To hate newborn photoshoot pictures?

So I don't know if it's just me but a lot of people on my FB feed have been posting their newborn photoshoot pics recently and I bloody hate them.

The babies are always squished into an elaborate outfit or stark naked on a rug and rolled into a little ball and then photoshopped so they look like dolls with terrifyingly googly eyes or creepy porcelain skin.
I can't abide them. Is this just me being a bit of a misery guts or does it irritate everyone else too?

Give me a cheeky home snap of a snuggly baby in a onsie any day.

There's taking a nice picture of your newborn and there's what you've described op. I get that people want to put them in a cute pose, but photoshop for a newborn - why???

Toofondofcake · 05/07/2016 16:39

mermaid hope your twins are doing well! Flowers

Bet the pics were gorgeous and no wierd air brushing or outfits needed :)

Snurk at photographer who didn't expect wrestling to involve actual wrestling.

BennyTheBall · 05/07/2016 17:04

Me too! I HATE them.

I hate the way the babies seem to be contorted into unnatural positions - often with their heads propped on their hands - it looks grotesque.

It seems all the fashion now.

As do "cake smash" pictures. Which seem fairly artificial.

And I could get a cake from Asda and take pictures of my kids demolishing it for a tenner not £200.

I have seen some very lovely newborn shots and some significantly-less-lovely ones. Anne Geddes has a lot to answer for!

I've never really understood pregnancy shoots - probably because a semi-naked picture of myself at that point (at any point!) was last thing I would pay for.

ArmySal · 05/07/2016 17:28

YANBU.

user7755 · 05/07/2016 17:33

I'm not keen on professional photos in general to be honest. They just seem so contrived and don't feel 'real'. Even wedding photos just seem fake to me. Just not my cup of tea, give me a cheesy selfie or quick snap of grandma going all gooey eyed over grandchild any day.

YABU Grin I had them done... I love them! I do prefer them to not have weird props, though. This is on the photographer's website, so I'll share this one. However, I don't like sharing the others, so I'm not the type you're on about (regarding FB) Smile

YADNBU bloody hate them! Why the feck would I want a picture of a gorgeous baby that's been shoved in an old box? Or perhaps in some strange knitted hat and knicker combo? Never mind having to actually pay for it. I think it's bloody weird and if the baby could crawl away I'm sure they would

user7755 · 05/07/2016 17:52

Sootica - they do Sad

Hygellig · 05/07/2016 17:54

I'm not that keen on them either. We had a photographer come to the house when DD was a newborn but I had her take pictures of her awake and dressed rather than in the curled up naked style that she normally does.

SwivelOnYourRedChair · 05/07/2016 17:58

I love them.
Dd had her first professional photos done at seven weeks old. and another four times after. She's 2 now.
She is going to be my only child, and I'll never get the chance to do it all again. The photos are a reminder of those times, and she looks bloody cute Wink

SwivelOnYourRedChair · 05/07/2016 18:01

Just cuteness!

On what planet would anyone think the rest of your friends want to see you snuggling your heavily pregnant semi naked wife when you're wearing nothing but your y fronts?! I was traumatized for weeks!

Ah ha ha - love this!

PinkyofPie · 05/07/2016 18:23

YANBU. Squished up potato faces, unnatural poses (I loathe the one where babies have their chin in their hands) and worst of all, great big enormous bows on bald baby girls. SIL got one and spent £500 on photo prints, they're all over her walls and look awful. Her LB, now 2, is absolutely gorgeous IRL and the pictures don't do him justice at all.

Each to their own I supposed though, we got a few pics done by a friend who has the equipment, just us with newborn DD in our arms, she had a white sleep suit on and we wore whatever we'd put on that day, I'm sure some people would cringe at them although I don't see why we all look bloody amazing Grin

WalrusGumboot · 05/07/2016 18:29

Wow, surprised by the negativity here!

But then again, my two didn't need photoshopping.

percythepenguin · 05/07/2016 18:30

Swivel- that's a lovely photo!
I can't stand the ridiculosly posed ones though and cake smash shoots are just awful!
I did like these newborn shoots though....www.boredpanda.com/newborn-baby-photoshoot-fails/

firstandmiddle · 05/07/2016 18:32

I hate squished up newborns, make me feel funny.

Gives me the creeps as well. Their legs and arms look boneless.
I particularly dislike that advert where the newborn is wearing a blue cape and a mask and and the skin looks artificial and porcelain like.

What is that advert? Hmm

Oysterbabe · 05/07/2016 18:35

Yanbu, they are absolutely horrid. I'm not a fan of any of these professional photoshoots though. I much prefer natural shots.

MyBreadIsEggy · 05/07/2016 18:38

Having a newborn photo shoot is fine IMO.....
However, dressing the baby up in nothing but fluffy daffodil hat, contorting it into weird positions and sitting it in a fruit bowl is just bizarre Confused

NeedACleverNN · 05/07/2016 18:40

That advert is comfort I think Grin the sensitive formula though

It's changed now. It's a woman and a little girl washing the whitest stuff they have....to white! Shocker

It was all over the baby magazines I bought

woodwaj · 05/07/2016 18:41

Yanbu. They are bad! I haven't done it as I'm 99% sure my son won't thank me for it 😅
