To have left my dad in hospital on his own ?

I worked an almost full day busy day today, so did my husband.

My dad is 85 and has broke his hip today from a fall at home. We hung around 3 hours after work time ended til half ten, he's had a pain blocker jab and an op is imminent tomorrow or Monday.

AIBU to have left him there for the night and worry more about it tomorrow? He's sleeping mainly now.

No - you need to look after yourselves to help look after him

I dont think family were allowed to hang about the wards anyway you need some kip go to bed you can phone in the morning your poor dad though, now go to bed

It was very very worrying watching him Throw up with the pain. I'm also worried re his age and an op ( tho he isn't friail by any means )

He was still in assessment when we left but I guess he will be on a ward by now or soon.

You can't stay in a hospital 24/7 and nor would you want to, either. That's not being unreasonable. That's just life, plus you're not going to be any good to your dad if you're over tired. You need all the strength you can get, both physically and mentally, and. Don't forget you were there for 3 hours. Not 3 minutes.
Please don't feel guilty He's in the best place.

God no. A sleep deprived daughter will be no help to him tomorrow.

Same thing happened to my Dad. We left him to sleep and get some ourselves. Best thing for everyone.

Isn't he likely to need you around more after the op, rather than now? This may be a long haul, you have to get rest.

I think I would have tried to have stayed until he was settled on a ward, but I appreciate this isn't always possible / practical. I hope your dad makes a good recovery, 85 is relatively young nowadays.

He is not alone! He has nurses and HCAs looking after him.

As for the op, I know a lady who had one at 99 and lived till 103!

Now they tend to use spinal and sedation rather than GA, so quicker recovery. Loads of pain relief post op, to enable them to be up and about as quickly as possible, so not such a long haul not, whatever age!
