What do you judge the outside of a house on?

My mum and I have completely different things we judge the outside of houses in. She thinks grass should be short. I like buttercups and daisies so prefer longer grass which she thinks makes it look messy. However I'm desperate to paint our new fence and she can't understand the rush.

So what do you judge the outside of a house or garden on?

Their drives! I have an odd obsession with them and what they're made of!

Also I like plenty of flowers/bushes and the grass to be neat.

The grass, rubbish and junk outside, dirty Windows & front door.

I don't really judge but I'd think those things looked scruffy.

I judge the windows. If there's clutter on the window sills or whether nets or curtains are clean. I think it really gives you an idea of what its like inside.

People extending a house when they can't keep on top of what they've already got - so new attic conversion or kitchen diner but their roof has tiles missing and the window frames are rotten.

Long grass etc not too bad if house is otherwise well-maintained.

Houses with non opening windows (you can tell on most styles). I just think they must be mucky buggers inside that don't open windows. No fresh air?

It immediately sets my teeth on edge if I see office blinds on a house. It makes the house look ugly.

Do you mean when just walking down the street or when looking at houses for sale? Because we've had ours replaced, I look at the ridge tiles/chimney/roof. Other than that, general tidiness/state of paint/soffits/what sort of front door they have: I'm slightly obsessed and hate PVC!

But then our front garden is state. Overgrown with weeds, bins right in front of house, cat shit from neighbours cats on any bit that cat be scared at. Rubbish blown out of recycling. It's horrible. But we have relatively new windows and painted front door. A complete contrast to back garden which has neat flowerbeds and short grass. It's just that we dont use it and once inside the house don't see it so out of sight out of mind.

I envy those with nice easy to maintain but attractive front gardens with gravel/ paved and a few easy pots of shrubs. One day we'll have the spare money to do it I hope!

Can't say I 'judge' though.

In general things you would notice I suppose. We're in the middle of have massive connifer bushes removed from our back garden and as we are the end house the whole world can see our back garden. Plus the guys had to remove our gate for some of the equipment to get so its leaning up against the front wall. The fence is currently going up and I find the bare boards an eyesore.

Any ways was chatting to my mum about tidying the place up once it's all done and her first thing was to cut the grass whereas I wanted to put the gate up and paint the fence. As we live in a cul de sac i was wondering what people notice more so I can get started because I feel like I'm currently living in a bomb site.

I keep reminding myself it'll be worth it when it's done

My parents are obsessed that the doorstep fascia thingy has to be pristine clean. I don't give a fuck am less bothered

Lol my first ever rented house my granny had a fit because there was moss on the ground where the birds had dropped it.

Considering the place was a dump I was amazed that it was the moss she took issue with

I'm very fussy about the front of our house. I insist that the blocks replacing wheels on our unused vehicles are neatly piled: also the discarded mattresses are in line with each other.

I like to see a neat lawn with lots of flowers and shrubs.
I don't like gravel or concrete.
I like to see individuality in a garden too.
I also find cars parked all over the street a huge turn off.
It makes it look cluttered.
I like quirky signs on gates or hanging above doors.

Rust bucket vehicles that haven't moved for ten years.
All other ok by me.

I wouldnt judge as such though. My own garden gets out of control very easily. I dont like lawns full of weeds and pots full of dead plants.
I dislike concrete, and overly neat gardens. I like neat gardens but with softer lines, not overly clipped or regimented.
A cottage garden is my ideal, messy but not scruffy.

I also like wooden window frames in yellow or off white rather than upvc.
I love to see a path leading Upto the front door.

I like a well tended front garden snigger. Window boxes and hanging baskets are lovely. Fresh paintwork and a general feeling of being 'loved'.

I find rubbish and dirty windows/net curtains depressing.

a few of the houses/flats round here are rented and the front gardens are a right mess,they just dont seem to bother even keeping them tidy to the minimum

even some of the owned houses are scruffy and unkept,some people just dont seem to be bothered what the front garden looks like

if i was looking to buy a place and the garden was really unkept it would put me of the property
