to not put kisses at the end of my text messages?

My sister mentioned to me yesterday, in a slightly huffy tone, that I don't put kisses at the end of my text messages. Oh really, I said, I've never really thought about it. Does anyone? Yes they do, she said.

She's right. I checked on my phone and EVERYONE puts kisses on the end of their texts. Except me. Family, friends, work colleagues, even my NDN, on the one occasion when she texted me to ask if she could put some rubbish in my blue bin.

I honestly hadn't noticed. Now I'm aware of it I find I still can't usually be arsed remember. AIBU?

My hairdresser is self employed and mobile, no salon exists for me to call.

KittensForBreakfast · 29/07/2016 21:06

I seriously don't get this trend of putting X's at the end of every single message to everyone, unless it's to a significant other it's a pretty weird and often inappropriate thing to do!

Boogers · 29/07/2016 21:11

I put a kiss or two in text messages to my friends, usually reciprocal, and I put a kiss and a smiley face when I wish someone happy birthday on Facebook, but other than that I don't use them. Had a blazing argument with my sister several years ago (which ended in me going non contact with her) and my lack of kisses in text messages was one of the many things she brought up as not showing respect to her! Hmm

Overthinker2016 · 29/07/2016 21:13

Nah, only my boy, my mum and a very close friend get them.

Mr Elbows went round to his mate's the other night where he found mate and Mrs mate having a huge marital because mate had a text on his phone from a woman with xxx at the end. Mate is a mechanic and woman is a client. Mrs mate was beside herself. Inappropriate xxxers think on!

I only put x if I would potentially kiss them in person.

So, for friends and family members, I suppose.

TheRealKimmySchmidt63 · 29/07/2016 21:52

YABVU xx💋💋

TheRealKimmySchmidt63 · 29/07/2016 21:53

I find it annoying too- nothing wrong with a good old full stop.

janethegirl2 · 29/07/2016 21:55

I only put kisses at the end of test messages to immediate family. If I did this for work colleagues, it is so not professional

winkywinkola · 29/07/2016 22:04

I don't either. To anyone.

icy121 · 29/07/2016 22:08

My cleaners latest garbled text ended "😘Xxx"

janethegirl2 · 29/07/2016 22:10

Some people are just fuckwits.

Sallystyle · 29/07/2016 22:13

DH, mum, MIL, sisters and close friend get kisses.

Although if someone ends a text with a kiss I feel like I have to do it back.

Sallystyle · 29/07/2016 22:17

I just looked and yes, my hairdresser does it and I do it back.

dudsville · 29/07/2016 22:18

I've nerver kissed in a text, to anyone, it's just not natural for me. I'm so used to seeing it from others I don't really see it anymore iyswim.

Ellieboolou27 · 29/07/2016 22:22

I do to family close friends, it used to be a sign that you'd pissed someone off if you didn't sign off with a x so I think that's why it's stuck with so many, it's almost like a habit now.

LazySusan11 · 29/07/2016 22:30

I put xx at the end of a conversion with dh, other than that I tend to use a full stop and ignore the liberal kisses from others who text me.

cardibach · 29/07/2016 22:31

I don't do kisses on texts and of all me friends, family and associated contacts only one friend (sometimes) does.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 29/07/2016 23:48

I always think "Stop kissing me!!!" when random people put those kisses at the end of messages online.

WanderingNotLost · 29/07/2016 23:52

I do with most people. I've also been known to accidentally put kisses on emails to colleagues Blush

ArnoldRimmerBSc · 30/07/2016 07:13

In the early days of texting, I remember thinking for ages that an acquaintance must have a very unusual surname that began with an x as he always signed off jx.

Nowadays, I only add a kiss if someone puts kisses in their message to me.
