To ask what the weirdest thing you've done while sleep deprived is? *lighthearted*

Almost all of us have been there, haven't we? You've been up all night with the DC and in the haze of being utterly knackered, done something strange.
I'm currently up with DS2 (9 weeks) and on my way to the kitchen to get a drink I walked smack into the door frame.
Yesterday the chap who came to read our gas/electricity meters asked if he could have a quick cold drink as it was so hot out. He looked fairly surprised to be offered a nicely chilled bottle of expressed breast milk. Quickly realised my mistake and offered him a can of Fanta as an alternative.
So what's the most bizarre/funniest thing you've done while running on very little sleep?

Another newborn one....not being able to go too close to people as their giant heads freaked me out. It was because I spent so much time looking at DD and her tiny little face, mixed with the sleep deprivation making me hallucinate.

MotherOfGlob · 23/07/2016 22:24

I know Boop, I could have kicked myself Angry

Bananacabana · 23/07/2016 22:29

Brilliant posts, been crying with laughter.

I keep my make-up bag in the bathroom and one afternoon, I went to put a little make-up on only to find I'd stored our car keys in the bag. I would never have found them if I'd actually tried to look for them. Sadly I wasn't surprised at what I'd done.

Waltzed into my bedroom singing to myself forgetting I have a baby, I was very surprised to see DS2 sleeping in his cot. Felt very, very guilty!

Rang and text people on a few occasions convinced it was a reasonable hour because I'd been awake a long time only to realise it was before 6 a.m

I'm sure there are more but I am too tired to remember at the moment.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/07/2016 22:34

Very impressed by the person who couldn't remember if she had had the baby or not!

popmimiboo · 23/07/2016 22:37

Dashed (cause I was always dashing) into the dining room with bib for baby. Tied bib around 8 year old's neck -wondered why everyone looked so bemused!

Stanleysmum01 · 23/07/2016 22:41

Took 2 soothers out of the steriliser promptly stuffed one into my mum's mouth mid sentence and the other into my ds!

DropYourSword · 23/07/2016 22:46

I have also tried to mute my newborn with a remote and been exceptionally confused why the noise was continuing.
I also seemed to have forgotten how to walk at one point. I could not manage to get to the bathroom, kept listing to the side and bumping into things. The first 8 weeks were sleep deprived hell!

Wastinmylifeaway · 23/07/2016 22:46

Stood at front door hitting the car door / key ring button thing (gosh I'm tired now!! Don't know right words) and wonder why front door doesn't open

PickledLilly · 23/07/2016 23:45

rare quiet moment on the sofa with our very docile cat on my lap, picked her up, tipped her into a cradle hold, stroked her head a few times whilst I looked down at her face, it was only as I started lifting my top to start feeding that I remembered it was the stu was holding not the baby...

PickledLilly · 23/07/2016 23:45

cat even

innocentinfamy · 24/07/2016 05:37

Can hardly read these for tears and have gone full Muttley laugh! Grin

TheoriginalLEM · 24/07/2016 08:31

Argued the toss with GP over dd1's birthday - he was right!

Answered the door in one of DP's ripped t shirts - not aware that ny breast was hanging out. I didn't notice until i came back inside.

Went to leave the house naked fromnthe waist down.

Was asked by my boss to hand him something he needed for a procedure. Went off and made him a cup of tea. This was pre menstrual rather than sleep deprived.

The other day we were trying to get dd1 who is 8 weeks a dummy to give me a break from the 6 hour cluster feed she was doing, Dp walked towards with the dummy in hand and I opened my Mouth take it, funny thing is Dp nearly popped it in! We did laugh, then took baby to bed Grin

bluelle · 24/07/2016 10:43

To take a dummy that should say! Clearly still tired Confused

Subatomickitten · 24/07/2016 11:21

I lost a whole day, it was really frightening! I was staying with my Ddad and DSM following a nasty virus (me) and non sleeping DS, I said bye to DSM as she left for work, went upstairs to get DS, came back downstairs and saw her coming back through the door, I asked her if she has forgotten something and she looked at me like this Confused and said no, I'm home now. I lost 7 hours that day and was distraught, DS seemed happy enough, clean and not hungry but I have no idea what happened in the time she was at work, really odd feeling!

ClockBusCanada · 24/07/2016 14:38

I hallucinated a beautiful and intricate tiny mechanical fun fair spread out all over our back garden. I knew it wasn't real, but I could definitely see it. And that was when I decided it was probably best to lay off the driving for a bit.

Also completely lost the ability to form words mid-sentence in a few conversations around that time, too.

Rainbunny · 24/07/2016 19:30

After a long intense week of exams for my graduate degree I finally made it home and tried to open my front door. I stood there for about five minutes not understanding why my key wasn't working. It finally dawned on me that I was trying to open my door by pressing my car key remote!

MarklahMarklah · 24/07/2016 22:22

When DD was tiny and I was sleep deprived I remember gently wheeling the supermarket trolley backwards and forward making shushing noises. DD was asleep in the car, DH had dropped me off at the shop.

honeylulu · 24/07/2016 23:24

Popped out the front if house to put nappy bag in the outside bin. Took keys as I can't get back in if the door slams.Threw the keys in the bin instead of nappy, which I than had to retrieve from the stinking bin full of nappies and other rotten horrible stuff. Even worse, I have now done that twice.

honeylulu · 24/07/2016 23:25

I also left my first baby in the Body Shop when he was four days I'd. I only realised something was wrong because I didn't have my handbag (which is stashed in the pushchair).

BoopTheSnoot · 25/07/2016 19:04

I've been really belly laughing at some of these! It's so nice to know it's not just me who goes weird when excessively tired.
And honeylulu you're not the first to do something like that. My mum once left my older sister (who I think was about three at the time) on the bus. Only realised when she saw my sister waving to her out of the back window. She had to drop her shopping and run after it to the next stop.

These are fab! Make me feel much better...

Had DC4 and after a bout of mastitis on week 2 I left the house for a little walk one afternoon while DH had the kids.

Saw a hardware shop and remembered DH wanted a broom to sweep outside (new house, long scruffy block paved drive). The brooms were nailed down in a dustbin outside the shop. I pulled on the brooms, took me a while to work out why they wouldn't come out. Went into the shop to find someone to help, pushed the door that said pull. Saw the lovely old shop keeper and said I'd like to buy a thingy outside, couldn't think of the word broom so mimed a sweeping motion. Took him out to show him which one, pulled on the door that said push. He asked which brush and I said I need one for sweeping the drive. He said what sort of surface? Couldn't think what the blocks were called so drew a rectangle shape with my hands in the air. Poor guy was smiling very bemusedly. I paid for the broom and said I've got the door this time and yet again pulled the door that said push to get out. Walked home shaking my head Hmm

gottaloveascamhun · 25/07/2016 20:28

Reversed into neighbour's car.
Dropped baby on his head at first nursery settling session.
Hallucinated cockroaches were crawling in baby's modes basket.
Lost my bank card 6 times in 4 months.
Both kids started sleeping well, my anxiety got better...then DS age 2 developed severe viral induced wheeze and breathing issues so I've been in and our of hospital with him a lot. A and E and children's ward are not conducive to previous, beautiful sleep!

DonkeyHotay · 25/07/2016 20:32

Insisted I need to make an appointment at (name of railway station) instead of (name of hospital) for a gynae appointment.
