Has anyone else made it into their forties without having wisdom teeth appearing or needing to be removed?

I wonder about this occasionally since I just never seemed to have any wisdom tooth "activity" occur in my mouth but so many people I know have had them removed. My teeth are pretty straight and look and feel the same as ever. I just wonder since it's seems that more people have them removed than don't?

In my 40s not sure if I have them or not - can't be arsed to have a look atm. Grin

Anaffaquine123 · 12/07/2016 22:42

My mum lived until 59 and never got any wisdom teeth through. I, however, had to have all 4 removed as they were all impacting on my other teeth. It was awful.

Riddo · 12/07/2016 22:43

I'm 50 and still have no sign of wisdom teeth appearing Smile

Tabsicle · 12/07/2016 22:45

I'm 38 and mine never appeared.

Waxlyrically · 12/07/2016 22:46

I'm 47 and still have some milk teeth. When I lost one of those a few years ago - they have no roots apparently- the nearest wisdom tooth to it came through - didn't stop there being a big gap though. I have one other that broke the surface many years ago but has done nothing since. Luckily it doesn't bother me.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/07/2016 22:47

46 years of and I haven't got any either. I don't think there are any showing on my X Ray's.

redgoat · 12/07/2016 22:48

I'm 39 and according to my dentist mine have come through sideways and although they are causing no problems at the moment, I will probably have to have them out eventually.

DropZoneOne · 12/07/2016 22:49

I don't have any - was x rayed in my 30s as no sign and dentist was concerned about lack of space in my mouth if they did decide to come through. Grateful as DH has needed all 4 removing over the years.

justilou · 12/07/2016 22:51

Have you had an X-ray to find out if you have them? I thought I was getting mine at 26, but that turned out to be my 12yo molars. (A bit late) The dentist Xrayed my jaw and there are no wisdom teeth. Seems I also had five baby teeth because there were no adult teeth underneath. Very common with people of Celtic descent.

DarkAngel1984 · 12/07/2016 22:52

I'm only 32 and I not only don't have any wisdom teeth but don't have my full set of adult teeth yet. If they ever came through I don't think there is anywhere for wisdom teeth to come from.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/07/2016 22:53

My mum has never had any come through. Whether they are non existent or still hiding in her gums at mid 60s I don't know.

I have all mine (well 3 and half) and they've been quite troublesome but tidied up my previously gappy teeth quite nicely.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 12/07/2016 22:59

My Grandma got hers when she was in her 80s!!

TrickyD · 12/07/2016 22:59

I am 72 and no wisdom teeth have ever appeared. I doubt if they will now. I thought their gradual disappearance amongst the population was an evolutionary trend.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/07/2016 23:00

I'm 55 and have all 4 present and correct. But I did have a premolar out of each quarter as a teen because the dentist knew I'd be too crowded otherwise. One of the wisdom teeth was partially erupted for several years and the dentist predicted I'd need to have it out, but the other teeth must have budged up a bit as it all emerged eventually.

A distant relation came to stay with us when I was a kid, and during the visit her first wisdom tooth started to makes its appearance ... IIRC she was 76 at the time so don't give up hope!Grin

TheCrumpettyTree · 12/07/2016 23:02

I'm in my 30s and have no wisdom teeth. They're just not there.

RumbleMum · 12/07/2016 23:05

Mine spent years poking through and making my gums sore then disappearing, but are now permanently just showing the top surface. I'm nearly 40. They're apparently quite impacted but don't cause me major issues so the dentist is happy to leave them.

Rainbunny · 12/07/2016 23:05

Yes I have had teeth x-rays (previously mentioned) but it was about a decade ago and I have simply forgotten whether the x-rays showed any wisdom teeth or not! I keep meaning to ask my dentist but I somehow forget every time I have an appointment. Plus I currently live in the USA and I have a slightly paranoid tendency to think I'll get milked if I mention the words "wisdom teeth" to my dentist.

Dental care isn't cheap here and I'm convinced my DH is basically paying for his dentist's kids through college right now! Everytime he goes for an appointment there is something new and expensive they "need" to fix! I'm sticking to the fact that my teeth seem good, I have no issues and my dentist doesn't mention anything when I visit. No need to invite an unnecessary and expensive investigation into whether I have wisdom teeth or not!

I have one currently giving me gip. Another is partially erupted. They've been slowly coming through for about 10 years but never seem to get anywhere.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 12/07/2016 23:27

I just had to count mine to see if I had wisdom teeth or not as I don't remember them coming in or anything. I'm only 30 so surely would remember. I have 32 so they must of and iv never had any issues with them and teeth are all completely straight with no overcrowding.

I don't have any family member's or close friends that I know of who have had them removed though. So don't think it's really common.

MarklahMarklah · 12/07/2016 23:36

Late 40's here - I have all mine - last year when the Dentist checked them over he found another one coming through, so I'm obviously super-wise. Not had any problems with them so all five are happily sitting there.

Tactfulcactus · 12/07/2016 23:42

I only have one, has never caused me any problems. My dentist said it was because I was more highly evolved. She's a very wise woman.
Interested to see someone mentioning a Celtic connection, as both my grandfathers are of Irish descent. My dh has 4 wisdom teeth and no Celtic blood!!

SiencynArsecandle · 12/07/2016 23:46

46, only when is 'partially through' according to my dentist but it has been like that for 15 years!

KatieKaboom · 12/07/2016 23:55

I was born without them and without any adult teeth save at the front.

Freak.

echt · 12/07/2016 23:57

I'm over 60, with Irish ancestry on both sides and neither I nor my siblings have wisdom teeth. On the other hand, DD, who is so like DH who had no Celtic blood I'm aware of, has one.

ShellyF · 12/07/2016 23:59
