Wrist tattoos with your name...

AIBU to think that having a wrist tattoo with your own name/initials is pretty pointless? Why? Is it incase you forget who you are? Genuinely confused by these. Confused

OP posts:

I love tattoos, but have to admit that I find having your own name tattooed a bit weird...but if it's what someone wants then good for them, it's their body and they can ink whatever they like on it.

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 31/07/2016 09:48

Thank you mskite and acasual, I think you interpreted it how it was meant.

I've asked mnhq if they can take the more identifying bits out of my first post btw, I don't want to potentially upset anyone.

Thanks

Ememem - do you have a picture of your swallows? I have been thinking about having a very small wrist tattoo for a while. I have had four pregnancy losses and feel increasingly that I want something to symbolise that. I have been thinking about birds or stars.

StarStudded · 31/07/2016 10:03

YABU, it's up to the individual what they have inked onto their skin- why does it bother you?

I have lots of tattoos, none of anyone's name because I prefer to have art and pictures- you could call them pointless as I could just hang a picture on my wall and look at that.

itfcbabe · 31/07/2016 10:07

I have my parents names on my wrists,my dad died when I was 20 and my mum when I was 24. I didn't want mum and dad so I had their names and will be getting the dates tattooed above soon.
I do have my name on the top of my arm,I was 18 and really liked the tattoo but it needed a name and as I was single I uses my name.

Also have my children's names on 3 different tattoos.

WanderingTrolley1 · 31/07/2016 10:14

Beyond, your comment is awful and unnecessary.

EsmeraldaEllaBella · 31/07/2016 10:14

Gosh stop bashing beyond people grieve however they want to Flowers

I've never seen tats like that? Is it a new thing?!

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 31/07/2016 10:18

Like this, boro?

Sorry op that I have unintentionally hijacked your thread and it's being taken over with comments about my post!!

AndroidAddict I'm not putting them off, just asking them to think carefully as once done, they are there for life. I'm probably meaning more like 'a drunken week in Magaluf at 18' sort of thing.

When I think of tattoos I think of my friends wedding. She looked beautiful walking towards the isle, but as she passed all I could focus on was the green tatt on her shoulder.

KC225 · 31/07/2016 10:36

It's the full sleeves I don't get. It's a huge commitment to a current trend. Slave bangles and Japanese symbols were the sleeve of the 90s and they look so tired and dated now.

I live in a country that has the highest amount of tattooed under 30s, according to an story in the in flight magazine. Even the airport has a tattoo parlour. It's all a bit dull nowadays.

Sorry OP, yes. I agree, unless you suffer from significant memory loss your own name is odd. Why treat your body like a toilet wall

Salmotrutta · 31/07/2016 10:41

Beyond - I read your post as being bitter and angry too. I'm so sorry about your friend.

Hotwaterbottle1 · 31/07/2016 10:45

Beyond I have just screenshot your tattoo, I love it, been looking for one & this feels symbolic!

I think name ones are a little strange.

BitchPerfect · 31/07/2016 10:46

Yes KC225, it is a trend. I appreciate some people put a lot of thought into tattoos than mean something personal and precious to them, but there's a lot who have tattoos because its the current trend.

It's like tongue piercings - don't they knock the enamel off the teeth? What are the long term health implications to the tongue, speech, teeth or gums?

Love wrist tattoos!!! Wish I had the guts to have one with DCs names on!

KittyKrap · 31/07/2016 10:51

I left my XH and changed my name legally back to my maiden name. I had the first letter tattooed onto my wrist (this was years ago). It helped give me strength that I was taking myself back.

zoobeedoo · 31/07/2016 10:56

Getting a tattoo can be very cathartic, especially if it's to mark a significant loss or a remembrance tattoo. It's almost a socially acceptable form of self harm. The pain/anger/hurt you have inside over a particular loss or incident is given an outlet through the pain of the tattoo (and yes it fucking hurts) and you genuinely feel a relief afterwards plus have a positive physical marker of moving forward. It might sound like bullshit, but for a lot of people it's genuine, me being one of them. I also have tattoos as tributes to loved ones still here and it's similar, it's like a vent for strong emotion that you are not so good at dealing with. I think this is why many people get addicted.

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 31/07/2016 10:57

It's not me, hotwater - I found the picture on Google :)
(I have cherry blossom up my arm Grin )

Thank you btw to people giving flowers and sympathy Flowers ❤️

(And kids names)

mummytime · 31/07/2016 11:41

Beyond - the only reason I could think was "in case they develop dementia" - so I get your dark humour. Maybe it's because I have also known people who were murdered, I think it should not be taboo to speak about even in a darkly humorous way.

Ememem84 · 31/07/2016 11:45

boro this is mine.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2016 11:47

Beyond- I didn't think your post was awful just sad and bitter, I would be the same if my friend had been murdered Flowers

ayeokthen · 31/07/2016 11:49

I don't think Beyond was trying to be disrespectful, when someone you care about is murdered it's the worst feeling in the whole world. Maybe being blunt is her way of coping? Until it's happened to you (it has happened to me, and it changes you as a person) you can't really know how you'd react.

Potentialmadcatlady · 31/07/2016 11:49

zoobeedoo..I completely agree with you
