Has anyone else made it into their forties without having wisdom teeth appearing or needing to be removed?

I wonder about this occasionally since I just never seemed to have any wisdom tooth "activity" occur in my mouth but so many people I know have had them removed. My teeth are pretty straight and look and feel the same as ever. I just wonder since it's seems that more people have them removed than don't?

I'm only 32 but I've had all my wisdom teeth since about 18. They caused no problems and I didn't even know until the dentist told me. All my teeth are straight and I've never had any removed It's strange how different everyone's experiences are!

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2016 01:14

I'm late 30s and don't have any through, but I know I have two lurking up there Sad

AppleMagic · 13/07/2016 01:17

Rainbunny I wonder if the dentist has just assumed they've already been removed. I've been to dentists in Ireland and the US and they are horrified that I still have my impacted wisdom teeth. In fact the Irish dentist actually pulled one of the top ones out in the chair because I complained it was rubbing on my jaw a bit.
I think I'll have the other three out soon because I can see my teeth are starting to cross at the front and I've heard that can get worse as you get older. There just isn't room for them all.

I'm 40. Mine have been moving on and off very slightly for years. So my perfect teeth as a child are now slightly pushed out and I get some pain every now and again. Dentist told me to try and put up with it as I'd have to have them taken out in hospital otherwise Sad yours sound like they don't exist!

ClockBusCanada · 13/07/2016 12:26

No sign yet but I'll update you next year when I, ahem, change decade. Weirdly, DH's have just started to come through at 41.

maggiethemagpie · 13/07/2016 13:11

Mine appeared quite young, but one recently became loose and had to be removed as it was getting food trapped when it moved. I'm 40 next year so... nearly, but not quite!

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 13/07/2016 13:33

Bit of Googling tells me mine are mesioangular-impacted.
I'm 30, no sign of them being removed yet, they've just been left poking half out.

1moreglassplease · 13/07/2016 14:01

I'm 47 and only got told last year that I had two so they've not long arrived. No problems and fingers crossed it stays that way.

StarlingMurmuration · 13/07/2016 14:17

I don't have any - had X-rays in my late teens and they just aren't there. Like a PP, I say it's because I'm a step higher on the evolutionary ladder.

DerelictMyBalls · 13/07/2016 14:18

I'm 40 and mine haven't come up yet. My dentist says they probably won't.

StarryIllusion · 13/07/2016 14:50

They might already be through. I didn't know mine were through and when I asked my dentist she gave me a funny look and said they were all fully erupted and had been for years.

inaclearingstandsaboxer · 13/07/2016 14:55

I am close to fifty and I asked my dentist when I would get my wisdom teeth.... She said I had them 25 yrs and obviously hadn't noticed!!!!

TroysMammy · 13/07/2016 14:55

The first one came through when I was late 20's and rubbed against the bottom gum. The dentist said I could have it out like a "pea in a pod" or I could suffer until the bottom one came through. I waited, didn't suffer at all. From then on all plain sailing. I'm 48 and have all mine. It did help having teeth out as a teen because of overcrowding so they had room to come through.

Chloe1984 · 13/07/2016 18:28

For those who don't know- count your teeth, if you have 32 then you've had your wisdom teeth Smile

bibbitybobbityyhat · 13/07/2016 18:40

I've got 28 but I had 4 out at the age of 13/14 and braces fitted. So that means I have my widsom teeth then, who knew!

EmmaWoodlouse · 14/07/2016 14:44

yes, I'm 50 and I haven't got any. According to an x-ray I have actually got some inside my jaws on either the top or bottom, I can never remember which, and none at all on the other one. The ones that are "hiding" have never shown any sign of moving down or caused me any problems and I'll be every surprised if they do now!

Cedar03 · 14/07/2016 14:46

I've got all mine, they came through when I was a late teenager. Dentist at the time told me it was early. They've never caused me any problems.

Roomba · 14/07/2016 15:10

Hmm, I am confused as I thought I had my wisdom teeth and remember them erupting pretty early when I was 18 or so.

I had two top molars removed to make space in my mouth before braces, at age 14.

So - I should have 30 teeth, right? Just counted and I have 26! But I certainly appear to have 3 molars at the bottom and definitely remember them coming through. I can't even ask my dentist as I don't have one - there are no NHS dentists where I live that have spaces, and I cannot afford even the simplest private treatment right now.

milliemolliemou · 14/07/2016 15:14

Yes, never had any despite being elderly and yay to evolutionary development.
science.howstuffworks.com/life/evolution/no-wisdom-teeth3.htm

Clearly our very early ancestors had larger jaws and the extra teeth (really just large molars) were very useful when catching/chewing uncooked food/hard grains. Late eruption is the devil though when the other teeth are set and there's no room. My pa had them come through his palate in his late Forties.

roundtable · 14/07/2016 15:18

I have 32 teeth and space for them all thankfully!

queenMab99 · 14/07/2016 16:40

I am 65 and have no wisdom teeth. Sad
