging possibility that OPs DH may be some kind of superhuman.

Everydays a school day!

TaraCarter · 02/08/2016 22:13

Very educational. For one, I now "get", as the vernacular has it, why so many other MNers have commented (MN threads passim) that they never eat homebaked goods at school fairs.

Your posts have been most illuminating, most.

TaraCarter · 02/08/2016 22:16

The above in not directed at you, Doublemint. AFAIK, you haven't posted anything particularly disgusting.
