is Theresa May being unreasonable?

I suppose if you don't like it you could always join a party, get yourself to prime minister and then you can appoint whom ever you like.

EverythingWillBeFine · 13/07/2016 20:34

What ?!?!?

Because he still has some sort of political career left after all the crap he has done in the referendum?

lljkk · 13/07/2016 20:38

Bojo can speak French & is good at Gladhanding.

David Davis can probably keep him under tabs, too.

cremolafoam when you said Hammond and May I thought Top Gear 😳 just had first beer since baby born

Rainbunny · 13/07/2016 20:42

Clever move by May. He won't be doing any trade deals -that's Liam Fox's gig now and he won't be anywhere near the EU negotiations as David Davis will handle that. He'll be in a high profile but low responsibility job and if he fucks up he will only ruin his career not an election for the Tories. Let him spend his time travelling around the world schmoozing! The worst he can do is give the rest of the world that British people are a bit bonkers like him!

I'm developing a healthy respect for May's cunning. She managed to look like a unifier and appease the Brexiters while ensuring that Boris can't do any real damage. The only risk is that years down the line Boris makes a run for May's job.

HubrisComicGhoul · 13/07/2016 20:44

lljkk Wouldn't it be better to have David Davis as Foreign Sec & Boris Johnson as minister for brexit?

Also Liam Fox, wasn't he the one who was sacked for letting his mate sit in on defence meetings?

RedToothBrush · 13/07/2016 20:46

Actually its an inspired decision.

She's removed most power from the office. Boris has been exiled so can't cause trouble at home and he has to behave. If he fucks up, he doesn't screw up the Conservatives electoral chances. Plus it can be blamed on him being a buffoon.

Its a political castration. Boris knows it. He walked away from No.10 looking v pissed off.

Cocoabutton · 13/07/2016 20:47

Rainbunny, I hope you are right. Apart from anything else, Johnson will have an army of civil servants to advise.

lljkk · 13/07/2016 20:48

Boris is said to be terrible at details; his deputy mayor actually ran London when Boris was London mayor (they say). David Davis may be dull but he can handle a huge detailed brief for a long period no problem (I hope). Need a details person for Brexit minister. That's why I thought Gove would get it.

I'm not a Tory fan so don't get me started about shortcomings of Liam Fox!! He speaks well, at least. The civil servants seem to like LF ok.
I half wondered if Gisela Stewart would get a brief traitor

Sciurus83 · 13/07/2016 20:48

How embarrassing

Alachia · 13/07/2016 20:51

Wow -- just wow

Rainbunny · 13/07/2016 20:51

Hubris - you think Boris should be Minister for Brexit? That's madness! I imagine he'd be beaten up on sight the moment he landed in Brussels. David Davis has a good reputation in Brussels and this is going to be hard enough without throwing that despised clown into it.

Liam Fox however, I am somewhat concerned about. I just don't know if he's the right person to be heading trade negotiations. Has he ever shown any expertise in International Trade?

2old2beamum · 13/07/2016 20:53

Oh god where is my gun I may shoot myself!!

lljkk · 13/07/2016 20:53

Boris, Davis, Fox, will all have to face the people they've campaigned to divorce from. Inspired.

But why did Gove get off the hook?? Deputy PM job, maybe?

originalmavis · 13/07/2016 20:53

Maybe he will let us have The Plan now...

lljkk · 13/07/2016 20:55

... I have never never never ever taken any interest in a Cabinet Reshuffle before. Confused I wonder if I caught John Pienaar's virus.

Honestly, there will be a long-running tv series about the whole debaucle in about 30 yrs.

mynamesnotMa · 13/07/2016 20:56

So she can sack him. ..

You really couldn't make this stuff up.

ailith · 13/07/2016 21:14

Yay.

Olddear · 13/07/2016 21:17

Can't believe Boris is FS!!! I wouldn't have made him Minister For Feeding Larry.

bakeoffcake · 13/07/2016 21:17

I agree that's he looked very pissed off when he came out of No 10. I wonder why he didn't turn down the job?

Commentators on the news said it's a job with very little power, so that's a relief for us all. Grin

JinRamen · 13/07/2016 21:19

Dh just pointed out he in now also in charge of MI6 and gchq!

Lweji · 13/07/2016 21:22

That's going to go down well in the EU.

I can just picture the next James Bond movies. Saving the UK from the Foreign Secretary blunders.
