To think my mother laughing at my son's private parts is extremely inappropriate

I was on holiday with my 68 year old mother last week. One evening whilst changing my three year old son's nappy she walked over, pointed at his bits, laughed and said 'it's like a penis only smaller'

I yelled at her and told her it was very inappropriate and isn't at all funny as it will give him a complex and it's cruel and unkind.

She says he doesn't understand but I don't care. I don't think you should do this to a child.

I was then criticised for being miserable with no sense of humour and a bitch. Am I being unreasonable?

That pretty much sums it up PerspicaciaTick. But what's NC?

I deffo wasn't trying to confuse anyone, i'm so sorry x

In this contact NC is name change.
Although when it comes to toxic parents it can also mean no contact.

Datedthedevil · 23/06/2016 01:32

Thank you for explaining that :)
I'd love no contact too, my life would be soooooo much easier.

She sounds thick

KittyLaRoux · 23/06/2016 07:57

Ok then.......

CaptainCrunch · 23/06/2016 07:57

Nappy? Time you were potty training him if he's 3 years old op, whatever your name is.

WTF?

Nappies on a 3 year old is perfectly normal.

We have a winner!

BoGrainger · 23/06/2016 08:06

Wouldn't you just give your mum a WTAF type look instead of yelling? That would've upset your ds more I would have thought.

CaptainCrunch · 23/06/2016 08:08

Thanks WellErr Grin glad someone got the joke on this ridiculous thread.

YouAreMySweetestDownfall · 23/06/2016 08:09

Not exactly a yelling situation Hmm
I wouldn't be happy if my Mum made a comment like that but I wouldn't make a big deal of it.

IceMountain · 23/06/2016 08:11

I don't understand why people have to be rude or poke fun.

Just ignore and don't post and then the thread will just disappear...

DawnMumsnet · 23/06/2016 08:31

Hi all, looks like the OP's got a bit mixed up with her usernames on this thread. We've nipped in and sorted things now so all her posts are under her Datedthedevil username.

OP - if you post again on here, make sure that's the one you use!

We have no reason to think there's anything dodgy going on here.

Believeitornot · 23/06/2016 08:36

YANBU

However I wouldn't have shouted in front of your son. I'd have had a quiet word later.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 23/06/2016 08:38

WTAF? I make jokes like this all the time about my babies. It's just a joke! Your baby is too small to understand it!

OldFarticus · 23/06/2016 08:42

I think you have overreated a little tbh. My DSis has made jokes about ny DN's penis before ("it's only small - takes after his dad"). Only mildly inappropriate and not meant with malice - I still think she is a great mum.

Strange thing to say, but I don't see why it would give your child a complex. I think I'd have laughed at her and asked what she thought it was if it wasn't a penis.

blueskyinmarch · 23/06/2016 08:54

Sounds like she was making a joke. I doubt any 3 year old is going to get a complex from what she said. I think you are overreacting.

ok...ok... I'll come clean. My real name is CarnalBumHotter

YANBU. I hate 'jokes' like this one (seriously, how is it rven funny? Is it because if the word 'penis'? FFS). I think people saying he can't understand yet have missed the point; you don't know for certain when a child will start to understand, and they're all different, so suddenly changing your behaviour later on is not going to cut it. I think when it comes to what we say to children, and in front of them, we start as we mean to go on. I would want to nip this in the bud and I personally wouldn't give a flying one what she thought of my sense of humour. Your child is way more important than that.
