We've done Charlie and the chocolate factory and the magic faraway tree - (she loved both) -what else would be good to try?

My 4 year old is enjoying listening to the bfg at the moment with her big sister. I don't think she is picking up the full story but enough of it to follow along.

Miaculpa · 16/07/2016 23:04

Winny the witch.
The wizard of Oz
Matilda
George's Marvellous Medicine

Mrmoonmrmoon · 16/07/2016 23:08

She was fascinated by Milly Molly Mandy as it was about 'the olden days'

She's maybe still a little young, but I have lovely memories of being read the 'Narnia' books. 'Worst Witch' are good and I had forgotten all about them :)

WalkerBait · 16/07/2016 23:20

My dd loves matilda

arethereanyleftatall · 16/07/2016 23:21

Mine loved rainbow magic at that age. Very simple stories.

Rainbowqueeen · 16/07/2016 23:25

The wishing chair series

AgedRelative · 16/07/2016 23:26

Secret seven - just mix the genders up a bit so the girls aren't always looking after the boys and tidying up.

scarednoob · 17/07/2016 01:38

The little wooden horse and gobbolino the witch's cat by Ursula moray Williams. My brother was 4 when my mum was reading the little wooden horse to him - I used to pretend to scorn it, as I was a big girl of 6, but I was always hanging around outside his room at reading time somehow... It was so vivid that I remember it clearly now, some 32 years later Grin

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 17/07/2016 02:08

My dd loved the magic Molly books.

lazybones77 · 17/07/2016 02:12

I read the Dahl books once we had watched the films with my boys. I know that's all the wrong way round but they loved that they recognised parts of the film in the books. Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were favourites.

Wind in the Willows

MorrisZapp · 17/07/2016 08:38

Teddy Robinson. It's quietly subversive whilst being utterly adorable.

throwingpebbles · 17/07/2016 08:38

These books are brilliant: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_0_6?k=claude+books&sprefix=claude

EarthboundMisfit · 17/07/2016 08:39

Gobbolino, The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark, Mrs Pepperpot, anything by Astrid Lindgren, the other Faraway Tree books (there are 4) if you haven't done them.

EarthboundMisfit · 17/07/2016 08:40

Oh yes, I second Claude.

AristotlesTrousers · 17/07/2016 08:42

How about Flat Stanley (quite short) and Horrid Henry, OP? Just got those, along with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to read over the summer hols with DS1. They look good.

littleducks · 17/07/2016 09:10
