Not sure why a one year old wouldn't have a nappy on as she clearly is not Notts trained at that age my one year old would be become destressed to be constantly wet

And what's the no medication about surely social service would become involved if they got very ill and parents did noting

Very odd

Mr Bamboo has got 22 days left to raise £50,000. So far, he's raised the grand total of £0.00. I'm tempted to donate a couple of quid to get a free copy of his (as yet, unfinished) book. That page is the biggest pile of woo I've ever read. He talks about 'animal locomotion' Hmm
I have a lot respect for people who do the self sufficiency thing - my Dsis is a total hippy and she and her DH grow all their own fruit and veg, keep chickens, collect their own firewood and rainwater etc. They're part of a scheme where people exchange tokens for doing jobs for others eg someone will do 2 hours gardening in exchange for babysitting.
Living in a flat in Brighton really isn't 'off grid'. And trying to get people to fund your daft pipe dreams is surely the opposite of being self sufficient?
And I HATE 'baby wearing'. When did this become a thing? I just used a sling.

ElspethFlashman · 21/07/2016 09:49

WTF is the "observer" effect anyway???

Why the fuck can't you just have a home birth like normal people with a midwife having a cup of tea in the kitchen when not needed?

Why all this shite about being completely unobserved? What if her baby's heartbeat was in distress? How on earth would she even know???

MrsJoeyMaynard · 21/07/2016 09:51

What's 'animal locomotion'?

Horse riding? Something else?

Maybebabybee · 21/07/2016 09:59

Attachment parenting would mean listening to your child Maybe.

That's just good parenting. Not "attachment"parenting.

PeterRabbitt · 21/07/2016 10:04

Although the kids are happy now that is because they don't know any different. I don't doubt that they live their children immensely and feel they're doing their best.

^However...
^
What happens when the children grow up and decide to live a more mainstream kind of life? The pictures of the 5 year old breastfeeding will be there forever thank to the Internet. I can only imagine how embarrassed he would be seeing that as a 14 year old!

cosmicglittergirl · 21/07/2016 10:06

I think people are judging because they went on telly, have a blog and are asking for money. They are inviting comment on their way of life. Anyway, most of the comments aren't that judgy, except about the vaccinations.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 21/07/2016 10:19

The only thing that's made me Shock from that article is the medicine and vaccinations thing.
Cosleeping and extended breastfeeding is quite normal. Home schooling - fine, the nappy thing's a bit odd but it's up to them and I don't really care how laid back they're choosing to be as parents.

But the medicine thing - lets just hope those poor kids never get seriously ill, if they had cancer would the parents insist 'the body heals itself'? Angry we are so lucky to have vaccinations and modern medicine (and an NHS) which has saved and improved millions of lives. If their kids needed medical attention and they rejected it because of all this 'natural' bollocks, I don't know, but it feels ungrateful and irresponsible.

MissHooliesCardigan · 21/07/2016 10:20

The husband's page also mentions 're-wilding' and 'earthing'. I thought it said re-wiring and was something to do with electrical skills which would at least be useful.
I think I might invent a parenting method and knock out a few books/blogs. I'm thinking of going against the current trend and dredging up lots of research that all this namby-pamby gentle parenting lark creates children who aren't equipped for the harsh realities of adulthood. To build resilience, you have to shout at your children and play horrible tricks on them. 'Hard Parenting?'

Gowgirl · 21/07/2016 10:24

Is animal locomotion pretending to be a puppy? If so we are all good in this house!

Maybebabybee · 21/07/2016 10:29

MissHoolies Grin

I'm an advocate of the type of parenting which allows my four month old to lie on his mat watching loose women while I have a snooze/eat a biscuit.

What type of parenting is that?

Hygellig · 21/07/2016 10:36

You can take this quiz to find out where you fit in on the crunchiness scale.

Claraoswald36 · 21/07/2016 10:42

Shit. I'm 5/6 on that scale. I can't go any higher because we have a telly and I scoff at those bloody amber necklaces

Blissx · 21/07/2016 10:43

Can't believe the mother is now claiming her daughter was wearing a nappy - that was a pee straight to the floor in a little puddle. No kind of nappy leaks like that - 'wearing a nappy' my arse!

And even so, they fact they just left the poor kid... Angry

Also, I don't think anyone on this thread has criticised homeschooling, but rather the 'method' of unschooling they claim to follow Hmm

Maybebabybee · 21/07/2016 10:44

At 2am the night before last when DS's teething related screaming reached fever pitch, I considered panic buying an amber teething necklace.

In the cold light of day I looked at myself in the mirror and wondered what had become of me.

Maybebabybee · 21/07/2016 10:44

Wait, what the FUCK is unschooling?!?

Claraoswald36 · 21/07/2016 10:47

Maybebaby - Flowers

Gowgirl · 21/07/2016 10:49

My ex neighbour did unschooling, quite often she couldn't be arsed to walk them to school.....
Apparently the Allen children will educate themselves while exploring the environment of a one bedroom flat in Brighton.....

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 21/07/2016 11:04

I'll chuck in an extra fiver to their cause just so we can see the back of them and they can be Costa Rica's problem Grin

Gowgirl · 21/07/2016 11:10

Costa Rica insists on vaccination, they are not nearly as liberal as Brighton Grin

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 21/07/2016 11:15

Gowgirl uh oh Grin

witsender · 21/07/2016 11:15

Google unschooling. It isn't as crap as it sounds.

MackerelOfFact · 21/07/2016 11:16

So they're 'off-grid' but appeared on national TV which is pretty much at the centre of the fucking 'grid', have an online blog, live in a terraced house in a major city and are crowdfunding their self-sufficiency?!

Riiiiight.

Also their DS has asthma which they apparently believe be 'healed' with herbs and supplements?

witsender · 21/07/2016 11:17

www.johnholtgws.com/frequently-asked-questions-abo/

"Unschooling is an educational method and philosophy that advocates learner-chosen activities as a primary means for learning."

Maybebabybee · 21/07/2016 11:17

It sounds like bollocks to me.
