I know there's loads of threads and I apologize. Please don't post if you are sick of them.

But surely leave voters cant wake up pleased when they have sat in front of the telly and heard the news channels today?

Grin I thought that beyond! those I know who voted leave are either in their 50's-60's, good pensions, set for a comfy retirement, money in the bank...or the ones I see on tv, the younger ones waving union jack's, not a fucking clue what they've done.

OP posts:
BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 25/06/2016 11:17

Yep and i have the delight of knowing both! Grin

The teacher in my dcs school were speechless, the amount of eu funding we've had, its honestly ridiculous.

I know that democracy = votes for all, but i am so upset and disappointed that such an important decision has been made by people who have no clue what they are doing.

Today 11:10 GertrudeBelle

A parliamentary petition has been created calling for a second referendum. As I type, it already has 1,083,209 signatures and the number is growing rapidly so it will have to be taken seriously.

I would urge everyone who is concerned about the consequences of yesterday's result to sign it. It only takes a minute. Get your friends and family to sign too.

Link here:

There's also a map showing the location of the signatories. There are some key Remain territories which don't seem to have picked this up - particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please spread the word. Map here:

Scotland's busy. Wink

ssd · 25/06/2016 11:26

I'm in Scotland and I genuinely dont know anyone who voted to leave here, the leave voters I know are in England.

even my neighbour, who is elderly, well off and secure, is very scared of the future

OP posts:
throwingpebbles · 25/06/2016 11:27

The Scots and NI won't need to sign the petition. They can seek another referendum/ a referendum and vote to leave the UK and stay in the EU

GertrudeBelle · 25/06/2016 11:27

Ah go on, Fledgling, it'll only take a minute as you draw up your other plans

FledglingFridge · 25/06/2016 11:28

Must introduce you to my MIL. She's one of the rare creatures who actually voted to get rid of 'the brown people'. Those would be the brown people who work and pay tax to pay her benefits.

GertrudeBelle · 25/06/2016 11:29

I understand about the alternative approach but

(a) there are no guarantees for either route - why not hedge your bets?; and

(b) there must be some Scottish and N. Irish who would prefer to remain part of the U.K. And the EU?

Theonslostbits · 25/06/2016 11:30

No im not worried at all or thinking wtaf!

I would like to see the european union disintigrate completely, leaving us all to be independant countries. Things will take a while to restructure obviously. Im hoping other european countries decide to leave too. People are hysterical, it is ridiculous!

FledglingFridge · 25/06/2016 11:31

I've signed. I love the UK, but it's shit like this that made me a YES voter. I'm not a nationalist.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 25/06/2016 11:32

There are a lot of "regret leave" voters sharing today aren't there? Or, even worse "oh, I didn't think we would actually leave" Hmm

On behalf of myself and my children, I would like to say to them: "Thanks a lot, you Utter Utter Twats".

There.

JudyCoolibar · 25/06/2016 11:33

Those people who think they've got their country back are doomed to disappointment, unless to them having their country back means going back to post-war deprivation. If they think it means no immigration, they will be stunned to discover precisely the same number of refugees and non-EU immigrants appearing, and even more stunned when we are forced to sign up to a trade agreement guaranteeing free movement for EU citizens like the one that Norway has. And they're going to be particularly disappointed to discover those NHS queues that Farage and his friends said would disappear are still firmly in place and even longer than before.

Mymakeup72 · 25/06/2016 11:34

The idea of a new vote is not as absurd as it sounds especially if we hit recession quickly. I have read various reports on this from economists today.

Some people won't have a clue what is going on, how it will affect them and where we go from here. They never did. A lot of people go through life like this though. Day to day, week to week. Zero planning ahead. Unfortunately for every relatively educated voter who has taken the time to read the various arguments properly rather than go for the headline in the Paper, there will be lots who aren't or haven't bothered. Without proper knowledge you have nothing to go on and this is the fault of the leaders of both sides. Cameron should not have led the in campaign. He is unpopular after already messing things up since they got back in. Corbyn was weak too. He is a leader he needs to lead. The out campaign had more interesting characters and good speakers so they had an edge as it's usually easier to convince someone to change the status quo rather than defend a position.

However ultimately it is the Tory government that have caused this by promising a referendum to keep their right wing lot happy. If you voted for these then maybe next time you may think twice.

saoirse31 · 25/06/2016 11:37

You really don't get democracy do you? I don't like the results, oh quick, let's have another vote. I'd suggest you'd achieve more if rather than sounding like patronising twats you actually looked at the things leave voters are concerned about, and maybe looked at addressing these. But then, that would require an ability to actually listen as opposed to make assumptions about the motives of 17 m people based on the media, social media and some personal anecdotes.

emeraldlakes · 25/06/2016 11:38

vote to leave the UK and stay in the EU

Perhaps. It seems Spain will likely veto Scotland joining as a single entity.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 25/06/2016 11:41

Lol at assumptions (though admittedly i dont know 17m people). I live on a council estate in a deprived area, i'm not sat in an ivory tower making random guesses what the proles think.

PaintedDrivesAndPolishedGrass · 25/06/2016 11:46

Here you go,
Cameron resigned
The pound fell and then rose past Feb levels. The FTSE lost a lot of ground but after the pound rallied it closed on a weekly high.
Obama changed his mind and said we would still be special friends
The head of the EU Commission said the UK would still be a close partner
A bank said they will relocate 2k staff and then they changed their mind.
CBI said British business was resilient and would adapt
Several countries outside of EU want to begin bi-lateral trade talks with UK.
Oh and several News reports where guilty of compounding stereotypes.

will a lot of the leave voters be watching the news and wondering WTAF they've done?
PaintedDrivesAndPolishedGrass · 25/06/2016 11:49

Wasn't sure it would copy over Smile

TheHiphopopotamus · 25/06/2016 11:50

Yes, I know of at least 3 people who just wandered into the polling station and didn't even know where they where! They only voted Out because they can't actually read and thought they were signing their name when they crossed the Out box. And they were in the 60's so they aren't even going to be alive much longer to see the fallout from their vote!

The people who didn't vote the same way as me are so stupid. Next time, we should make sure in some way that all that the thickos don't get to vote at all, maybe by only letting people who live in London vote.

kirinm · 25/06/2016 11:52

Prepared by a UKIP MEP.

Doesn't mention Moody's down grading or the fact that the pound is STILL down and only recovered slightly because the BoE will provide £250 billion to steady the markets.

MrEBear · 25/06/2016 11:52

There is far too much trade between Scotland and England for Scotland to become independent especially without the "free trade" we would have with both in the EU.

Honestly think we need the dust to settle before any more referendums. Scotland needs a bit of stability rather than the constant uncertainty these things bring. 2 in 2 years and talk of a third is nuts.

GertrudeBelle · 25/06/2016 11:55

Saoirse - I have no problem with (or lack of understanding of) democracy.

I do have a problem with a significant proportion of the electorate being conned into voting Leave by the (now admitted) lies of Nigel Farage and other campaigners.

In any other legal context, the vote would be rescinded.

echt · 25/06/2016 11:57

And they were in the 60's so they aren't even going to be alive much longer to see the fallout from their vote!

Fuck off, Hiphop, Just fuck off. I assume you;'re going to die before you get, er... old.

emeraldlakes · 25/06/2016 11:59

Not to mention PaintedDrivesAndPolishedGrass Germany, Canada and USA have all stated they want special trade deals with Britain.
