Bud or buddy
Exh calls DS this drives me potty

rainchancer · 27/07/2016 10:36

"Mate" always used to be a term used when talking about someone, now it's used to address people.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 27/07/2016 10:36

I hear ya dawg.

mummytofourbabys · 27/07/2016 10:36

This reminds me of the time my teen was going to work and as she was walking down our street, met DD2 (aged 10) coming the other way with a lad in her class. As they passed, DD2 fist bumped her big sister and said 'alright bro?'. We presume she was trying to impress the boy from her class. It was extremely funny.

Teen starts calling me 'mate' if she calls me when with her friends. I get baffled and wonder if she's talking to me or her friends.

HighwayDragon1 · 27/07/2016 10:46

I 'hun' everyone 😶 it's really un-mny of me I know.

Heavens2Betsy · 27/07/2016 10:54

Hubby / Wifey
Its my pet hate, just sounds so twee and smug and bleugh

MadisonMontgomery · 27/07/2016 10:57

One of my cousins always calls me Cousin Madison or just Cousin - I hate it, why on earth he can't just use my name like everyone else I don't know.

polyhymnia · 27/07/2016 10:57

Yes, I loathe 'hubby' too. Too twee/ naff, as you say. Sets my teeth on edge.As for 'wifey', does anyone actually say that except in jest?

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 27/07/2016 10:59

My two youngest are apparently a squad. Demolition squad. Evil spawns.

Careforadrink · 27/07/2016 11:01

I like cuz. It's been around forever

Squad is a bit cringe though

Heavens2Betsy · 27/07/2016 11:03

Poly
My brother and sister in law do
"Put the kettle on wifey"
"I'll do it later hubby"
I struggle not to retch!!!

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 27/07/2016 11:04

I can't stand 'sis', especially when it's used by women towards another woman who isn't actually their sister. I also hate it when those weekly disaster magazines use it in their stories.

DH is a member of a metalcore/death metal group on Facebook, where all the 'guys' there address each other as 'brother' and 'bro'. I mock him relentlessly for it Grin

amusedbush · 27/07/2016 11:35

Calling your cousin 'cuz' is soooo cringey, I can't stand it!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 27/07/2016 11:38

'a bit cringe' is in itself a bit of a rubbish expression for describing something one finds not to one's taste .

Each to their own though.

Just to add my two bob's worth:
Hun
Babe
Hubby
Mama.

CatThiefKeith · 27/07/2016 11:44

I'm guilty of Babe sometimes. Blush

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 27/07/2016 11:47

Hubby/hubster/husbie/hubbles/husbito (!) all make me cringe. Although I am guilty of calling my husband 'DH' to his face Grin

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 27/07/2016 11:47

Cat Grin, as I said ; each to their own , it's just something I can't get my head around.

Cocolepew · 27/07/2016 11:50

I was on a guided tour yesterday and the guide kept calling us pilgrims Confused

WhooooAmI24601 · 27/07/2016 11:50

I despise "hunni". Only one person I know in real life uses it, and she's just amazing. But I want to titpunch her into next week when I hear it come out of her mouth.

ReginaBlitz · 27/07/2016 11:54

Same here fam.

HooseRice · 27/07/2016 11:58

My dad went through a phase of calling his mates his possé.

Do I win the thread?

Grin at Posse

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 27/07/2016 15:12

Oh fuck NO to 'hunni' - I absolutely detest it. It's not even a shortening of 'honey'. All it does is make the person writing it look bloody dense. DH used to write it like that, he said it was a colloquialism and more affectionate. I told him he was talking out of his arse. It actually makes me quite angry - I probably need to get a grip Wink
