To feel very sad about the results

DesignedForLife · 24/06/2016 07:00

That's all. Sad and worried about what will happen. Feels like hate, racism and fear have won :(

OP posts:
Marynary · 24/06/2016 08:12

I feel sad and worried. My children and most of their classmates (teenagers too young to vote) are devastated. I thought that common sense would prevail but obviously not.

Stripyhoglets · 24/06/2016 08:14

I am worried about the result. Doesn't matter why people voted out as it's still going to shatter the economy.

HazelBite · 24/06/2016 08:17

Overnight DH's pension fund has halved, (he is 60 and self employed) Ds's girlfriend got her redundancy notice by email this morning (they were warned) she works in the financial sector in the city, this is just the start of it.
I am gutted I am 65 at the end of the year and planned to retire, will I be able to afford to?
Who knows?

LaurieMarlow · 24/06/2016 08:19

Devastating result, but I would say delusion won rather than racism for example. Feel
very sorry for the young people of UK. They don't deserve to have their future gambled with like this.

Also, the blame lies with David Cameron (as well as those who didn't vote) rather than the Brexit voters who are only executing their democratic rights.

Sherlocked1606 · 24/06/2016 08:22

Scotland votes to remain. We are being dragged out of the EU against our will. This is not want a country voted for. Sad

I don't think all leave voters are racist. However the leave campaign has said some incredibly racist and xenophobic things.

What happens now is anyone's guess. Indeyref2 per chance?

LittleWingSoul · 24/06/2016 08:23

YABU

Ironically on the first day I've woken up to a blue sky in weeks I feel like a dark cloud has passed over our fair isle.

I hope that despite my sense of foreboding now that I'm proved wrong. Not holding my breath.

A very dark day indeed.

LittleWingSoul · 24/06/2016 08:24

Sorry YANBU!

saffronwblue · 24/06/2016 08:24

I feel sad (from Australia) when I think of the horror of the 2 world wars originating in Europe and of the hope and idealism in the founding of the eu. Our stock exchange also lost $50billion today thanks.

Dawndonnaagain · 24/06/2016 08:27

Every cloud, Cameron's resignation...

MrsBobDylan · 24/06/2016 08:30

I feel like we forgot the world wars and the principal of why the EU was formed.

The 350m was all based on nothing too...it conveniently forgot to factor in the amount we get back from the EU in the form of subsidy.

The advert for leave was propaganda based on daily mail emotion and not facts.

Well, look on the brightside, good old Boris has a chance at the leadership now, which is what this was all about wasn't it?

ThisPanCanCan · 24/06/2016 08:39

Boris, Trump and no EU membership. Crumbs!

HopeClearwater · 24/06/2016 08:47

based my vote on many things but one is that every month the EU parliament moves to France for 4 days.

You think protesting against that was worth the economic shitstorm that's already started?

DesignedForLife · 24/06/2016 08:50

To be clear, I do not think all who voted leave are racist. I know people who voted out who are not racists. However I do think that many were moved to vote by xenophobic motivations, sourced from tabloid trash and lies spouted by some of the leave campaign. That to me is sad.

This poster said it best:

  • don't think all Brexiters are racist. There are many reasons why people voted leave. But two things are apparent from the stats:
  1. Immigration and xenophobia swung the campaign in favour of leave.
  2. We're about to experience economic free fall.
  3. A certain kind of Brexit voter thinks that this win validates their racist xenophobic views and both sides will have to think about how this is addressed.*
OP posts:
Oblomov16 · 24/06/2016 08:53

Leave isn't racism.
It is a big shock. No one really expected this result.

The pound has fallen dramatically. But it will re-balance.
Cameron resigned. Article 50 won't start, immediately, although Cameron had said it would.
It's unsettling. But things will stabilise.

rainbowpony · 24/06/2016 08:55

Racism didn't win. The majority one. Just look at the breakdown of voters by demographic - age, education etc. It informs you who has steered this ludicrous outcome. Yes, it's democracy, but it tells me I'm living amongst a majority of people I squarely don't identify with.

peachpudding · 24/06/2016 09:03

The op really has a very narrow minded view. Most of the hate and fear has come from the remain side which seemed to be trying to force undemocratic rule on us.

Brexit will be an open and liberating experience. My vote to leave was a positive one in favour of immigration, as decided by a democratically elected British government.

"Don't panic Mr Mannering, beer, cigarettes, GO magazine, SKY Sports are still ok"

TheFairyCaravan · 24/06/2016 09:06

I'm gutted. Our poor children. Sad

My two (19&21) voted Remain. DS1 is in Canada with the army, I've sent him a message to let him know.. He'll be angry.

They've just said on GMB that Britain is no longer the 5th largest economy. Shock

ThisPanCanCan · 24/06/2016 09:08

I feel sad. For all my adult life I could consider myself as a European and liked that a lot. That ends shortly, the country moves to the right wing and Scotland leaves the UK. Bollocks Tories and fuck-face Farage.

pinocchiosnose · 24/06/2016 09:10

I voted to remain and whilst disappointed in the outcome I am now quite interested to see what happens. Slightly apprehensive about the ramifications for Northern Ireland though.

ThisPanCanCan · 24/06/2016 09:11

Fwiw I don't think all Leavers are racist at all. But the ref showed a deep seated xenophobia in the Brits that is just a very short step from racism. And of course a lot of Leavers are just plain racist bigots.

Cosmiccreepers203 · 24/06/2016 09:26

Thanks Designed. That was me. Never been quoted on a thread (blushes). I usually kill threads.

JoffreyBaratheon · 24/06/2016 09:28

I don't know anyone who voted Leave, so have no idea what's going through their heads. I suspect a lot of them are confused re 'immigration' and have voted Leave not understanding that it has no effect on anyone coming here from outside Europe. (Which let's face it, are what the Leave campaign really cared about or we wouldn't have had that horrendous, racist picture of a long stream of refugees - people we should feel only compassion for but they managed toimply were all trying to steal your jobs and women).

FuckOffJeffrey · 24/06/2016 10:02

I'm beyond gutted about this. I can't even explain just now. It's just like the feeling I had when the inde ref results came in. It feels like someone has died.

The only person I have spoken to that said they voted leave is my brother. He is anti immigration to the point he actually said that we need a Donald Trump in this country. He actually said that with a stright face. Not that I think all leave voters are like him. He's a total muppet.

English remain votes should all move to Scotland. We can go for inde ref 2 and stay in The EU. I have seen quite a few die hard No voters on Facebook this morning saying they would vote Yes now if there was another inde ref.

todayitstarts · 24/06/2016 10:49

Seriously, Remainers should come to Scotland. We have plenty of room and we are a friendly bunch (well maybe not so much today).
