Hi all,

So my other half and I just want to get married. We had envisaged it to be just us, our parents (3) and two children ( age 1 and 2). We thought we would just get married in the registrars office for £50 plus £150 before hand for the notice of marriage... Except they say no we can only have two people with us on the office, so if that's what we want we have to pay £350 for the ceremony room. So that'll be a jump from £200 to £500 adding on the cost of the notice of intent to marry.

Little bit gobsmacked at the jump in price for a wedding at 10am on a Tuesday. And also a little bit sad.

Can't remember what ours cost 10 years ago but local Register office now charges about £320 for notices, fees and nice ceremony room for 50 ppl at the weekend/£250 weekdays. Office ceremony only is £120 all in.

We are getting our license at the registry office, it's £50 for the smallest room (up to 4 guests) but DP's parents are separated and both have partners, so 6 guests.

Next room up seats 80 people! It's still only £120 though, I'd look at the registry office in the next town/city over, I'm sure they'll have a more suitable option.

Yeah try a different one. We had an absolutely stunning register office room - cost £350, BUT we had 100 guests - I'd be livid to have to pay the same for a very small wedding. Ours offered a range of rooms suitable for up to 5 people, up to 20 people (or something like that), and then ours which seated 100.

We got married at Manchester Registry Office a few years ago with the 'enhanced ceremony' and it was about £100 for the up to 70 guests plus around £60 for the banns

Prices have gone up a bit but not extortionately.

Idiot that I am - I didn't even realise you could go to a registry office in another county!

Thank you all very much! We found one about half an hour away that will allow up to six people (not including babies) so we've gone and booked it! It'll be £125 all in so we won't have to stretch our finance either! And a nice meal afterwards.

Registrar was lovely and helpful too :)

I can't wait. Very excited now :)
