AIBU to be confused by this Macmillan Summer Lights event?

I've been invited to a Macmillan Summer Lights event at the weekend. We have to bring a plate of food/booze and a donation.

I think that the hosts have misinterpreted the brief, which is basically 'invite your friends round for nibbles and drinks in exchange for a donation'.

AIBU to think we're just funding their social event, and say I'd rather just bring a bag of crisps and donate £25 to Macmillan?

I think the hosts are doing it fine - not everyone could afford to host a big gathering, but "bring and share" always works.

A bag of crisps kettlechips please and a £25 donation would be FINE! Smile Have a good time.

That's great, thanks. Glad to hear kettle chips are acceptable.

Are you reciprocating?

If your all the same circle of friends, it's a great excuse for a get together and rather than one person host each time, it's easier to bring a dish.

We did a picnic at the weekend, it was a lovely day and the Charity benefited.

No, it's very much their friends and family, and we won't know anyone else.

I think I've settled on a larger donation and a few big bags of crisps.
