I'm feeling pretty shocked and scared right now.

Why did you vote for brexit?

Yes yes yes Foggybottom!!

JoffreyBaratheon · 24/06/2016 09:53

Mark your protest in a General Election. Get rid of the Tories - they're the ones who've sold you.

This.

And also how many of those Leave votes were simple, mid term protest votes? I think there will be a few Vote Leave folks who will have woken up today, look across at what they just got into bed with, and realise it was the worst one night stand of their lives. But what they've done is irreversible. ;o)

OutsiderInTheGarden · 24/06/2016 09:54

Mango crop picking really is NOT a saturday job for 14-18 yr olds. Confused

HanYOLO · 24/06/2016 09:55

still, no-one has offered a positive reason about the actual positive change they hope to see

camaleon · 24/06/2016 09:55

People who voted to leave based on the 'sovereignty' of this country seem to forget that the UK is a member of the United Nations Security Council, a nuclear power with collective responsibilities as a world leader. If they are to decide the future based only on their national interest, they should also give up the influence they have worldwide deciding other countries destinies in an institution that (contrary to the EU) is totally undemocratic and incredibly powerful.

It has been shameful to witness a 'me/me' debate from a country that claims to look after the peace and security of everybody worldwide (and the country that built Europe with great cost based on ideals)

milkyface · 24/06/2016 09:55

Mango crop picking really is NOT a saturday job for 14-18 yr olds.

Excuse my ignorance - why?

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 09:56

*We don't have contingency plans, interviews for higher paid jobs at a moments notice & an upcoming holiday.

We're already at rock bottom.

But you know, that's not a result of the EU. It's a consequence of neo-liberal ideology, globalisation, and the fluidity & mobility of international capital.*

I didn't suggest it was as a result of the EU though Foggy.

Remainers, like the Labour party who list the last election look down there noses and snear at those who don't agree with them. Kelp smearing and keep losing!

So basically you cut off your nose to spite your face? Except you didn't just cut off your nose, you also shat in your bed, quit your job and set your house on fire. And you did it to everyone else in the country too.

Julius02 · 24/06/2016 09:58

I know many people over 50 who voted to remain. None of us took part in exit polls so all the figures being bandied about about how people voted by age are only based on a sample - there was nothing on the ballot paper that asked me how old I was.

I voted to remain, but several of my neighbours, much younger than me, voted to leave. They are fed up with not being able to get their children into a local school, with not being able to get doctors appointments, and with pressure on services. Some may argue that it is not like this, but where I live, it absolutely is, and many people are disillusioned and were worried about it continuing to get worse.

The campaign has been disgraceful and divisive on both sides and I hope we can now just look to the future and move on.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 09:58

Well it certainly was for my generation, and my mum's, and my granny's, ad infinatum...

BillSykes
OK prices go up plus imports are also more expensive because the £ is weak. Rising prices equal inflation. Inflation is controlled by the BoE raising interest rates. Great for mortgage free pensioner with cash in the bank but not so good for people with mortgages or trying to get on the housing ladder.

peachpudding · 24/06/2016 10:01

OMG does Brexit mean we won't have mangos? Well can I change my vote then?

ample · 24/06/2016 10:02

A lot of folks seem to have located the shiny red panic button.

FoggyBottom · 24/06/2016 10:02

Er, yes, I can read that - but you've made that statement in the context of a thread asking people why they voted Leave.

I understand why the "white working class" (as a category for convenience of discussion) are in protest against the circumstances in which they live: they've taken the brunt of the austerity agenda.

My point is that I think anyone voting Leave in response to the austerity agenda set by our national Government has made a category error. They've protested in the wrong poll.

And it will bite them in the bum.

ExitPursuedByBear · 24/06/2016 10:02

How about all the remainers move to Scotland and NI, become independent and rejoin the EU.

Sorted

derxa · 24/06/2016 10:05

I resent all this ageist shite. I'm nearer 60 than 50 and voted remain. I didn't vote for economic reasons. I voted remain to keep a strong political alliance with other European countries- for peace in Europe.

smallfox1980 · 24/06/2016 10:07

Exit...

How bout London cuts its self off from the rest of the country and rejoins the EU as a city state.

#LEXIT

I voted remain but I do think a lot of people voted leave for:

£300 (ish) million pounds a week that Farage indicated will go into the NHS (no it won't it will go back to the EU to keep trade deals (or back into our deficit)).

Control over immigration (does not necessarily make you a racist) - however, we will still have immigration and will probably still have free movement of people in EU so we can keep our trade deals (but again we will have no say in EU now as we are on outside).

The fact that all the ills of the country have been blamed on the EU and not the austerity cuts that the govt have been making (and will carry on making as conservative govt will be guaranteed, especially now Scotland will probably have another ref to split from us).

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 10:09

I think most labour areas had a leave majority tbh.

It wasn't a party split, it was more like a class split tbh.

shovetheholly · 24/06/2016 10:10

foggy well said.

OutsiderInTheGarden · 24/06/2016 10:11

Mango it's not your grandparents generation though, is it? If you honestly believe that our agricultural industry can be serviced by teenagers in half term then I invite you to come down here to Cornwall and show everyone how they're doing it wrong. What a ridiculous thing to say.
