is Theresa May being unreasonable?

OP posts:
alltouchedout · 14/07/2016 08:35

She makes a speech setting out her stall as a compassionate one nation Tory who wants to forge strong and positive links with other countries in the midst of the chaos Leave has plunged us into, then appoints Hammond as Chancellor and BoJo as Foreign Secretary. I don't trust her anyway but that is blatantly "what I say and what I do are very different things" type politics.

echt · 14/07/2016 08:53

We are so fucked.

And I say that as one living in Australia who endured the knobend Tony Abbott.

PigletJohn · 14/07/2016 10:20

The "moving in speech" has nothing to do with reality. It is composed by a speechwriter seeking to allay the fears of people who know something about the new PM and the anticipated difficulties.

If you want to check that, listen to the Thatcher speech when she claimed to be St Francis of Assisi. The speech was 100% the opposite of what she did and what she was. You can look up your favourite PM moving speech to see what they said.

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 14/07/2016 10:46

How embarrassing. Do you think she basically wants him out of the way?

PigletJohn · 14/07/2016 10:50

It is said that he didn't look at all pleased after his appointment.

Might she have said "give it your best shot, Boris, and if you show yourself to be a bumbling incompetent, you're out?"

lljkk · 14/07/2016 11:00

Sadly I don't believe a word of TM's social justice blurb, either. She's about as sincere as tearful IDS on that.

I do think she's sincere on steering the ship thru Brexit, though.

The constrained smirk, head down while he composes himself, on the State dept. guy's face upon learning about Bojo's new job is fab. www.c-span.org/video/?c4610798/state-department-learns-foreign-secretary-boris-johnsons-appointment

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 14/07/2016 11:30

Maybe Theresa May was writing notes to herself, put 'Boris fucks sake' down, thought better of it and abbreviated to 'Boris FS', somebody transcribed the notes incorrectly et voila, we have a new Foreign Secretary...

Boris is clever. Theresa is clever also. Should be interesting.

LittleLionMansMummy · 14/07/2016 11:32

Boris is clever.

Boris Johnson is foreign secretary
RedHareWithBlondeHair · 14/07/2016 11:55

I can't get on board with this whole 'Boris is clever' idea. He's an idiot hiding in plain sight. He's not harmless. This buffoonery clown act has worked wonders. He couldn't negotiate his way out of a paper bag and yet people think he's equipped to negotiate with other foreign leaders. It's laughable, he'll come back with a tin of baked beans and a bottle of cider.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 14/07/2016 12:00

Little, Do you think he rigged the zip-line? How convenient that he is jauntily holding flags still. What has that amusing photo got to do with Boris's or anybody else's cleverness? I got my long skirt caught in the underground doors this week yet I have two Masters degrees...

I know Boris is fodder of the month but getting lulled into the false sense of security of his entirely put on buffoonery is a bit daft. He is a clever man and he cares only for himself. That's an unbeatable combination really that most of us do not have.

Olddear · 14/07/2016 12:24

Boris reminds me of someone I worked with. Brilliantly clever, affable eccentric who liked to be seen as a bit 'off the wall' but underneath all this buffoonery was a deeply, unpleasant racist man who felt superior to everyone.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 14/07/2016 12:25

He's not daft. He's arrogant. He doesn't care what you think.

corythatwas · 14/07/2016 12:28

She is absolutely ruthless isn't she? Yes to master-stroke, yes to playing the long game, but it is going to do us immeasurable damage in the eyes of the world, it is basically sticking two fingers up to foreign relations, and she simply doesn't care, as long as it strengthens her power.

Olddear · 14/07/2016 12:34

Poor Chris Grayling.....no phone call for him yet.

LittleLionMansMummy · 14/07/2016 12:46

Being educated does not make him politically 'clever'. He's essentially a very well educated journalist masquerading as a politician. He was out-manoeuvred firstly by the public on 23rd May, then by David Cameron on the 24th and now by Theresa May. He is a clown of epic proportions in the political world. I don't give a feck about his educational qualifications, or indeed yours Lying. He is a buffoon in politics who should go back to doing what he was actually pretty good at and stop making the UK a laughing stock.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 14/07/2016 12:52

Little, I was just challenging your silly assumption that getting stuck on a wire has anything to do with cleverness. Unless he constructed it, rigged it to fail and set it running, it doesn't.

You're stating things as fact when they aren't, they're just your opinion. Not just you, so many do it but it's irritating.

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 14/07/2016 12:55

Anyone know where Leadsom is? Wondering if she might get Transport as May tries to find women to put in...

MintJulip · 14/07/2016 12:56

stop making the UK a laughing stock

Oh I dont know....we are known the world over for our wonderful sense of humour?

Diddlydokey · 14/07/2016 13:01

There once was a man called Boris
Resembled an awful orifice
His talk of watermelon smiles
Has him digging for miles
But now he's in the foreign office?

LittleLionMansMummy · 14/07/2016 13:04

It was a joke - y'know, to lighten the mood a little. You're overthinking it Lying. He looks like a prick and he is in fact a prick, if an educated one.

JamesTiberiusKirk · 14/07/2016 13:05

I figured this was basically May hanging Boris out to dry.

She needed a big beast from the Leave campaign in her Government, so she now has three prominent Euro-sceptics in the key BREXIT positions - they will be exposed if negotiations go sideways.

This keeps Boris in Government but out of the way. He is going to spend the next few years mostly overseas or on a plane, which I imagine is exactly where May wants him. A lot harder to organise a rebellion if you are hardly ever in Westminster. Given Boris' nature, I imagine she is just giving him enough rope...

LittleLionMansMummy · 14/07/2016 13:05

Yes that will be 'gallows humour' just now Mint!

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 14/07/2016 13:14

Completely agree James! New scapegoat and his own bed to lie in.

bakeoffcake · 14/07/2016 13:22

Why has she left Jeremy cunt as health secretary?! Does she hate the Drs too?

JamesTiberiusKirk · 14/07/2016 13:27

bakeoffcake

Hunt seems to be bullet-proof for reasons that are not immediately obvious.....
