is Theresa May being unreasonable?

OP posts:

llijkk Davis already did that after he forced a by-election. He's good, common sense and no nonsense, and should have lead the party instead of Cameron. He is a long term Brexit supporter, so there won't be any surprises in the EU where he is concerned, as he was Minister for Europe (probably why he supported Brexit, he's seen the Brussels bubble up close).

Summerwood1 · 13/07/2016 21:24

Boris, I love you😘😘😘😘😘

Olddear · 13/07/2016 21:25

How is Boris job one with little power? Thought FS was a 'heavyweight' job?

oldestmumaintheworld · 13/07/2016 21:32

I had a great deal of respect for Teresa May before this afternoon because of the way she has behaved throughout the EU campaign and now she has really won a gold star. Appointing Boris as Foreign Secretary was a master stroke; the woman is a genius. And I say that as a Labour voter. (Actually when the Tories have finished with her can the Labour Party borrow her cos Jeremy's a disaster.)

And as for the thought of Boris as the Minister for Feeding Larry - he could learn a lot from that cat.

ginghambox · 13/07/2016 21:34

May has taken away International Trade and Europe affairs from the Foreign Office brief limiting him to shaking hands and grinning.

fryingtoday · 13/07/2016 21:37

Definitely genius move. He can schmooze and will be great for UK abroad - and he does not have to do any follow up work or detail which he is not good at! Plus shows May is absolutely capable of making her own decisions.

AvaLeStrange · 13/07/2016 21:38

WTAF?!! I just saw something about this on FB and thought it was a piss take! Shock

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 13/07/2016 21:39

He can go out and negotiate all those wonderful trade deals he was so keen on.
And when it becomes clear, as it will very rapidly, how completely fucking useless he is, she can fire him with impunity. No one can say she hasn't give him a chance.
And as an upside, perhaps we can be released from the torment of having his appalling sister on the telly every five minutes

sorenofthejnaii · 13/07/2016 21:40

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?

SeaEagleFeather · 13/07/2016 21:42

It doesn't even matter if he's effective or not. How the UK is seen in the world matters. Face means a lot. Insults mean a lot in many regions.

The UK has lost a LOT of respect in a lot of the world (as far as I can see) for the Brexit. Now to make Johnson the FS? That's quite an insult directly to Europe and it's sending a message 'fuck you' even further. Now's the time for tact not .. this.

Ok Davis will be doing the work as Secretary for Brexit but I fear that the UK will slip even further down in much of the world's view.

Olddear · 13/07/2016 21:43

Will Angela Leadsom get a role, do you think?

How is Boris job one with little power? Thought FS was a 'heavyweight' job?

A lot of it has moved to the new Brexit department which is being headed by David Davis not Boris.

Rainbunny · 13/07/2016 22:03

The role of FS has been watered down by the ascendence of global trade over the role of international relationships in peacetime and war. Business runs the world now. The worst thing I suppose Boris could do would be to start a war by accident (one of his clever jokes might be enough to do it!) Oh shit...

FuriousFate · 13/07/2016 22:18

Such a joke. I wonder what the US will make of this, given Boris wanted to renounce his citizenship to avoid a tax bill...

SeaEagleFeather · 13/07/2016 22:19

well, given that the less-than-incorruptable Liam Fox is now in charge of International Trade and to quote wiki:

In the expenses scandal, he was the Conservative Shadow Cabinet member with the largest over-claim on expenses, and as a result, he was forced to repay the most money.[3] In 2010, he was appointed Secretary of State for Defence, a position from which he resigned on 14 October 2011 over allegations that he had given a close friend, lobbyist Adam Werritty, access to the Ministry of Defence and allowed him to join official trips overseas.

all you can do is laugh.

notamummy10 · 13/07/2016 22:20

I wonder if little Jeremy Cunt Hunt will be facing the chop... Then again, he may be replaced by Gove.. I don't know who is worse: Hunt or Gove!? Blush

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 13/07/2016 22:22

I'm not sure he will be in post in a year.

inlectorecumbit · 13/07/2016 22:46

I love Boris, l am sure he will surprise everyone about how good a FS he will be.
Go Boris Star Star

PigletJohn · 13/07/2016 23:01

It should work out fine.

Boris Johnson is foreign secretary
Schoolisback1973 · 13/07/2016 23:03

She just want him as far away as possible!! Joke...
She has disappointed me with a few of her appointments!! Liam Fox??
How many lives do you get in politics?.. Watch Cameron creeping back up

ErrolTheDragon · 13/07/2016 23:08

Maybe the Queen suggested him when TM met her - Those quotes sound remarkably like her own DHs contributions to diplomacy.

Crazypetlady · 14/07/2016 08:15

The uk is the laughing stock of the world at the moment

acasualobserver · 14/07/2016 08:28

The only risk is that years down the line Boris makes a run for May's job

I think that's quite likely and not too many years down the line, especially if the May administration runs into trouble.

LittleLionMansMummy · 14/07/2016 08:32

She's a genius. In the meantime she's told Angela Merkel that she needs time before entering into negotiations. She sure does - enough time for her to totally discredit Brexit. She's just sabotaged the result of the referendum with her very first move as PM. She knew her actions would draw a collective inward breath of 'WTAF?!' yet did so anyway. Why? She is not a stupid woman. What motivation could she possibly have in making the UK even more of a laughing stock? I can't wait to read her memoirs.
