To think the nanny in the 3 day nanny shouldn't have given a small child salt to play with

I watched the 3 day nanny last night and normally I agree with a lot of her values such as giving your child freedom, letting them roam etc but was shocked to see her give two shall children ( boys aged 2 and 3) a salt shaker to play with in the garden.

Salt can be lethal to small children and sometimes 6 grams can be a fatal dose.

I'm a very relaxed parent normally but this made me a little uncomfortable.

Obviously the boys came to no harm although one did try to eat the salt but it may lead to people allowing children to play with salt which can be dangerous.

Am I being ridiculous?

I didn't watch the show but to be honest it sounds like a strange thing to give the kids to play with, if it had salt in it.

Also I would think that people would like to discourage kids from playing with salt shakers as the last thing you want is them playing with the salt shakers at the table in a restaurant.

I didn't watch it but it's certainly an odd thing to give them! Was there a grinder on the bottom too? The more I think about it, it's a pretty bad decision Grin.

I think I watched it (I watched some sort of emergency nanny programme) I didn't see the salt shaker bit but I did think shutting a toddler in their room alone for 20 mins was OTT.

A bit odd to give them that, but I doubt a young child would eat any more salt on its own after the first taste?

The salt shaker bit is when the kids are playing outside! The mums comments because the child is tasting the salt and the nanny basically says she worries too much!!

YANBU, I would have thought they would teach them the danger in nanny school. I've seen salt poisoning in animals...not nice.

It was an odd thing to give them, I'm not sure what she expected them to do with it.

scottishegg · 28/07/2016 18:29

I didn't get that either it was a water activity!!

Yes, I didn't like the bit where she shut the toddler in the room by himself for 20 minutes.

I missed the salt but I thought she was a bit too relaxed in the park. My little girl needs constant supervisor in the park to stop her from running in front of swings and jumping off the top of the fireman's pole bit on the climbing frame!
