We had our first sleep over, brand new mattresses. Is it my fault for not having a mattress protector or the parent should have told me. Maybe it's a one off. I am just annoyed that it was a really expensive Mattress. What is the Etiquette ?

Thank You.

Its an accident, just deal with it! You can get some upholstery cleaner that should clean it up.

littleshirleybeans · 20/06/2016 19:42

I'm not sure about sleepover etiquette, but maybe a steam cleaner will sort it. I've used one on mine before. Ds2 frequently wets.
I also bought a waterproof mattress cover that encases the whole mattress, it's supposed to stop dust mites too. I got it from Soak and Sleep, online. Got one for every mattress.
I feel your pain.

Floggingmolly · 20/06/2016 19:44

I know you weren't expecting it; but you'll just have to accept it as one of the perils of sleepovers, I'm afraid. Something usually gets trashed.
Please don't embarrass either the child or their parent by mentioning it.

readytorage · 20/06/2016 19:46

It's a bit of kid's pee. Steam clean it and you'll be fine. Don't mention it to the parents unless the child stays regularly and this happens more than once.

Thank you. First thing i did was pour baking soda on the stain. I am dealing with it. This having been our FIRST sleep over i welcome all advice for the next one.

All our beds have protectors on in case of accidents, nose bleeds or puking incidents. Dc's are 9 and 12

Mycraneisfixed · 20/06/2016 19:58

Here too. All our beds and those of family have waterproof mattress protectors. Widely available and on Amazon. Best say nothing but invest in mattress protectors asap.

ConcreteUnderpants · 20/06/2016 20:01

I too have protectors on the mattresses (and pillow protectors - eat your heart out Alex Polizzi!)

Poor child - bet they were mortified. Glad you are being so calm and reasonable about it. Just accept accidents happen , and lesson learned.

Mari50 · 20/06/2016 20:58

I have to say I think this one is on you, mattress protectors should be on a bed as standard anyway and always waterproof on anything a child sleeps on incase of pee/puke etc.
Poor kid, must be awful waking up to that in someone else's house.
