Wrist tattoos with your name...

AIBU to think that having a wrist tattoo with your own name/initials is pretty pointless? Why? Is it incase you forget who you are? Genuinely confused by these. Confused

YANBU, it's wank

KC225 · 31/07/2016 11:54

Gosh, never given tongue piercings and enamel knocking a thought. Next I see one, that is what I'll be thinking guaranteed.

insancerre · 31/07/2016 11:55

I didn't find beyond's post beyond the pale
Beyond didn't say that the tattoo was the only way her friend could be recognised either
Black humour is very well recognised as a way of coping with difficult situations and lots of professional such as the armed forces, doctors, fire fighters and others on the front line use it because they deal with difficult traumatic events much more than they would normally do if they didn't do those jobs

zoobeedoo · 31/07/2016 12:01

Insancerre I took it to be black humour too, very likely something I would write in a similar situation

Jengnr · 31/07/2016 12:36

My mate has her name on her wrist, it's an ambigram. The other way up it says her husband's. He has a matching one. They're cool.

I'm planning on getting a tree with four flowers on to represent me, the husband and the kids. I like that better than names.

gruffalo13 · 31/07/2016 12:43

I'm not a fan of the children's names tattooed on.

We saw quite a few on our last resort holiday. Mikaylah-Jayde and Anakin-Blayze were a notable pair.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2016 12:47

Oh yeah, I imagine tongue piercing wrecks your teeth, doubt there's any dentists that like them.

KC225 · 31/07/2016 12:47

Gufalo13

I think I backed that second one in the Grand National

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 31/07/2016 12:59

I have tattoos to resemble my DCs - not their names, but symbols of their names (where we got their names from)

I dont have DH's name and I honestly dont think I will. Never thought of my own name though.

My wrist has a star with angel wings on it.

flibbidygibbet · 31/07/2016 13:27

So sorry Beyond. I didn't find it awful. Just a friend expressing unimaginable grief. Flowers

MozzieRocks · 31/07/2016 14:05

So sorry Beyond

Heatherplant · 31/07/2016 14:19

Beyond - grief is a very individual thing and it's not for anybody else to judge. Sorry for your loss Flowers
I'm tattooed but there are some styles I really don't get, names being one. Unsupervised child making a nuisance of himself in the local supermarket the other day was eventually collected by his 'parent' who had the little darlings name in dodgy script over her wrist.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2016 14:55

That, with bells on!

Potentialmadcatlady · 31/07/2016 15:35

It's likely that I will lose one of my kids before I should...if I do I have promised that I will get another tattoo with some ashes of the child mixed in.. The child regular changes their mind about what the tattoo should be and the sibling wants a matching one when old enough if the worst does happen...I see it as a way of always having the child with me... My humour is very dark at times thanks to living with it every day..

zoobeedoo · 31/07/2016 16:49

Cat lady that's awful, I'm so sorry to hear that. A lifegem is another unusual memorial, I have one which is my most treasured possession

Potentialmadcatlady · 31/07/2016 16:55

Zoobeedoo...I'm sorry that you had to get a life gem...I have heard of them too...the tattoo is something that we talk about often...we all have a dark sense of humour and our way of coping with our potential loss is to make light of it...the child often says what he wants to happen etc..he's the sort who would want his ashes on the kitchen table at Christmas with a Christmas hat on top ...some of the ideas for 'his' tattoo are hilarious but I can't put them on here because they will be too identifying...very dark, very witty and very very 'him'...

zoobeedoo · 31/07/2016 17:10

He sounds great, a real character. How old is he, if you don't mind me asking?

Potentialmadcatlady · 31/07/2016 17:38

Oh he's a character alright...very dry witty dark sense of humour and honest as the day is long...he very vocal about his opinions and I have encouraged that to make sure he trusts me 1110% so we can work together on medical things..he's mid teens so very aware what's going on and will soon be able to make his own medical decisions..the idea of the tattoo is very important to us all so he 'stays with me always'...( he has also made me promise to give his eulogy if it comes to it- no idea how I will get through that one but I will if I need too)
Anyway don't want to derail the thread just wanted Beyond to know I understood her humour/post...

thebakerwithboobs · 31/07/2016 17:44

I have my husband's initials on my wrist. I'm guessing you wouldn't like it but I don't really care if other people like it. I have never even asked my husband if he likes it! I like it. I'm a bit confused as to why anyone would give so much thought to something other people do that don't effect them in the slightest?

zoobeedoo · 31/07/2016 18:10

I think we may have very similar stories, although I am older sibling, not mum. I have a huge back tattoo which I told him I was getting, took me a few years to go through with it but very worthwhile. I also have a large hip tattoo for my wee boy, which he loves, and my boyfriends name in a heart on my butcheek Smile

Potentialmadcatlady · 31/07/2016 18:33

I'm sorry zoobeedoo for your loss.. I lost a sibling when I was young to same condition as teen... So been here before... I have one large but easy to hide tattoo... Teens one will be somewhere very obvious where I can see it everyday no matter how old and infexible I get... His sibling doesn't actually like tattoos but she has promised him she will get one to keep him with her too.. She also wants hers to be obvious but somewhere she can hide it if needed for her future career..Hopefully we never need them but I'm a bit of a realist..

Potentialmadcatlady · 31/07/2016 18:34

The one I already have was designed by my kids when they were little...

YourNewspaperIsShit · 31/07/2016 20:12

Yes getting your own name is a tad naff in my opinion, it's usually done when people simply don't really know what to get but would like a tattoo. It's a bit of a joke to tattooists etc when they get it upside down so they can read it Grin But each to their own!

I'm covered neck to ankle and obviously enjoy them very much, and what anyone else wants to do with their body has absolutely fuck all to do with me Smile Some people think mine are stunning and others want to know why on earth I'd get them... I don't answer anymore because I'm sick of explaining Blush

zoobeedoo · 31/07/2016 20:16

Catlady that is the shittest of circumstances, there are no words to do it justice. I hope you never get your next tattoo.

Moogerbooger · 01/08/2016 05:07

Catlady sorry to hear this. Hope that tattoo never happens

Thebaker- I never said I didn't like tattoos. I have tattoos. I just don't understand why people would get their OWN name tattooed on them but, as Yournewspaper said, perhaps it's because they want a tattoo and can't think of anything else to have. I just don't get it.
