before wading in?

Am I?

Or is it perfectly reasonable to want to bang my head against the desk?

I know people haven't got the time or inclination to read 8 pages of stuff, but your answer that you have spent time and care crafting and typing (yeah, right) is a pretty pointless waste of time if the OP has admitted they're wrong, or they've added loads of new info or the thread has moved completely sideways.

I know forums have always been like this, but the MN facility to highlight your own and the OP's posts does help. And I do feel sorry for some when they're getting a total kicking when they have actually had the grace to take opinions on board and admit they're wrong.

Just spare a couple of moments to catch up in future, would you please? Ta.

^ is very helpful. My op posts are green and I am in lilac.

thebestfurchinchilla · 16/07/2016 09:31

Thankyou Empress done!

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2016 09:32

It's OK to do whatever you want TBF. You might get told to RTFT or told that what you said was posted 4 pages back but you have to not care I guess.

PurpleDaisies · 16/07/2016 09:33

Your opinion is yours, why do you need to read the whole thread before commenting?

Because when the op has accepted they were being unreasonable it's not nice for people to keep piling on telling them how awful they are.

It's a pet hate of mine too, op.

thebestfurchinchilla · 16/07/2016 09:36

If that's the case, I wouldn't keep logging on and reading purple

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2016 09:37

Zombie threads are always funny when people who have not RTFT respond to an OP from 6 years ago. Grin

PurpleDaisies · 16/07/2016 09:40

Why not thebest? If it's a thread I'm posting on and the op is updating it would be a bit weird to just throw my opinion out there and disappear. Confused

I don't mean everyone should have to read every single post but it's a bit daft not to even skim and see how the op has responded.

thebestfurchinchilla · 16/07/2016 09:40

What is more annoying to me is the MN police who seem to spend their time telling others off who are not using mn to the correct standards!!. I mean who can be bothered to do that?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 16/07/2016 09:41

Numerous posters: Have you phoned an ambulance yet?

Op: Er yes. I started this thread two days ago, we've been to hospital and my husband has a diagnosis.

Numerous posters: Why don't you phone an ambulance or order a taxi to hospital?

Op: We went to hospital as I mentioned two pages ago.

Numerous posters: Have you considered phoning an ambulance?

You can't tell people how to post on MN. If it's annoying you have a break from it.

There will always be something you don't like. People who don't read the thread/grammar police etc. It's only an online forum after all.

ghostyslovesheep · 16/07/2016 09:43

I don't understand WHY people read pages of stuff? You can change the settings so it's one page - makes it much much easier to follow

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2016 09:46

I prefer the pages. If it's over a certain amount of pages I can decide whether to read it or hide it.

OfstedAintEverything · 16/07/2016 10:08

I am sooo tempted to not RTWT.....there...

YANBU, simply because by the end of a long thread the subject matter could have totally flipped. But some folk just like to comment and run...

DontOpenDeadInside · 16/07/2016 10:19

Did you know you can highlight yours and ops posts in settings?

Oh my God this is so annoying. Then you'll get some oblivious person saying, "I haven't read the full thread, but have you considered calling an ambulance?"

I also hate it when a poster admits that they are in the wrong, and they still keep getting kicked up and down the street by people who haven't read the full thread. It's happened to me on threads before. It's been so tempting to reply with something sarcastic but I've had to hold back to avoid an utter bunfight. It's also bloody infuriating when someone resurrects a thread to pile on when the OP has admitted they're wrong and the thread has died a natural death.

exLtEveDallas · 16/07/2016 10:25

It's the arrogance of posters that don't RTFT that pisses me off.

"Oh I'm such an important and intelligent person - far more important and intelligent than anyone else on this site - I'm far too important and intelligent to RTFT and no-one else is EVER going to say anything as important and intelligent as me, so I'll post my highly prized views and instructions here; there is no point in reading the thread because no-one else would post anything as important or intelligent as what I will post"

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2016 10:37

And the people who don't RTFT presumably want others to read their all important post.

Passmethecrisps · 16/07/2016 10:55

I really am not trying to tell people how to post.

People who post and run make threads very disjointed and hard to follow.

I also don't know what such posters get out of doing it.

I post as part of a flow of conversation or comment. I want to read what others have put as a) it might alter me view or give me something to think about and b) I am interested in other people

Sparklingbrook · 16/07/2016 11:02

I do agree that a conversation is better than lots of individual posts that take no account of what others have said.

Marynary · 16/07/2016 11:08

I agree it is important to read all OP's posts although I am always a bit sceptical about a lot of the updates as there seems to be a tendency for stories to get adjusted a bit if people initially think they are unreasonable. I don't really see why other poster's comments should be read though.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 16/07/2016 11:14

The problem is that MN don't use a proper forum structure. So a thread is just a list of replies to the OP.

If it had a forum structure you could reply to a comment rather than the OP. Then at least you can see what is the original thread and what is a tangent. Would make much life much easier.

wasonthelist · 16/07/2016 11:15

Have you tried bleeding the radiators with a penguin bollard op?

exLtEveDallas · 16/07/2016 11:15

I don't really see why other poster's comments should be read though

So you aren't filling up a thread with repeated comments.

handslikecowstits · 16/07/2016 11:16

YANBU. I'm usually late to the party so by the time I read a thread there are usually eight pages to read through. I do skim to see if the OP has come back but rarely post because often everything that has needed to have been said, has already.
