Fanny is a very naughty word in Scotland,

That loads of people hate the expression 'little man' (guilty)!

That there are other toddlers out there that refuse to go to bed and actually for many parents there's fuck all you can do but ride it out.

Mumsnetters can offer a wealth of experience, advice and hand holding and it can make a massive difference in your life.

And loads more things but wanted to keep it lighthearted. How about you?

That bonny means fat in some regions (I always thought it meant lovely/attractive/healthy looking).

That there is an issue with buses and disabled/pushchair spaces. Round here there is a large space saying designated priority for a wheelchair and a large space designated priority for prams and people with heavy shopping. I've never known there to be any issue.

MrsJayy · 22/06/2016 10:29

Lots of posters feel sad for other children its really weird they feel sad because another parent doesnt parent like them.

WorraLiberty · 22/06/2016 10:31

Oh yes, apparently "You're looking well" also means "You're look fat" Confused

WorraLiberty · 22/06/2016 10:31

*You

HerRoyalFattyness · 22/06/2016 10:33

That some people still believe Michael Jackson was innocent Hmm

DuckAndPancakes · 22/06/2016 10:36

That social services should be called for everything.

MrsJayy · 22/06/2016 10:37

I had to hide the MJ thread last night

Babysafari · 22/06/2016 10:38

That you should never make your child eat anything, ever, or its abuse and they'll grow up with food problems.

That the police routinely log things.

I have learned that nobody showers most days, washes hair every other day and changes sheets weekly. Oh no, that's just me. Everybody else either showers fortnightly, does no-poo and changes sheets annually or does all of the above twice daily.

Waltermittythesequel · 22/06/2016 10:39

That disagreeing with an OP means you have a perfect life Hmm

MargaretCavendish · 22/06/2016 10:40

That a significant proportion of the population must live in a state of constant confusion because they can't spot obvious jokes unless they are labelled LIGHTHEARTED

ppeatfruit · 22/06/2016 10:42

That a 4 year old should behave like an adult and a 14 year old should be treated like a 4 yr old.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/06/2016 10:48

And a 20 YO is still a child and asking them to contribute a small percentage of their wages towards their keep is exploitation. Nor is it reasonable to expect them to sort out any aspect of their own lives themselves (apply for jobs, arrange travel, university stuff etc).

ghostspirit · 22/06/2016 10:51

that you must do as MN tells you.

my mother used to call me fanny anne. was she calling me a cunt?

BarbaraofSeville · 22/06/2016 11:00

Going back to the OP.

When you say 'Fanny is a very naughty word in Scotland', is that expression not widely used or do some people equate it to female genitalia in different ways?

Cunt is considered nasty/insulting/definitely not to be used in polite company but I always thought of fanny as the female equivalent of willy so a bit light hearted, almost what you might hear children using to describe their bits without using correct terms?

DJBaggieSmalls · 22/06/2016 11:02

That I need a Roomba.

ppeatfruit · 22/06/2016 11:03

Yes Barbaro Also most children must be driven everywhere. It's neglect to expect an 11 yr. old to get a bus .

wigglesrock · 22/06/2016 11:05

That nail varnish really does kill a verruca
Some people have separate towels for different family members

steppemum · 22/06/2016 11:06

wiggles - I have learnt that some families all share the same towel, instead of having your own!

origamiwarrior · 22/06/2016 11:06

More of one for 'what have you learnt on Mumsnet that changed your life' but the video of how to dry your fringe so it always hangs perfectly has been a gamechanger for me. (www.salihughesbeauty.com/videos/video-fringes/

MrsJayy · 22/06/2016 11:08

The adult children thing pisses me off aww but they are only 20 what do you expect they have plenty of time to be an adult blah blah gives me the frothy rage

MrsJayy · 22/06/2016 11:11

Oh oh the bus nooo you cant send a 16yrold on a bus no you go collect them

YouAreMySweetestDownfall · 22/06/2016 11:13

There was a thread about it a while back about the word fanny Barbara and the feeling was that in Scotland it was too rude for a child to use. I was Confused.
