Doc prescribed antibiotics for DS 6 but without giving a reason

DS 6 went to Doc last week, for something unrelated and pre-booked but he'd had a cold and come out in a facial rash which was swabbed. A steroid cream was prescribed.

Today the receptionist called and and said he needs antibiotics.

I asked what for, what does he have? She said I don't know, it doesn't say.

I am going to collect the prescription but I don't want to give him drugs when I don't even know what they are for. So I booked him back in tomorrow. The rash has hugely subsided mostly on its own but also with the cream. Plus it's been a week since the visit although I realise the swab had to culture.

I feel annoyed (not at the receptionist, but the 'system'). Am I being OTT?

It must be something like impetigo, which will need the ABs.
The receptionist / nurse/ GP could have conveyed this message over the phone so YANBU. Most people would worry and instead of a short phone call, this situation now means an unnecessary visit to the surgery tomorrow.
Ask to speak to the practice manager .

Silly that they've made you come back in - don't the GPs do call backs?

The cream apparently would indicate impetigo, (it mainly is prescribed for it on a Google) but absolutely nothing was said about hygiene or contagiousness or school. So I don't think so.

I'm either being a dumb ass or treated like one. Not sure which.
