I haven't read anything good for ages.
I like autobiographical, some historical, I do like psychological thrillers. I liked The Girl on The Train. I like Louise Candlish.
I'm not keen on chick lit. I don't like a happy ending.

Bel Canto - Very surprised no-one's mentioned it on here already!

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adieh - retelling of Sherezade's story, absolutely brilliant.

The Reader on the 6.17 - Fantastic short read.

The Shadow of the Wind

Memoirs of a Geisha

I'm loving this thread for recommendations. Have just finished The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon and I Let You Go - both of which were absolutely brilliant. Reading the thread again to see what stands out next.

Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris is a great psychological thriller, as is You by Caroline Kepnes

'A Fine Balance' - Rohinton Mistry. One of my most favourite books. It's heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. A story of 4 relative strangers in India and how their worlds come together - the highs and the lows. And there are definite lows. I was willing them on, desperate for it all to come good... A hard read emotionally but I've read and reread several times and it still makes me have that sharp intake of breath at certain points. And the deep exhale of sadness. Christ, I'm not painting it well but it is an utterly good read.

And 'A Hundred Years of Solitude' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. My all time favourite. Another epic tale. But you must be prepared to flick back to the family tree at the start (a lot!!) because all the six generations of the family have insanely similar names!!

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. I was reading the end as the light was going down at the bus stop and had to move under a street light. A woman said: 'That must be a really good book.' It is.
