I haven't read anything good for ages.
I like autobiographical, some historical, I do like psychological thrillers. I liked The Girl on The Train. I like Louise Candlish.
I'm not keen on chick lit. I don't like a happy ending.

Oh, In Cold Blood too.

Footle · 06/07/2016 18:47

Helen Dunmore, Exposure. John LeCarré territory but different approach. Gripping.

Gaspard · 06/07/2016 18:47

Angela's Ashes and the sequel, 'Tis by Frank McCourt. Autobiographical, sad in parts but I laughed out loud at some bits. I've re-read them both a few times. Easily some of the best reads of my life.

Footle · 06/07/2016 18:49

Oh, and Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, and others by her. And probably Margaret Forster's final book, How to Measure a Cow, but I'm waiting for it to get cheaper.

I would agree with the suggestion of I am Pilgrim. I couldn't put it down- it is a massive book and captivating. Challenges your preconceptions.

Vlier · 06/07/2016 19:08

Wizards first rule by Terry Goodkind. It's very brutal for a fantasy book so you might want to try it even if it isn't your genre.

And placemarking for ideas Smile

TrionicLettuce Wed 06-Jul-16 16:47:41 -The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King

I was coming on to say that :) A short book, i read it in one sitting, literally could not put it down.

Green Mile was like that too, another Steven King although with that one i was crying so hard by the end that it was hard to see the darn pages.

LolaStarr · 06/07/2016 19:11

YY to The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon- saw it recommended on here and downloaded it for my holidays last week. Read it over 2 nights, really gripping.

Also loved The Girl with all the Gifts - another MN recommendation came good Grin

Get this house in order by Matt Ruff

MrsMook · 06/07/2016 19:21

I can't remember the name properly, but it's something like The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August (I'm stuck on the surname). Interesting plotline; he relives his life multiple times, but can make different choices. He's stuck in real lifespans so has to endure childhood each time... it takes several lifespans to save the world...

I loved a lot of the suggestions here.
Currently reading The Letter and just finished the little house by Phillipa Gregory...also I loved before I go to sleep.

There have been lots for me, some of them named on here, but the one that absolutely tops all others for being impossible to put down is We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. Bloody brilliant book and, like a previous poster said, I literally walked around the house reading it. This was also right after I'd had my second baby so sitting breastfeeding gave me a great reading excuse! Smile

Jenijena · 06/07/2016 19:32
