About kids out playing at this time of night?

I'm aware that this is partially my issue (1yo teething horribly and taking an age to settle, warm house so windows have to be open in order to breathe) but AIBU to think that next doors kids (5&7) shouldn't be out playing and screeching at this time of night on a school night?! They often stay out until 9, even 10pm!

YABU OP. Kids play out till dusk in the summer round here.

Screeching and making a racket's not called for though. YWNBU to ask them to keep it down a bit.

incywinci · 23/06/2016 20:58

Yabu. My DD (3) naps for 2-3 hours in her afternoon and isn't ready for bed until 10pm.

Honeyandfizz · 23/06/2016 20:58

Screeching yanbu. Playing outside yabu. Why shouldn't they be able to enjoy their garden? Mine were outside until 9.30pm last night (aged 12 & 11), I did warn them no loud voices. After a winter of miserable weather and a not much better summer I want them to enjoy the garden as much as they can.

EvansAndThePrince · 23/06/2016 21:00

I can agree on the iPads point, definitely.

Honey but at 5&7? It's just so little, particularly for the 5yo!

But op they aren't your dc. I agree the screaming is very annoying but why shouldn't they enjoy their garden?

MarcelineTheVampire · 23/06/2016 21:02

YANBU I have a baby that doesn't sleep as it is without a load of 5 year olds literally stood outside screaming.

JUST GO TO BED, all of the children just go to sleep...please.

I would like to disclose that I may be sensitive for to the fact that I haven't slept in 6 months.

Callwaiting · 23/06/2016 21:03

YANBU that it's quite late to be out making a noise but you're YABU judging when they should be in bed!
Mine have just gone to bed (10 and 8) but I do make mine come in from the garden before 8 because of the neighbours. They've been playing scrabble since.....

2coldinscotland · 23/06/2016 21:04

on nice weather nights I let my 8 year old out later, till 8.45. It such a long winter it's good to see them outside and making the most of the daylight. A quick shower then bed. He is tired next morning but it might rain next day so earlier bedtime. They aren't noisy though. It's too bad your neighbours are.

In principle I would let them outdoor until after 8 but my boys have no such thing as quiet voices and most of my neighbours are over 80 and lovely and I genuinely don't want to piss them off!
Same in the morning- I don't let them play out before 8 ish

They shouldn't be screaming OP no.

But you will find for some parents that once the lighter evenings come in lots of them find it really hard to get they're DC to settle for bed at they're usual time even with black out blinds, the heat and the clocks changing really don't help when it comes to bedtimes.

HermioneJeanGranger · 23/06/2016 21:16

It's only late if they're up at 5/6am, though.

Lots of little children don't have to be anywhere particularly early. Most primaries don't start until 9am and lots of pre-schoolers are home all day, so they wouldn't be up until 8am or later.

GnomeDePlume · 23/06/2016 21:23

We always felt slightly guilty when our DCs (5, 6 and 9) would be out playing in the garden until 9pm when we could hear next door's children of similar age screaming their heads off with a 7pm bed time.

Mind, the world seems inconsiderate just for breathing when babies wont settle.

Wow some English dc go to bed weirdly early. Mine are 7 and 9 rarely asleep til 9. Wonder for whose benefit this lights out at 7pm thing is for ....

RiverTam · 23/06/2016 21:32

DD is still awake. Got no bloody 'off' button, that child.

I do leave loads of time in the morning, over an hour and a half often, but I like to get us up slowly and have a leisurely breakfast, plus that's when she does her reading and homework (not that she gets much). So I start getting her up at 7. But she seems to do OK on 10ish hours sleep, and she catches up at the weekend.

GnomeDePlume · 23/06/2016 21:35

Not just the English KERALA1, when we lived abroad our Dutch neighbours all put their children to bed very early. We British were the late stopouts.

GabsAlot · 23/06/2016 22:03

5 year olds aout playing still? dont they have school tomrrow

i understand if its the holidays but bit extreme

KERALA1 · 23/06/2016 23:20

We host Spanish and Italian girls who were uniformly baffled that our dc were not having dinner with us around 8 ish. Dc were younger then too around 5/6. They said bedtime for them at same age 10 ish.

beetroot2 · 23/06/2016 23:25

Parents should bring their kids in from their gardens at 7? Grin

Atenco · 24/06/2016 04:11

Oh gosh, I live on the other side of the world now, but now I am nostalgic for the sound of children playing out late on the long days of summer.
