Case in point; Murray has just won his second Wimbledon title: Buzzfeed has as its top headline; 'at last, some good news...'

Seriously. Get it together. Life isn't that bad!

That's not really self-depreciating though is it?

Considering Brexit and all the fall-out surrounding it, everything that's going on in Parliment... England, NI and Wales not getting to the final of Euro 2016, 'At last, some good news' is pretty spot on.

Laquitar · 10/07/2016 18:11

Every time i am going to post i see that Worra has said what i was thinking.

I will start posting on every thread:' What Worra said'!!

Really?! Brexit isn't Armageddon you know..

Also, I bet there are a fair few countries in the world that would swap with us. Equally, this kind of self-depreciation was going on waaay before this. Remember the run up to every Olympics that has ever taken place? Jeez, it's okay to be proud. We are a small country, and we pack a punch for our size.

What Worra said too - only she missed out "Scotland not even getting to the Euros and Sturgeon threatening yet another indy ref". You think you've got it bad??! Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/07/2016 18:15

Yes, in general, you are absolutely correct.

MardyBra · 10/07/2016 18:15

I hate myself for this. I hate it when people do it. But I can't stop myself...

deprecating

No i.

Is this another (albeit more veiled) thread that is just trying to suggest that the people who are upset and angry about the vote to leave the EU are unreasonable and to attempt to invalidate their views and feelings?

WorraLiberty · 10/07/2016 18:17

I don't imagine anyone thought Scotland would get to the finals if they weren't in it Grin but yes, the Indy Ref threat!

Really?! Brexit isn't Armageddon you know..

I've read back through the article and it's pretty clear that no-one is saying anything about Armageddon.

You really seem a bit dramatic OP Grin

It's just a throwaway comment 'At last, some good news'.

Really no big deal.

WanderingNotLost · 10/07/2016 18:18

MardyBra you saved me the job! Grin

SirChenjin · 10/07/2016 18:22

Exactly - they weren't even there! At least you lot got on the plane...we are so much better than the rest of the UK at football (in our ginger topped heads) and you didn't even give us a shot of the ball . Angry

Anyway, looking on the bright side, now that we've got the EU ref out of the way there's a few more years of instability and infighting to look forward to before the next indy ref. Every cloud and all that..

Queenbean · 10/07/2016 18:23

MardyBra me too Grin

Laquitar · 10/07/2016 18:23

The royals could pop their clogs any time though really.

MonkeysWAGMug · 10/07/2016 18:27

From OP's posts, the thread seems to be yet another Brexit thread, rather than one about British people's perceived self deprecation.

Cinnamon2013 · 10/07/2016 18:28

Look, I love life. So I don't want to be a negative arse. But looking at it objectively things in this country are NOT good.

  • sterling at 31 year low
  • recession now seen as inevitable
-power vacuum in Westminster
  • racial abuse up 75%

Things are worse than they have ever been in my lifetime.

Ginslinger · 10/07/2016 18:28

thank you Mardy - like you I never make reference but this one was making me twitch

Cinnamon2013 · 10/07/2016 18:29

Sorry I really did sound like an arse. I just think this jollying along stuff really is bollocks. People are already losing their jobs.
