Too many pets?

Can I ask what you would consider 'too many pets' ? I am being tagged in Facebook things for crazy cat lady memes regulary ....quite often people make reference to 'ALL' my pets (said as if there are two million) so I just wondered what animals you all have and what your personal idea is of what makes too many? I'm watching animal hoarders and it got me thinking Grin

My one cat is a pet too many. But she is winding me up at the moment!

katemiddletonsnudeheels · 30/06/2016 22:46

I have three cats in a one bed flat Shock

I had two elderly gentlemen but one died and I wanted just one, but ended up with two long haired kittens who the CPL were struggling to rehome because they were long haired and black and white. (I think they are beautiful, actually, but they do shed a lot of fur.)

I lived in a three bed house with a garden when I had them and I wouldn't have got them if I'd known I was moving, but they have adapted well, are happy, loved and well cared for. Have attached obligatory photo of the one currently lying next to me!

Oh I love Devons and Oriental cats!

My great aunt had 2 Siamese cats who were walked on leads with her Scottie. It was amazing.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 01/07/2016 03:35

And yours, Kate Wink

Gabilan · 01/07/2016 08:20

Kate funnily enough when I asked the CPL for one cat they said I could have two, or none. Still, they get on and there's plenty of room for them so they're no more hassle than one. The furry little sods.

7 cats, 5 dogs, parrot and various waifs and strays coming and going. Have had monkeys, owls, a peacock, sugar gliders and pigeons so far this year. Live abroad and have a big house and domestic help but the relocation amount is up to about £30k so now stuck in the middle East I'm the hope some will die of old age!

musicposy · 01/07/2016 09:48

Mine's half Siamese, though you wouldn't know by looks.

He's very vocal! He demands with a loud and persistent meowling which you can't ignore - I forget that other cats just meow! He can leap on the wardrobe from the floor, and can leap onto the house roof from any upstairs window. He terrifies me but is still fit, active, and doing this at 11. He's very much DD's cat and is super affectionate to her but treats the rest of us like servants.

He has so much character I'd go for another oriental in the future.

When I was married I had two cats and quite content until my friend persuaded me to rescue a third one (mother had abandoned them; my friend took the remaining two from the litter). A year later I was divorced with three cats and said friend piped up 'Ooh you know, a guy won't date a woman with more than two cats'.

Yeah, thanks for cock-blocking me, bezzie Hmm Grin

I have two cats. Both are accidental pets, one abused and dumped, the other one found lost as a kitten, we never found the owner.
This morning I also had a dead bird and one living mouse. Both disposed of (the mouse was trapped and released in the field behind our house where she probably came from with a warning she should avoid our house).
DD wants a dog but we have no time for a dog, both working full time. It wouldn't be fair on a social animal. Cats are better because they take care of themselves and get their cuddles when we get home.

Clandestino · 02/07/2016 18:40

These are my two gangsters. Totally unrelated. The fluffy chubster is totally unpredictable and we are probably the only ones who can handle her. She bit a vet once as he was treating her sore paw. My boy is placid and shy but relentless with any cat trying to get into his territory.

I agree with the "as many as you can comfortably care for" type rules.

We have two horses (used to be 4) at home, three dogs, two cats and ten hens. There are three of us in a country small holding with a few acres. Everything is from a rescue apart from the horses.

CMOTDibbler · 02/07/2016 18:43

3 cats, 2 dogs, 3 chickens here. Doesn't seem too much

nooka · 02/07/2016 19:05

We have a dog and two cats. I would quite like to get another cat (because neither of our current cats like to be cuddled and dd and I would like a bagpuss) however our city doesn't allow anyone to have more than two dogs or two cats within city limits.

dd looked after a friends pets for a while recently. They had two cats and lots of smaller animals (rabbits and hamsters) and their house although clean was very smelly. Now they have a puppy too and although he is loved I think it's too many for them to to look after properly.

OldManJenkins · 02/07/2016 19:16

I have 8 cats

bertsdinner · 02/07/2016 19:22

One cat, though I'm considering another. I once had 3 cats but think I wouldn't go above 2 now.

notquiteruralbliss · 02/07/2016 19:22

I'm not sure there is a limit. One person's too many is another's not enough.

greatscott81 · 02/07/2016 19:25

It depends on the size of your house. I have one dog in a large 3 bed house and could easily house another. At the end of the day, if you're happy with your animals, and they're well looked after, what does it matter?

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 02/07/2016 20:00

Any is too many. Not an animal fan.

Whinyleonard · 03/07/2016 05:25

Definitely can used why you would have wanted to comment on this thread.

FoxyLoxy123 · 03/07/2016 08:04

Soon to be three dogs here (in a two bed semi). We live quite rurally. Two dogs are medium-large size and do moult and the other is a small breed who is hypoallergenic and doesn't shed. I hate hair so there are always lint rollers by the front door etc but it brushes off in 10 seconds so that's fine by me.

The only room we have carpet in is the bedroom so it's super easy to sweep up any hair. I would like chickens or horses again at some point but I never plan to have any more house pets, I love dogs. Two of mine are entering senior dog territory which is why I wanted a younger one. I would not want a puppy and young children, so having the puppy before potential children!

FoxyLoxy123 · 03/07/2016 08:14

Take up barely any space! To be fair most houses on our road are three beds but the people who used to own ours moved the bathroom upstairs and the kitchen double the size which made it a two bed. It is quite spacious for a 2 bed.

Always think it's funny how people can be major animal people or not. My idea of a perfect weekend involves a major proportion of it at home with the dogs. It's what keeps me going. Not a fan of going out for days out etc all the time, get sick of it. I also don't like week long holidays because I miss the dogs. I'm cheap and easy to please Grin

Had 2 dogs and a bird. That was more than enough. Now 1 dog and a bird. Dog1 was 14 and very much my dog, missing her terribly Sad but I couldn't have anymore dogs. Dog2 has been taken in from an ill relative who has now passed away. He has severe health issues and dh wouldn't want to rehome as he promised we'd take care of him. So here he stays. Said to dh no more animals in this house, which he agrees. Bird will live for another 15 years or so, dog2 potentially another 5. I'd like a break and a clean house. It's like having 2 more dc...
