To hate newborn photoshoot pictures?

So I don't know if it's just me but a lot of people on my FB feed have been posting their newborn photoshoot pics recently and I bloody hate them.

The babies are always squished into an elaborate outfit or stark naked on a rug and rolled into a little ball and then photoshopped so they look like dolls with terrifyingly googly eyes or creepy porcelain skin.
I can't abide them. Is this just me being a bit of a misery guts or does it irritate everyone else too?

Give me a cheeky home snap of a snuggly baby in a onsie any day.

I like them and I think that most people away from mumsnet probably do as well.

Savagebeauty · 05/07/2016 20:19

Headbands are just horrible pointless bits of tat.

HairySubject · 05/07/2016 20:19

I think they are cute but then I had a cake smash shoot runs from thread

AprilLoveJ · 05/07/2016 20:20

Yes pardon they've clearly taken the time to scroll through a few of them Grin

Mishaps · 05/07/2016 20:22

I am a retired photographer and I too hate these posy photos, not just newborns, but families strewn around on white sheets throwing each other around and leaping up and down. Neither do we necessarily want the pose with the teddy or the aspidistra. I always used to go and become a fly on the wall - just stick around for a bit until you become wallpaper and then just get some lovely close up candid shots.

foxessocks · 05/07/2016 20:30

I'm not a fan. I did have a photoshoot with my 2 year old dd recently for my dhs fathers day present but I told them I wanted it really natural and I didn't dress my dd up she was just in her usual leggings and t shirt. I'm pregnant and we did get some lovely pictures of dd listening to my bump. I told them absolutely not when they tried to tie a blue ribbon round my tummy though!

crayfish · 05/07/2016 20:30

I had them done, but I stipulated no costumes and no photoshop. They are just him, sleeping on a cushion and stuff and some family shots, which are lovely. I'm not very good at taking pictures and wanted to have a nice record of when he was tiny, I waited a long long time for him.

I don't mind if other people hate them, but mine aren't posey or 'creepy'.

SirChenjin · 05/07/2016 20:31

YANBU at all.

The one that tops the list of awful baby photos for me is the 'half naked bloke with baybee' shot . Bloke is usually tattooed and obviously spends far too much time down the gym - a sort of photo opportunity to display his muscles and sheer manly size while cradling the fruit of his loins.

Cringe.

user7755 · 05/07/2016 20:35

April - or scroll past them. I don't think its particular to MN that people aren't keen but each to their own!

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 05/07/2016 22:23

Shows how different everyone is. The shots of skin on skin with their daddy makes my heart melt. If the dad is ripped and inked all the better as far as I'm concerned Grin

Here's a fab pic DD1 (11) took today of DD2 who's 2 weeks old Smile

Love it :)
Random shots that capture a moment are the best. This is DD having her breakfast. She only tried food for the first time on Thursday.

She looks like she's enjoying it Oyster!
Derailing thread with our candid snaps he he

WillH I think your newborn shot is absolutely beautiful (just like the others). So soft and curled up. That crinkled little mouth.

We did some shots like this too of DS and they were all just him naked, no props etc - I absolutely loved watching the shoot, he was 5 days old, just slept through it all, and I will always treasure the results.

ChipsandGuac · 06/07/2016 01:19

I love all the newborn photos on this thread tbh. But my absolute favourite is Lovelilies' sticky out tongue, taken by Big Sister one.

Congrats to you all on your beautiful babies! reminds myself I don't want a 5th child but oh my, I'd love a 5th baby. Just for a couple of weeks

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/07/2016 01:22

Yanbu

My mum was desperate for me to have such a shoot when my daughter was a newborn, I dragged my feet long enough that she eventually stopped mentioning it.

MrBoot · 06/07/2016 01:25

An old acquaintance of mine is a photographer and specialises in these. Baby curled up beside Dad's huge hand, baby wearing a flower stuck to head. I think I am so used to seeing them I don't find them odd anymore but they are so impersonal. His facebook page is awash with these photographs and yes they are all 'manipulated fake

HerRoyalNotness · 06/07/2016 01:55

I like them. I also like wedding pics, holiday pics, landscapes etc... I love looking at photos and seeing the point of view of the photographer.

I crocheted some discrete flowers and crowns ie not huge, for a photographer I know and they look lovely.

I have a 'friend' who does lovely work, posed and natural/candid. She likes the shirtless and naked babies as clothes really date a picture. Here is DS2 soon to be 6!

Yep. Hate them. I love candid photos, or just "nicer" photos taken with a better quality camera. No need for elaborate posing and outfits etc.

Vegetablegarden · 06/07/2016 02:22

Posed ones in flower pots (or as my DSIL - beside a fake tankard of BEER... ?!!) = Yuk

Natural ones, lovely.

NightWanderer · 06/07/2016 04:16

I have a photographer friend who specialises in newborn photo shoots. I can see why people like them but I would never do one. She does all the heads resting on hands, croqueted head bands, oversized flowers. My favourite is the one where a baby is photoshopped so it looks like it's sleeping in a dream catcher. Yes, she really goes all out. Actually she's an amazing photographer and her pics are beautifully done, very Anne Geddes, very Pinterest. I can see that people would treasure them. Just not my cup of tea.

lovelilies · 06/07/2016 05:35

Thank you Chips SmileBlush

mathanxiety · 06/07/2016 06:11

Absolutely not U.

They are beyond cliches at this point.

SuzyLucy · 06/07/2016 06:45

I love that photo of your girls Mermaid. You must be looking forward to them coming home. They are gorgeous.

pearlylum · 06/07/2016 07:06

I thought it was just me.

Natural ones are lovely, but I also hate the ones where they are wrapped up like bugs with fake flowers stuck on their heads.
I think we have Anne Geddes to blame for that.
These images have become so cliched.
