AIBU to think the school should give them non-permanent markers??

My son is in reception and for some reason the school gives them permanent markers to use during the day. Since he started he's ruined countless shirts (the attached picture is the worst). Granted he's being silly and I've told him off and taken stuff away as punishment. However I think the school is to blame as well. AIBU to expect them not to give 5 year olds who wear white shirts permanent markers? I'm planning to have a word with the head.

dry whipe markers come out with soap, cold water a nd a little bit of time. do not wash first.

Why is the first response of every MNer to have a word with the Head?

If you must have a word, go to the teacher first. I'm sure the head is busy enough without having to deal with tedious complaints that are none of his business.

Sorry. I've got out of bed on the wrong side, obviously. But don't go to the head, this really is nothing to do with him. Start with the class teacher and find out what they are using.

TBH I'm not sure dry-wipe markers come out much better.

It doesn't get any better when they get older. I had to buy my 15 yr old a couple of new shirts as he has had a massive growth spurt. One now has acrylic paint on it and another some permanent ink! Can't remove either but am still going to make him wear them in the winter when they go back to wearing jumpers.

YANBU although as others have said I'd go to the teacher before the head.

My DS1 is at preschool and comes home covered in pen but it washes out. Bit ridiculous to give children of reception age pens that won't easily wash out. I stopped going to a children's centre group that used non washable paint after it ruined both DS1s and my outfits - rather defeated the object of a free group to have to replace £50 or so of clothing .

Because I'm a complete tool, peeved.

Are you sure they are permanent markers? My Dd comes home with barks on her shirt from white board markers that are not permanent but never seem to wash out. She gets them when accidentally brushing the pen on her shirt as she turns or leans to write on the white board.

I worked in a preschool and all our art supplies were supposed to be washable. Some of them weren't. Brown and black paint, and green and blue felt tips in particular. Maybe talk to his teacher and ask exactly what they were using, and if they have any idea on how to get the stains out of his shirts.
